Ontario Place needs wild imagination

In my opinion that kind of attraction is a lot more safer financially than any kind of investing in risky short time events (Olympics, World Expo, Pan American etc.).

That might be a good idea for down around the old Roundhouse that has been converted into a Train Museum (amongst other things).

They should replace Ontario place with a giant indoor water park with slides and a wave pool and the other half they should build that 3 story ice arena the city was showing renders of a year ago.

I wonder if Ripley's regrets not doing this, instead of their Niagara waterpark. The CN Tower aquarium was originally intended to go next to their Niagara Falls waterpark, but tight border controls and declining tourism made them switch to Toronto.

I think they should put Ford's ferris wheel and hotel at Ontario place instead. Why not? It's meant to be a tourist attraction.

Toronto Sun article:
Casino Would be Jackpot for Toronto, Mammoliti Says

BY DON PEAT
CITY HALL BUREAU CHIEF
FIRST POSTED: FRIDAY, JANUARY 13, 2012 02:48 PM EST
UPDATED: FRIDAY, JANUARY 13, 2012 03:00 PM EST

...Mammoliti said he’ll be speaking with Mayor Rob Ford’s administration about whether now would be a good time to have a council debate on Hogtown having its own casino. “We’ve never taken a vote on the issue and maybe now it is time to do that,” he said. Bringing a casino to Toronto was a key plank in Mammoliti’s aborted 2010 mayoral campaign platform. “We need the money,” Mammoliti said. “There could be about $500 million (in revenue) a year to this city.” He argues the city should have hit the jackpot with a casino a long time ago.

“The problem is there are many councillors on council who don’t like to gamble at all and aren’t even willing to look at the revenue associated to it,” he said. “They would rather our gambling addicts go to Niagara Falls or Barrie to do their gambling.

“But they are still our addicts, they still like to gamble and we’re losing a tonne of money in the City of Toronto because the revenue is going elsewhere.”

In response to critics who warn a casino would bring social problems, Mammoliti said the temporary nature of a casino ship would allow the city to experiment without a major infrastructure investment. “Give it a run, let’s see how bad the social problems actually are and if we all agree that they are bad, then we just have the ship sail away,” he said.

Councillor Janet Davis said Mammoliti’s “always had this pipe dream.”

“Is he going to put it in the red light district?” she said, referencing another of Mammoliti’s past suggestions....

I am all for the Casino...
there needs to be something grand out there.. a hugh tourist attraction..
there is room for sooo much out there.. such wasted space and opportunities to build something awesome...
while there are at it- they should transform Molson Amphitheatre and hook it up to the Casino... and make it into an indoor venue - and get rid of horrible sightlines..

A casino is the first thing that coms to mind when someone has no other ideas of how to increase tourism or make money. It will just take away money from Ontario's other casinos. I'm not totally against it, I just think it's lame. Almost every city has a casino, so it's not a major tourist draw. It will mainly just keep Torontonians from going to Niagara. If one does get built, I would at least hope it goes to Ontario Place and is a really spectacular design. More than likely, it will probably be a more modest design, with our austerity measures.

hahahah Everyone brings up the Simpsons monorail episode quotes, but they also did some great episodes about the Springfield waterfront redevelopment (Squidport) and casino gambling (Mr. Burn's Casino).

Cheers, m

If there's one man that can do it it's him. If Mammoliti a.k.a - Gino Boy, and the Ford not so dream team had their way the Toronto waterfront would be full of Ferris Weels, Hookers, and Casinos. Bunch of dumb asses.

Best of luck Tory, I know you'll do well. Wish you were our mayor.

Sources say Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who respects Tory, will be willing to work with him on any integration plans.

He doesn't respect him, he's afraid of him. He's probably hoping this will keep him to busy to run in 2014 or endorse a better candidate.

Ford was amazingly good as a councillor except when he was in the council chambers or in the news. As councillor, those were pretty minor components.

When he dealt with people in his neighbourhood on an individual basis, his stubborness could get city workers to react to fix the pothole or paint the fence or navigate the tree bylaws.

Lots of people get promoted into jobs they suck at.

He also never had to run against Miller, it was one right against 4 left, of coarse he won.

It would be a perfect location for a year round Cirque Du Soleil venue.
