New York City | 3D Visualization
![]() Here I'll be posting, along with DinoVabec, renderings, illustrations, infographics and diagrams related to the new developments of New York City, including the new World Trade Center complex. Don't expect renderings of the whole city, since we lack of powerful computers to do such thing. However, I'm constantly searching for photographers who are open to use their work as backgrounds. We try to be as accurate as possible to the real thing, leaving small time to produce several renderings. Criticism is always welcome, just try to be constructive.

Thanks everyone!
Thanks, although I need to edit the properties of the fins; they look like if they were metal panes, when they're supposed to be glass with a frosted layer in the back. Radome enclosing the antenna of 1WTC

Starting to model Calatrava's Transportation Hub, in the mean time the East-West Corridor that connects the World Financial Center with the hub is already built. The arches are 18.5 degrees rotated to the east. The balcony is labeled as B2, and it will be a gateway to the Observation Deck Lobby of Tower One. The bottom floor is labeled B3, and it will feature retail and restaurant amenities through the corridor.
image hosted on flickr ![]() The B2 east area of Tower One has been a difficult section to recreate since there are no official renderings; I used as basis floorplans, for now the basic geometry is already built still some errors to correct with Vray materials, such as reducing the reflection glossiness of the ceiling.

you're doing a great job at this, Otie! it's the best SKP model of the new WTC that i've seen so far

^Thanks, so far the only building that's already built is One, I'll eventually do the rest of the complex, but Tower One will remain as the most accurate and detailed model of the whole collection. Soon I'll start with One57, Hearst Tower, the World Financial Center, Drake Hotel and perhaps the proposed Hudson Yards.
Starting to model the cable-net wall at the four entrances, the thing is more complicated than what I've expected. ![]() Notice that on this rendering the revolving doors aren't done yet, missing also the canopies, stainless steel panels at the wall and recessed lights at the ceiling. Not sure how I'm going to model the trees outside, I need something photo-realistic. ![]() The basic geometry of the glass fins located at the base is completed; now I need to add reflection and refraction layer to the glass material (this thing needs refraction in order to produce a frosted finish); rendering time will increase hell alot once the material is applied. Notice that on this rendering the cable-net wall at the entrances is not yet modeled; the rest of the tower is hidden since it's a test render.

the details on your latest cladding are stunning. but with so many polygons, it may become difficult to use it in higher quantities

Yeah wicked details, the old polygon issue will surely rear its head - we all need quantum computers!

The trees are okay, but you maybe better with an actual polygonal tree model than post produced composite. You'll be able to attain shadowing from tree onto the facade, which could look nice as well

There is a more simple way - just do the alpha mapping in the Transparency in Diffuse Options...

Been improving alot since last rendering work; here I've applied bump mapping to the flooring, marble cladding and normal walls, added also reflection to almost every material in order to produce a photo-realistic result. After the rendering engine did its job, post-production came along pretty nice. With help of Photoshop, the image needed color correction, brightness and contrast adjustment and a little of color balance; after that glow effect was added.
Some observations to do though: The IOR Fresnel Reflection of the glass rail is too high, I need to lower it to about 2.0. The aluminium material applied on the revolving doors has a low reflection glossiness, need to edit it again. I also need to edit (again) the bitmap mapping of marble cladding, increasing the resolution of the image to avoid low quality results. ![]() edit:

Really nice renders and interesting to hear your comments on render settings & improvements. What are you modelling rendering with? My only comment would be the glow seems a tad strong, otherwise looks good.
