Iranian Experts Develop Electromagnetic Gun (Railgun)
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian experts announced that they have designed and developed an electromagnetic gun that fires steel bullets without explosive propellant.

According to FNA dispatches, the home-made advanced gun (Railgun) enjoys a capability to fire thirty 8mm steel bullets per minute at targets.

The gun needs 2 seconds to recharge after each shot and fires bullets at a velocity of 330 meters per second (about the speed of the sound).

The gun's specification, including its high technology, soundlessness and its ability to fire bullets without explosive propellant has made it desirable for guarding important persons, protecting ammo caches, oil and gas installations and refineries and other vital centers and remote-protection of military and other sensitive and vital sites and facilities.

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran, to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.

Commander: IRGC Equips High-Speed Vessels with Home-Made Missiles
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps announced that the IRGC has equipped its high-speed and highly-functional vessels with home-made missiles capable of destroying different targets.

"The IRGC has mounted missiles on small vessels as well as high-speed vessels which enjoy high capabilities," Lieutenant Commander of the IRGC Naval Forces Alireza Tangsiri told FNA on Tuesday.

He underlined the home-grown nature of the missiles and speedboats used by the IRGC, and said, "The IRGC has the honor to produce all its needed vessels, equipment and missiles and at present we are witnessing production of various types of vessels by the force."

Iran has been pushing an arms development program in recent years in a bid to reach self-sufficiency. Tehran launched its arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran, to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own jet fighters and armored vehicles as well as radar-evading missiles and other high-tech weapons.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced in August that the country's Navy has equipped its new high-speed vessels named 'Zolfaqar' with 'Nasr 1' cruise missiles capable of destroying 3-ton weighted vessels.

"The Zolfaqar vessel is considered as a new model of the vessels of the same class which is capable of conducting operations in different marine conditions thanks to its sea-to-sea missiles and proper speed," Vahidi said at the time.

Reminding that the vessel has been strengthened with the Nasr 1 cruise missile, he reiterated, "The sea-to-sea cruise missile with high destructive capability and targeting power has immensely increased the vessel's power."

Nasr 1 is a short-range coast-to-sea and sea-to-sea missile which can be fired from coasts and all types of vessels.

Iran building new fighter jet, submarine

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says Iranian military experts are manufacturing a new fighter jet as well as a new submarine.

“The program of building this aircraft is underway in collaboration with the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF),” IRNA quoted Vahidi as saying Saturday.

He added that diversifying, maintaining, promoting and upgrading warplanes indicates the genius, knowledge, and progress of Iran's defense industry.

Vahidi also announced that a new advanced submarine would be delivered for use to Iran's Navy in the next months.

“This submarine is technology advanced, enjoys great maneuvering power and capability for subsurface operations, and is equipped with advanced weapons,” said Vahidi.

"Iran is the only country in the Muslim world capable of designing and building submarines."

Vahidi also announced the unveiling of a new cruise missile named “Zafar” (victory) by Iran's armed forces.

Iran has started a self-sufficiency campaign in the defense industry and has launched numerous military projects since the 1979 victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Iran has repeatedly said that announced its military might will be used to defend its territory against aggressors and that its military doctrine is based on deterrence.

Iran builds reconnaissance multipurpose UAV

ISNA - Tehran
Service: Science

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian scholars have built an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which can be used in different reconnaissance, imaging, military and non-military observation missions.
The Managing Director of the company built the vehicle Ehsan Rahmanian said, “The drone enjoys a high potentiality and can carry out various military and non-military missions including patrolling, reconnaissance and monitoring woods and pastures.”
“The drone is named “Shir Dal”. It is taken from a mythological creature in Persepolis with the body of a lion, head of an eagle and the ears of a horse,” Rahmanian told ISNA.
Saying the drone weighs 30 kg, he added, “It is completely unique and is build locally .We have built two of the kinds so far and for the time being we are in the stage of autopilot installing systems and the flight tests."
He said, "The drone is able to carry different imaging and information systems specified for the UAVs."
He added, “We are able to produce the vehicle in a vast number. We are willing to build them in larger sizes and in this regard we are signing contracts with different military and non-military centers.”
“The final cost for Shir Dal multipurpose UAVs would be about $ 50 thousands,” he continued.
Iran unveiled its first domestically-manufactured UAV named Karrar in on August 22, 2010.
The country also opened the production line of two domestically-built UAVs with bombing and reconnaissance capabilities on the same occasion.
Iran also successfully tested a home-made radar-evading UAV in June 2009.

Iranian lookouts equipped with advanced shoulder-fired launchers
TEHRAN – Iranian air defense units’ lookouts have been equipped with advanced shoulder-fired rocket launchers, enabling them to shoot down hostile aircraft, the Fars News Agency reported on Sunday.

According to the report, during the second stage of an aerial war game in east Iran on Saturday, lookouts carried out a combat operation, in which they were engaged in mock battles with hostile unmanned aerial vehicles.

In the operation, armed lookouts detected hostile UAVs and reported their location to the air defense command and targeted UAEs after receiving permission from the command post.

The aerial war game is being carried out to enhance Iran’s air defense.

During the second stage of the exercise, air defense units were also stationed in designated locations, and the military forces conducted electronic warfare drills.

The military forces countered the jamming attacks of the mock enemy and also practiced various tactics for attacking mock enemy targets utilizing radar.

Iran Tests Passive Radar Systems in Air Defense Drill
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran tested its passive radar systems and electronic warfare equipment in the massive air defense drills underway in the eastern parts of the country.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the air defense drills, Spokesman of the four-day exercises Colonel Abolfazl Sepehri told press tv that Iran's armed forces deployed the country's most up-to-date passive radar system and hardware for electronic warfare on Saturday.

Led by the Iranian Army's Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base, the armed forces also employed domestically-developed artillery, missile and composite defense systems to counter possible radar disruptions and enemy's telecommunications.

Sepehri told reporters that the Iranian forces applied certain strategies to further disrupt the navigational systems of the hypothetical enemies' flying objects.

Iran has recently renewed and upgraded the weapons and defense systems of its air defense units. Late in September, Iran equipped its air defense units across the country with large numbers of the home-made Mersad Air Defense Missile System.

On Sunday and in the third stage of the massive air defense exercises, the power, capability, weapons and military systems of the Rapid Reaction units of Iran's Air Defense Force were tested.

The Iranian Air Defense Force's rapid reaction units used their state-of-the-art, home-made weapons and systems, including multi-frequency radar equipment, anti-aircraft canons and different types of air defense missiles to force hypothetical enemy aircraft out of the country's air space.

Later in the drills, the rapid reaction units tested their ability against the hypothetical enemies' surprised night raids and blitzkrieg with full radio silence.

Colonel Sepehri voiced pleasure in his fully positive assessment of the performance of the rapid reaction units, saying that they have proved fully successful in repelling hypothetical enemy moves.

Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base started massive air defense drills in the country's Eastern regions on Thursday to test Iran's integrated air defense network and new anti-aircraft weapons.

Also on Sunday, Iran's Air Defense Force equipped its sentinels with state-of-the-art shoulder-launched rockets in a bid to increase their capability and power in defending the country's airspace.

The new man-portable air defense systems were tested in the second phase of the ongoing air defense exercises.

During the second phase of the drills finished on Saturday evening, air defense sentinels fired should-launched rockets at Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

A shoulder-fired rocket/missile, shoulder-launched rocket/missile or man-portable rocket/missile is a projectile fired at a target, small enough to be carried by a single person, and fired while held on one's shoulder.

Iran to Equip Navy with New Anti-Ship Missile Systems
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced that his ministry will equip the Iranian Army's naval force with newly produced coast-to-sea missile systems in coming days.

Speaking to FNA on Monday, Vahidi said that the missile systems will be delivered to the Navy this week, but declined to reveal any further detail.

He further reiterated that the recent blast at an IRGC base near Tehran which claimed the lives of 17 military personnel, including the head of IRGC weapons-production self-sufficiency department, did not at all disrupt the country's military progress and production.

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.

Late in September, the Iranian Defense Ministry supplied large numbers of the newly produced powerful ant-ship cruise missile, namely Qader (Mighty), to the naval forces of the Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) to boost Iran's naval power.

Vahidi said at the time that Qader is an anti-ship cruise missile with a range of 200km and enjoys a short launch time and is able to hit all naval vessels, including frigates and warships, as well as onshore enemy targets.

Iran deploys advanced missiles
The rapid-response units of Iran's anti-aircraft system deploy the country's most up-to-date and domestically-built reconnaissance equipment that use various frequency ranges and missiles, says an Iranian military spokesman.

Iran's army carried out “timely and covert” operations against the hypothetical enemy's night attacks in complete radio and telecommunication silence in the latest military drills aimed at maintaining the readiness of a nationwide radar network, Fars news agency reported on Monday.

Spokesman for the four-day military exercises Colonel Abolfazl Sepehri said that the units disrupted the navigational systems of the hypothetical enemies' flying objects and succeeded in foiling imaginary enemy measures.

The rapid-response units have the capability to conduct any operation independently and act against the enemy's navigational threats through modern military techniques.

The latest operations come in the final phase of the drills that started in the eastern part of the country, and are aimed at heightening the level of preparedness against possible threats to the Islamic homeland's airspace.

The Thamen al-Hojaj war games began late on November 18 in Iran's eastern regions covering some 800 thousand square kilometers (500 thousand miles).

A large number of combat, intelligence and operational divisions of the country's armed forces in addition to numerous defense units participated in the latest military maneuvers.

Iran has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

Iran to unveil new air defense products

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the country will unveil new products in the air defense sector in the near future.

Iran has produced various types of hardware for defense purposes which will be made public soon, Vahidi told IRNA on Thursday.

The minister emphasized that Iran is fully vigilant against threats and cautioned that the Islamic Republic will strongly punish the enemy, should it make the “slightest mistake”.

He warned Western countries against posing threats against Iran, and reiterated that the Islamic Republic remains fully prepared to counter the threats.

The Israeli and US authorities have in recent weeks stepped up their aggressive war rhetoric against Iran.

On November 6, Israeli President Shimon Peres threatened that an attack against the Islamic Republic was becoming “more and more likely.”

Iranian officials have promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.

Iranian military officials have said that the US and Israeli threats against Tehran are rooted in the duo's fear of Iran's advancements in different spheres.

Iranian Navy Receives 3 Ghadir-Class Submarines
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Army's Navy expanded the fleet of its submarines after it received three more Ghadir-class submarines today, Iranian Army's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said Saturday.

Speaking to reporters in a weekly press conference here in Tehran on Saturday, the Navy commander underlined that all parts of the submarines have been designed and manufactured by Iranian experts.

"All parts of these submarines, including their body and their advanced radar equipment and defense systems have been designed and manufactured by our country's defense experts and with the help of the Defense Ministry," he said.

Iranian commanders said earlier that Ghadir-class submarines have boosted the Navy's capability in defending the country's territorial waters.

The submarine has been designed and manufactured according to the geographical and climate conditions and specifications of Iranian waters, according to military experts.

Last August Iran launched four light and advanced submarines. The Ghadir-class submarines, made by the Defense Ministry's Marine Industries, officially joined Iran's naval fleet in an official ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and Rear Admiral Sayyari.

Iran announced in June 2009 that a home-made submarine, named Ghadir 948, had joined the naval brigade of the first naval zone.

In November 2009, Iran announced that its first domestically built Ghadir class submarine launched operation.

The Iranian military said that the submarine can easily evade detection as it is equipped with sonar-evading technology and can fire missiles and torpedoes simultaneously.

IRGC Armed with Large Numbers of Advanced Air Defense Canons
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force on Tuesday received a large number of air defense canons manufactured by the Iranian Defense Industries.

The 100mm air defense guns named "Sa'eer" were delivered to the IRGC Aerospace Force during a ceremony attended by the commander of the force, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, and Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony, Vahidi said the automatic system is assisted by a radar-optic interception system and could fire at targets without crew intervention.

The medium range gun operates at an improved precision compared to its counterparts.

The gun is capable of firing 12 to 15 shells per minute.

Vahidi had earlier informed the media that his ministry planned to supply new air defense systems to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Also, the Iranian Defense Ministry on Wednesday supplied a large number of highly advanced coast-to-sea cruise missiles to the Army's naval forces.

The missiles were delivered to the Navy in a ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.

The move came on the verge of the National Navy Day on November 28.

Anyhow, great achievement. We should all be proud. We are now in possession of a drone that has probably costed hundreds of millions of dollars in R&D. If we have indeed hacked it, then we're the first in history to achieve this. If it was shot down, then we're the second in history.

DAMN...

Now that would be hell of a priceless treasure if the news is true.China and Russia will be knocking Iranian doors on info about this treasure trove.Billions of $$$ spent on development only to drop on Iran's lap.Not that bad yeah...

Just imagine a reverse engineered US drone used to spy on US bases in the region.

And imagine if the UAV turns out to be a stealth UAV(which I believe most of them are) then its a hell of an achievement for Iran to actually detect it and bring it down which hints at the actual technological capability of Iranian military.
