Brum has some beautiful old architecture. What's the name of that street from pics 2,3 and 5?

It's called Cannon Street .... it runs from the side of the House of Fraser department store off Cherry Street down to New Street, which is one of the city's principal shopping streets

Great images of Birmingham - if only people would get around and, actually, visit places - then many false images and stereotypes would be laid to rest.

Birmingham has suffered an image problem, in large part, due to its position at the centre of the motorway network.

Speechless. Imposing architecture there, that's for sure.

True, but the 60's town planners certainly didn't help much.

Thnks mate!

Here are my LAST set of pics, I had a really good time in Birmingham, the christmas markets, the developments, the exisiting city all impressed me more than at any time ive been. My only critasisms of the city are ones which seem to be being worked on already: undo the seperation of pedestrians onto overhead walkways from cars eg 60's developements as i find this breaks up the streetscape. Improve the pedestrian realm, i'm talking here specifically about paving materials, the bullrings paving should be extended all the way up the main shopping drag and any sign of brick pavements removed! And maybe some more green urban spaces on the periffery of the city center.

That may be true of the sprawling metal sheds of today, but many older factories are rather pleasing on the eye. Some are very elaborate indeed.

Not too sure what a city's position on the motorway network would have to do with its image either though. I'd have thought any image problem with Birmingham would be caused by the fact that it seems to have suffered more than most cities from the excesses of post-war redevelopment.
