The existing library was built in the middle of a avenue/line of site that led to the original main gate. With it being demolished this will be restored and make a very imposing entrance to the Uni.

I'd be interested to see what AA have come up with for the entrance. They did the Leicester Uni library which is hellish getting in/out of at busy periods. A huge glass frontage with only two narrow entrances, made worse by the automatic doors not opening fully.

I think it is a great idea to create the 'green heart' on campus. I would however like to see a water feature at the heart of the proposed 'green heart'; Perhaps a water fountain or even an artificial lake. I have already suggested this via my comments on the planning consultation website. Anyone of the same view?

I prefer the old one.

I dislike the proposed library, but a tree lined entrance to the uni will really make it a treasure.

Oxford/Cambridge aside is there a more attractive university in the UK?

There are lots of British unis with beautiful buildings, but I don't think any redbrick or more recent Uni has anything more beautiful than Chancellor's court. Very few British universities have a better setting than the heart of Edgbaston too. I think the Birmingham campus (like many) suffers from some bad building in the 50, 60 and 70s. Part of these proposals rectify that with the removal of Chemistry West. If they could replace the Biosciences building with something that isn't utterly rancid, and perhaps Physics. The campus as a whole would be even better. I can't imagine that they don't have plans to improve Staff House too - given the focus on this green heart. But who knows.

I like this, but would have thought the external bricks might have been red as a nod towards the rest of the campus buildings. I'm not saying it should be the same style as the other buildings (particularly since there are so many different styles and materials) but a nod towards the 'red brick university' seems appropriate
