Iran unveils missile silos in war games
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has unveiled underground ballistic missile silos on the first day of the Great Prophet 6 military maneuver. “The silos are a part of the swift reaction unit of the [IRGC] missile brigade; missiles are stored vertically, ready to be launched against pre-determined targets,” Fars News Agency quoted the IRGC spokesman in charge of the drills, General Asghar Qelich-Khani, as saying on Monday. Qelich-Khani said the country has been using domestically-built missile silos for fifteen years and added that the newer generation silos are operational from a launch control center located far from the launch pads. The main advantage of missile silos is the reduced launch time as the weapons need not be moved or aligned prior to launch. On Sunday, Commander of the Aerospace Division of the IRGC Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh short-, medium- and long-range missiles, namely Khalij Fars (Persian Gulf), Sejjil (Baked Clay), Fateh (Conqueror), Qiam (Rising), Shahab-1 and Shahab-2 missiles would be fired during the war games. Hajizadeh stressed that Great Prophet 6 maneuver has completely defensive objectives and will be staged with the message of "peace and friendship." IRGC's naval, air and ground forces staged the Great Prophet 5 military drill in the Persian Gulf in April 2010. MSD/HGH/MMN IRGC Ghadir radar system operational A top Iranian commander says the Ghadir radar system with a range of 1,100 kilometers in radius and a height of 300 kilometers has become operational in the country for the first time. “The Ghadir radar has been designed and manufactured to discover air targets, radar-evading planes, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and satellites at low orbits,” Commander of the Aerospace Division of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Amir Ali Hajizadeh said on Wednesday, Fars news agency reported. After the IRGC unveiled underground ballistic missile silos on the first day of the Great Prophet 6 military maneuvers on Monday, the Ghadir radar system also become operational, the commander went on to say. The Islamic Republic began the Great Prophet 6 drills on Monday. On the first day of the exercises, Iran unveiled underground missile silos and fired Fateh (Conqueror)-110 missiles. On Tuesday, Iran successfully launched 14 surface-to-surface missiles, including Zelzal (Temblor), Shahab-1, Shahab-2 and Shahab-3. Five Shahab missiles, including four medium-range and one long-range, as well as 9 Zelzal missiles were launched. Iran says the Great Prophet 6 maneuver has defensive objectives and will be staged with the message of "peace and friendship." SF/MMA/HRF http://presstv.com/detail/186733.html |

Iran to build new frigates, submarines
Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the country has taken major strides towards constructing new flying boats, including frigates, while planning to manufacture new arms. Iran has also launched the construction of various navigation and control systems and will begin production of the remaining parts in a near future, IRNA quoted Vahidi as saying on Friday. He lauded the first international engagement of the Iranian submarine Yunes and said, “The move was a very significant step in displaying Iran's naval power.” The minister stated that the move reflected a proof that Iran is making great progress towards the achievement of its objectives in the naval field. Early in July, Iran's Yunes submarine, sailing alongside warships of the 14th fleet of the Iranian Navy, returned home following a nearly two-month-long mission in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The deployment of the Iranian military submarine in the Red Sea represented the first such mission by the country's naval forces in far-off waters. In February, two Iranian Navy ships, Khark and Alvand, passed through the Suez Canal, a strategic international shipping route in Egypt, for the first time since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979. In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in essential military equipment and systems. Iran has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence. SF/MB Minister Lauds Armed Forces' High Scientific Capabilities TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar on Sunday praised the high capabilities of the Iranian Armed Forces in supplying their needs indigenously The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are equipped with up-to-date science and knowledge and enjoy high capabilities in these fields," Najjar said in Iran's central city of Arak, adding that the issue has scared the enemies of Iran. The minister praised the indigenous capabilities of the Iranian Armed Forces and stated, "Today we are producing everything in the armed forces by ourselves. Whatever we need on land and in the air, from a single bullet to missiles, aircraft and warships, they are being designed and produced based on the experiences and expertise of local elites and thinkers." He also voiced Iran's preparedness to transfer its capabilities and equipments to the other world countries. Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes. Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country. The Iranian Armed Forces recently test-fired different types of newly-developed missiles and torpedoes and tested a large number of its home-made weapons, tools and equipments, including submarines, military ships, artillery, choppers, aircraft, UAVs and air defense and electronic systems, in a series of massive military drills. Defense analysts and military observers say that Iran's wargames and its advancements in weapons production have proved as a deterrent factor, specially at a time of heightened threats by the US. |

Iran plans to be on the leading edge of defense technology
TEHRAN, Aug. 16 (MNA) – Iranian defense minister has said Iran plans to be among the five top countries, which possess the most advanced defensive technologies. Ahmad Vahidi said that Iran has made great progress in the area of defense over the past few years, thanks to participation of the private sector. And the Defense Ministry in cooperation with the private sector will continue to make further progress in the future, he added. “Today, participating in promoting the defensive capability to counter threats and dispel dangers, is a national and religious duty,” he stated. New projects to begin on Defense Industry Day New defensive projects will start on the Defense Industry Day (Aug. 22), Brigadier General Mahmoud Sajedifar of the Defense Ministry said on Tuesday. Sajedifar also said Iran could only manufacture small arms and weapons before the Islamic Revolution and only the U.S. provided maintenance services for Iran’s military equipment. However, after the Islamic Revolution Iran has gained self-sufficiency in both manufacturing and maintaining military machines. |

Iran pres. unveils key defense products
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has inaugurated three major defense projects in the fields of cruise missiles production and naval equipment manufacturing. The projects -- Qader missile, Bonyan 1 marine engine and the Valfajr domestically-built torpedo system -- were unveiled in the presence of Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and a number of senior commanders of the Armed Forces on Tuesday on the occasion of the national Defense Industries Day, IRNA reported. With a range of 200 kilometers, the Qader missile has been produced in the light of the country's self-sufficiency, deterrence and national strength. The sea-launched cruise missile has high destructive power which can be used against sea targets, including frigates and warships, as well as enemy's coastal targets. Cruising at a low height with high precision in acquiring its targets are among other features of the relatively lightweight Qader missile. Iran's Defense Ministry manufactured Bonyan 1 marine engine to provide the country's naval forces with the strategic product. President Ahmadinejad also inaugurated Valfajr domestically-build torpedo system which has a 220-kilogram warhead. The torpedo and all its subsystems have been manufactured by Iranian experts and can destroy the enemy's heavy vessels. Valfajr is launched from submarine vessels and is equipped with advanced security systems. The torpedo is one of the most complicated marine weapons, which plays a key role in promoting Iran's naval capabilities and the efficiency of vessels and submarines. In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems. In January, Iran's Defense Ministry delivered new cruise missile systems to the Navy, which are capable of spotting and destroying various targets at sea. In early May, the deputy commander of Iran's Air Force, General Mohammad Alavi, said the Islamic Republic has mass-produced and test-fired new cruise missiles, which can be used against naval targets. Iran has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying its defense doctrine is based on deterrence. http://presstv.com/detail/195336.html 'Iran missile technology best in region' Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has described the Islamic Republic's defensive missile capabilities as the best in the region. “In the field of missile [technology], Iran is the best in the region and is among the best [in this regard] in the world,” ISNA quoted Vahid as saying on Wednesday. “Successful production of [the short-, medium- and long-range] missiles Shahab (Meteor) and Sejjil (Baked Clay), Saqeb (Bright) and Sayyad (Hunter), Fateh (Conqueror) and Zelzal (Temblor), Misaq (Covenant) and Ra'ad (Thunder), and Toufan (Storm) and Safar (Journey) are testaments to this success,” he added. Tehran has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying its defense doctrine is based on deterrence. Vahidi stressed that Iran's missile capability is part of the [Iranian] defense industries defensive strategy and doctrine. “Therefore, the defense industries based on the doctrine, aside from localizing missile know-how and technology, through currently producing more than 50 important missile products.. have enhanced the deterrence capability of the Armed Forces in proportion to threats.” HN/HGH |

Iran Equips Air Defense Unit with Large Numbers of Anti-Aircraft Missiles
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Defense Ministry delivered large numbers of home-made mid-range surface-to-air missiles to the country's Air Defense Unit on Sunday in a move to boost Iran's air defense power and capability. During a ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, the Defense Ministry supplied Shalamcheh missiles to Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base. Addressing the ceremony, Vahidi said that Shalamcheh is a Mach 3 mid-range missile that can also be used as a short-range air defense system. The minister added that Shalamcheh is equipped with the latest technology and enjoys a high capability in tracing and intercepting targets and in defusing jamming and electronic warfare. He said the missile traverses a range of 40km, but meantime underlined that the range of the missile would be increased in future versions and generations. In April, Iran successfully test-fired Shalamcheh and another mid-range Hawk missile named 'Shahin' capable of tracing and targeting aggressive aircraft at low and medium altitudes. The two Shahin missiles were launched from a home-made air defense system named 'Mersad'. The Mersad air defense shield is a completely indigenized system developed by the Iranian experts and technicians to promote the country's combat power. The system was deployed in all Army air-defense units to boost the country's air-defense power. The Mersad system equipped with Shahin missiles is capable of tracing and targeting any enemy aircraft at 70 to 150km altitude and is considered as a mid-altitude system among the country's missile shields. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9006130078 Iran says faces no problem in detecting radar-evading systems TEHRAN (ISNA)-An Iranian senior military official said the country faces no problem in detecting radar-evading systems. "We have no problem in detection and location of radar-evading systems. We have designed radars in frequency bands that incase of one radar's failure in detecting the stealth object, another one is able to accomplish it," Mohammad Hossein Shamkhali told ISNA Saturday. He also highlighted Iran's position in building advanced systems and radars in the Middle East and said is ready to export some pieces of the equipment to other countries. "No regional country can provide radars with higher quality than our radars and we are included in the top ten countries with the capability of building radar, surveillance and detection systems," the official continued. The Iranian official said, "Iran plans to construct a missile system possessing higher quality than Russian S-300 system," adding, "Technically, features of Iran's locally-designed system (named S-200) are more advanced and more qualified than features of S-300 missile system and it can be used in both low and high altitudes for all objectives. It will be also useful for targets which could not be hit by S-300." Shamkhali added the new Iranian-built system includes all technical specifications of S-300 missile system and it also enjoys other capabilities as well. "The system we are designing is anti-missile and anti-ballistic missiles." The Iranian official also presented further details on S-200 missile system and said, "We have taken out all lamp systems of defense systems and substituted them with transistor systems which hold more advantages including less harmful radiations and systems' less mass and weight." Iran develops long-range radar system
A senior Iranian commander says the Islamic Republic has succeeded in the design and production of a domestically-manufactured long-range radar system. The advanced system can detect, intercept and destroy aircraft equipped with radar cross-section system (RCS), cruise missile and strategic long-range aircraft, the commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili, said on Wednesday. He added that the cosmos radar, designed by experts of the military base, can detect objects at a range of several thousand kilometers and will join Iran's air-defense in the near future, IRIB reported. The Iranian commander emphasized that the Islamic Republic strongly monitors the slightest possible moves by any country. Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base is in charge of detecting and destroying any aircraft seeking to launch an aggression against the country, Esmaili pointed out. The United States and Israel have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the "option" of a military strike, based on the allegation that Iran's nuclear work may consist of a covert military agenda. Iran says its nuclear program is completely peaceful and within the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, to which it is a signatory. Iranian officials have warned that the Islamic Republic will give a firm and crushing response to any act of aggression by the US and Israel. SF/HRF/MB http://presstv.com/detail/198053.html Iran self-sufficient in missile simulator As the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) is holding major aerial drills, a senior Iranian commander says the country has achieved self-sufficiency in manufacturing missile system simulators. Iranian experts are currently producing many simulators needed for air-defense inside the country, Deputy Director of Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Mohammad Qorbani told IRNA on Sunday. He added that the base has managed to manufacture even old missile systems with far better tactical complications which are in the inauguration phase at present. The commander noted that real operations can be designed and carried out through software of simulators which will reduce costs and promote skills. He noted that the base has mass-produced certain simulators after their initial samples were launched. On Saturday, IRIAF began the second phase of major aerial drills -- dubbed “Fadaeeyan Harim Velayat 3” (Defenders of Velayat Sanctuaries 3) -- in preparation for yet another extensive military maneuver next week. The second phase of the drills includes the performance of tactical flights and dropping of test ammunition on mock targets, said the spokesman for the drills, Hossein Chit-Foroush. He added that that Saeqeh, F-4 and F-5 fighter jets from different areas will be dispatched to the drill area in the northwest city of Tabriz. The third phase of the drill will feature air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles as well as various types of fighter sorties, Chit-Foroush added. SF/HRF http://presstv.com/detail/198546.html |

Iran to Use Modern Electronic Systems to Deceive, Redirect Guided Missiles
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian air defense commander announced on Saturday that the country plans to equip its air defense units with a state-of-the-art electronic warfare technology to be used for detouring enemies' guided missiles. Speaking to FNA, Lieutenant Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base for Electronic Warfare Colonel Moharram Qolizadeh pointed to the key role of electronic jamming systems in winning electronic warfare, and said Iran is seeking to go one more step to deceive and detour the incoming guided missiles. "When a guided missile is launched by the enemy, it is not possible to destroy it through jamming systems, but it is only possible to redirect it in a way that the missile loses its precision targeting capability," Qolizadeh added. "We have a project at hand that is in fact a stage ahead of jamming to 'deceive' the incoming missiles," the commander announced, and stated, "At this stage, we disrupt transmission of data to the data processing unit of incoming missiles and reprogram it with our own information and redirect the missile towards our desirable point." He further said that the highly advanced technology will be used in the country's air defense systems in the near future. Last August, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmadi Vahidi said that Tehran is capable of producing different kinds of electronic warfare systems to fight back enemies' possible electronic war against Iran. "The communication tools and equipment produced by the Iranian experts have helped us establish fully desirable land, air, sea and defensive communications at tactical and non-tactical levels for the Armed Forces," he said at the time. Vahidi described security, resistance, smartness, modernity, low volume and weight as well as high efficiency as the special features of Iran's electronic products. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9006230448 Commander: Iran Developing Upgraded Version of Russian S-300 TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian military commander announced here on Tuesday that Iran is developing its own version of the sophisticated S-300 air defense system, adding that Iranian experts have removed the flaws and defects of the Russian version. Speaking to FNA, Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli said that the country's experts have started designing and building an Iranian version of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system after Russia refrained from delivering it to Iran. He noted that the development of system, dubbed as Bavar 373, started at an order issued by the commander in-chief, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei. Asked about the features and specifications of the Iranian system, Esmayeeli stated, "The flaws and defects of the (Russian) S-300 system have been removed in the indigenous version of the system and its conceptual designing has been finished." Esmayeeli noted that right now Iranian experts in Khatam ol-Anbia base and the Ministry of Defense are in conducting the precise designing of the system. He stated that the Iranian defense ministry system uses two to three types of missiles in different layers to confront aerial targets. Under a contract signed in 2007, Russia was required to provide Iran with at least five S-300 air-defense systems. However, Moscow's continuous delays in delivering the defense system drew criticism from the Islamic Republic on several occasions. Russia refused to deliver the system to Iran under the pretext that the system is covered by the fourth round of UN Security Council resolutions against Iran. After the resolution was passed, Moscow said that it was not obliged to drop the S-300 deal with Iran, since it was not referenced in the UNSC resolution. But after Washington's continued pressures, Moscow claimed that upon further study of the sanctions resolution, it was freezing the delivery. Iran criticized Russia, saying that since Resolution 1929 does not specifically ban the delivery of defensive missiles, Moscow has no excuse for refusing to commit to the deal. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev issued a decree in September 2010 prohibiting the sale of S-300 missile systems to Iran, citing restrictions under sanctions the UN Security Council imposed on Tehran in June over its nuclear activities. Iran dismissed Russia's justification that the ban on the delivery of the S-300 missile system to Iran was in line with the (US-engineered) UN Security Council Resolution 1929, and stated that this is an air defense system which is not included in Resolution 1929. On June 9, 2010, the UN Security Council (UNSC) imposed a US-engineered sanctions resolution against Iran over allegations that Tehran's nuclear program is military in nature. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9006290050 |

Iran to Display Latest UAV, Missile Products Thursday
TEHRAN (FNA)- Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) officials announced on Wednesday that the country plans to display the latest generation of Shahab missiles, pilotless drones and electronic war systems in the military parades on Thursday. "This year too our major weapons and equipments, like the different classes of Shahab missiles, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and various types of electronic warfare systems, will be displayed in the parades," IRGC liaison officer and head of the headquarters responsible for the arrangement of September 22 Parades, General Abulqassem Foroutan, announced on Wednesday. He further pointed out that the military parades this year have a new meaning as they happen concurrent with the growing waves of Islamic awakening and Muslim uprisings in several countries in the region. Earlier today another Iranian commander announced that the Army plans to unveil an upgraded version of the Zolfaqar battle tanks during the military parades tomorrow. Deputy Commander of the Army's Ground Force for Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad General Seyed Massoud Reza Zawareh'ee said that the Ground Force attaches much importance to firepower, mobility and protection as three major and decisive factors in battlefields and Zolfaqar tanks that use state of the art technology set an example in all these three fields. "Production of the new generation of the tank has already come on our agenda and its first samples will be displayed in tomorrow's parades," he announced. The parades mark the start of the Week of Sacred Defense, commemorating Iranian sacrifices during the 8 years of the Iraqi imposed war on Iran in 1980s. Each year, the Iranian Armed Forces display the country's latest military achievements and products in nationwide parades on September 22. On Sunday, Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi also informed that the country would display its latest military achievements and products in nationwide parades on September 22. "The latest achievements of the Defense Ministry which have been supplied to the Armed Forces recently will be displayed by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Islamic Republic Army during the September 22 parades," Vahidi said during a visit to a defense industry plant on Sunday. "These achievements" he said "are the latest missile, air, electronic and telecommunications, armored, naval and anti-air tools, weapons and equipments produced in the country." Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes. Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country. The country stages several air, land and sea wargames each year to test its newly produced weapons and equipments. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9006300096 Iran to Display New Generation of Zolfaqar Tanks in Thursday Parades TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force announced that the army plans to unveil an upgraded version of the Zolfaqar battle tanks during the military parades on Thursday. Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commander of the Army's Ground Force for Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad General Seyed Massoud Reza Zawareh'ee said that the Ground Force attaches much importance to firepower, mobility and protection as three major and decisive factors in battlefields and Zolfaqar tanks that use state of the art technology set an example in all these three fields. "Production of the new generation of the tank has already come on our agenda and its first samples will be displayed in tomorrow's parades," he announced. He further cited Ranger, Samandar and the 2.5-ton Neinava tactical vehicles as among the other major achievements of the Army Ground Force ready to be mass-produced. Zolfaqar is a second generation of Iran's main battle tank (MBT). The test prototypes of the tank were evaluated in 1993. Six semi-industrial prototypes of the tank were produced and tested in 1997. The tank has a distinctive box-shaped, steel-welded turret of local design. Zolfaqar combat weight is reported to be 36 tons and has a 780 hp diesel engine; the tank has a 21.7 hp per ton ratio. The Zolfaqar is operated by a crew of three personnel. The automatic loader is believed to be the same one from the T-72 tank. The tank is armed with a 125 mm smoothbore gun 2A46, which is fitted with a fume extractor. Its secondary armament consists of a 7.62 mm coaxial and a 12.7 mm machine gun. For the Zolfaqar fleet, the Ammunition Group of the Iranian Defense Industries Organization mass produces a standard high explosive 23 kilograms (51 lb) propellant charge which fires the 3 kg warhead at a muzzle velocity of 850 meters per second (2,800 ft/s). The Zolfaqar-1 uses a fire control system which enjoys a 'fire-on-the-move' technology. The Zolfaqar mounts a laser-warning pod on the turret. Its design enables the tank to use an Iranian-made package of reactive armor. Zolfaqar-2 is a prototype tank used as a test bed. The Zolfaqar-3 also features considerable upgrades to the fire control system, chassis, engine and main gun, with a 125mm autoloader. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9006300090 |

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Army officials announced on Wednesday that the Army has reached self-sufficiency in the production of biological-agents detection kits. "The Army has reached self-sufficiency in the production of kits used for the rapid detection of biological agents," the deputy head of the Army's Medical Sciences University for Research, Colonel Khoshdel, announced on Wednesday. He further noted the Army's good progress in radiation medicine in modern battles, and also said that the university has also made good achievements in underwater and aerospace medicines. "International interaction is next on our agenda and we plan to host the second international conference on Subsurface and Aerospace Medicines," he added. Iran has taken wide strides in science and technology, particularly in medical and medicinal fields, in recent years. In September 2010, Iran announced that it plans to synthesize 20 kinds of radiomedicine inside the country. In December, the country unveiled five different radiomedicine projects with applications for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of a number of diseases. In January, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced that the country's scientists have managed to synthesize two new types of radiomedicines to treat malignant types of cancer. Also earlier this month, Iranian Health Minister Marziyeh Vahid Dastjerdi announced that the country plans to boost its capacities and capabilities in a bid to make a huge and rapid advancement in drug production by synthesizing 15 types of anti-cancer medicines,. "15 types of monoclonal anti-body drugs are being synthesized with the help of the Scientific Department of the Presidential Office, using hi-tech technology," Vahid Dastjerdi said. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9006300066 Fateh submarines to join Iran Navy Amid efforts to tighten naval security in the country's southern coasts, the most modern domestically-built Fateh (Conqueror) submarines will join Iranian Navy in the near future. The 600-ton Fateh is among semi-heavy submarines belonging to Iran's Army which will probably been used to carry out coastal missions along with other submarines, including Ghadir, Fars news agency reported on Wednesday. The submarine is equipped with state-of-the-art defensive and offensive weaponries such as torpedoes and marine mines. It can operate more than 200 meters below the sea surface for near five weeks. In August 2010, four domestic-made Ghadir class mini submarines joined the Iranian Navy which are capable of launching torpedoes as well as precision targeting. The Ghadir submarine was first unveiled in 2007. The 120-ton vessel has excellent shallow depth performance, and can carry out long-term coastal missions. The Iranian fleet currently has 11 Ghadir submarines. In recent years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems. The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that Tehran's defense doctrine is based on deterrence only. 'Iran can disrupt military satellites'
A senior Iranian commander says the Islamic Republic's air defense has acquired the know-how to disrupt military and spy satellite communications. Iran's air defense is prepared to embark on space-related activities as it is already capable of disrupting enemy's military and spy satellites, said Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili on Tuesday. These capabilities have been developed domestically by Iranian experts, despite the US-sponsored sanctions against the country, General Esmaili told Fars news agency. The Iranian commander also pointed to projects by the country's defense industries to produce Bavar-373 missile defense and radar systems, and noted that work continues on the projects. Bavar-373 is Iran's corrected version of Russia's S-300 surface-to-air missile system, which uses two or three types of missiles to confront aerial targets in different layers. Also in early September, Iran announced that it succeeded to design and produce the long-range cosmos radar. The domestically-manufactured system can detect, intercept and destroy aircraft equipped with radar cross-section system (RCS), cruise missiles and strategic long-range aircraft. In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment, including advanced air defense systems. Iran has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying its defense doctrine is based on deterrence. ASH/GHN/MB http://www.presstv.ir/detail/202867.html Iranian Universities Working on Hundreds of Defense Projects TEHRAN (FNA)- Senior Iranian science officials said that the country's universities and academic centers are accomplishing around 300 projects for the defense ministry. Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Kamran Daneshjou underlined the key role of Iran's academic centers in strengthening the country's capability in defense fields, saying that half of the researches carried out at Iran's academic centers are aimed at increasing the country's defense capabilities. Daneshjou stated that 50% of academic research in Iran centers on boosting the country's defensive capabilities. He added that 200 defense projects have thus far been implemented in the form of 1,000 university dissertations and theses. Iran has also made huge achievements in various fields of science and technology, from nuclear knowledge to stem cell and Nano technology. In a most recent case, Iranian Health Minister Marziyeh Vahid Dastjerdi announced last month that the country would soon start production of 15 types of anti-cancer drugs. "15 types of monoclonal anti-body drugs are being synthesized with the help of the Scientific Department of the Presidential Office, using hi-tech technology," Vahid Dastjerdi said. Also earlier this year, Iranian scientists succeeded in producing new types of medication for treating different kinds of cancer, viral diseases and arthritis with 100% positive results. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9007160106 |

'Iran advanced radars can detect UAVs'
ran's Army has successfully equipped the country's defense system with advanced radars capable of detecting unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), a senior Iranian commander says. Commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said the Islamic Republic was now in possession of “radars with multiple frequencies and different wavelengths for detecting unmanned aircraft”. “No unauthorized unmanned aircraft now dares fly over the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Esmaili said. The Iranian commander further said that the Air Defense of Iran's Army was ready to destroy any unauthorized unmanned aircraft in the country's air space. The Khatam al- Anbiya Air Defense Base is in charge of coordinating the aerial defense activities of the Iranian Army and Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in important military equipment and systems. In September, Iran equipped its Navy and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) with a domestically-produced anti-ship stealth missile dubbed Qader (Able). The cruise missile, that has a range of more than 200 kilometers, has been hailed as a projectile undetectable by the most advanced radar systems and one of a destructive power enough to sink any large battleship. The Islamic Republic has, however, repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying the country's defense doctrine is based on deterrence. AR/MYA/HJL http://www.presstv.ir/detail/203398.html Iran Dedicates Half of Academic Research to Boosting Defense Capabilities TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Kamran Daneshjou said that half of the country's academic researches have focused on upgrading and boosting the country's defense capabilities. "50% of the country's academic researches should focus on increasing Iran's defense power and universities should cooperate with defense entities," Daneshjou said, addressing a gathering of Iranian university chancellors here in Tehran on Tuesday. "All the country's universities are required to direct their researches towards (increasing) the country's defense capability," he reiterated, adding that Iranian students are entitled to work on nuclear, aerospace and stem cell subjects. Earlier in October, Daneshjou had said that the country's universities and academic centers are accomplishing around 300 projects for the defense ministry. Daneshjou underlined the key role of Iran's academic centers in strengthening the country's capability in defense fields, saying that half of the researches carried out at Iran's academic centers are aimed at increasing the country's defense capabilities. Daneshjou stated that 50% of academic research in Iran centers on boosting the country's defensive capabilities. He added that 200 defense projects have thus far been implemented in the form of 1,000 university dissertations and theses. Also in similar remarks earlier this month, Iran's Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said his ministry has launched extensive cooperation with the country's academic centers and universities in numerous projects. "The defense ministry has established extensive ties with the country's universities," Vahidi told FNA in October, and added, "And different universities are working on numerous projects for the defense ministry." He praised the Iranian universities' excellent capacities and potentials, and underlined that "the defense ministry is seeking to activate these potentials and utilize these capabilities". Attracting university elites is among the defense ministry's priorities, according to Vahidi. "Naturally, attracting those university elites who have achieved scientific success and specialized in defense fields is a serious agenda of the defense ministry," he reiterated. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9007161417 |
