Motorway openings in January 2016

I created this table to sum up all motorway openings happened last month. I think it would be a good idea to make one every month.

G59 Hubei Expressway, China

6 February 2016

Three segments of the Hohhot - Beihai (Hubei) Expressway have been reported open in Hubei province.

It is a circa 90 kilometer long segment in the mountains from G4213 at Baokang to Yuan'an. This segment features quite a number of multi-kilometer tunnels. It links up with the also opened G4213.

Another segment runs east of Yichang and links G42 and G50 over a distance of approximately 25 kilometers. It may have opened further south to G318 near the Yangtze River, but there is definitely no bridge across the river yet.

The third segment reported open runs from S88 at Yidu to some town at the S242/S325 junction. I have my doubts whether this actually opened to traffic, because April 2015 imagery in Google Earth shows the construction works are not very advanced and this segment requires several large bridges.

This segment includes a concurrency of G59 and G4213 between Baokang and Sipingzhen. The new expressway runs through very mountainous terrain, Google Earth suggests it is a spectacular route through valleys and it contains several long tunnels, the longest may be around 9 kilometers in length.
