Just checked and confirmed through Turkish Airlines' website (via mock booking): the airline will start operating daily flights between Istanbul and San Francisco from 13 April 2015, on board the B777-300ER. Schedule:

TK079 IST1305 - 1625SFO D 77W
TK080 SFO1810 - 1705+1IST D 77W

Looks like the beauty of the Bosphorus will be much easier to reach from the Bay Area... and it can help enhance trade relations (especially the tech sector) between Turkey and Silicon Valley.

Bump... This is not-so-good news for both Star Alliance member, Asiana, and SFO...

Quote:
South Korea bans Asiana flights to S.F. as punishment for 2013 crash

South Korean officials have banned Asiana Airlines from flying to San Francisco International Airport for 45 days due to last year's deadly runway crash.

The nation's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced its decision to restrict the airline's flights to San Francisco on Friday, the Associated Press reported. Asiana plans to appeal the decision, according to media reports.

Doug Yakel, spokesman for San Francisco International Airport, told The Times they have received limited information about the decision and have not been told when it will be begin or even if it will ever happen.

As of Friday, the South Korea-based airline still had a flight on schedule at the airport.

Yes, it is quite a development. Not flying for 45 days might put people off flying with OZ. I have flown with them twice and found it to be a nice experience with exceptional service. With three other carriers, UA,KE and SQ, offering service from SFO to Incheon, I could see KE either upguage or adding service.

Indeed. Not to mention, UA and SQ are also in the same alliance as OZ, so it may be more than likely that the former might add service to backup any lost traffic from OZ being suspended from operating to SFO. KE, though, is a great alternative (despite it being with Skyteam)... SQ may be difficult since it has to continue on to Singapore.

From SFO, multiple aircraft departing and arriving at the same time... what a sight!

United Airlines B747-400 (reg. N107UA)

Etihad Airways began service today into SFO from AUH. They leased a 77W from their partner Jet Airways (9W) for this service but is crewed by EY.

Photo provided by SFO of their arrival on a beautiful morning with colors galore.

Surprised no one has posted this here yet.

BART aerial tram connecting to Oakland International Airport opens this weekend

This means that two of the San Francisco Bay Area's major airports will now have direct mass transit access.

I am pretty aware of that... and btw, it is more expensive to use that than AC Transit's bus services, especially if you go local (within the East Bay). A sample fare matrix: (all trips one way)

Oakland Airport BART - Coliseum BART:
Via BART connector: $6.00 - 8 minutes
Via AC Transit's Route 73: $2.10 (cash) or $2.00 (Clipper) - average travel time of 11 minutes

Oakland Airport BART - Fruitvale BART:
Via BART connector: $7.85 - average travel time of 20 minutes
Via AC Transit's Route 21: $2.10 (cash) or $2.00 (Clipper) - average travel time of 35 minutes (runs via Bay Farm Island and Downtown Alameda)

Oakland Airport BART - Downtown San Francisco: $10.05 - average travel time of 30 to 35 minutes, with a transfer at Coliseum BART

Oakland Airport BART - San Francisco International Airport: $15.40 - average travel time of 75 minutes, will require two transfers at Coliseum BART and Balboa Park BART

Bump...

So, Southwest Airlines will be expanding out of Oakland next year, with two flight resumptions, both of which will be operated daily and will begin operations from 7 June 2015:

Oakland - Nashville:

WN3949 OAK1040 - 1650BNA 737 D
WN4118 BNA1410 - 1640OAK 737 D

Oakland - New Orleans:

WN1618 OAK1530 - 2135MSY 737 D
WN190 MSY1520 - 1750OAK 737 D

Both schedules are from Southwest Airlines' website via mock booking.

In addition, multiple new flights will be mounted from other points throughout the country, including new international routes:

- Austin - Los Cabos (once daily)
- Baltimore - Los Cabos (once weekly, seasonal)
- Orange County - Puerto Vallarta (once daily)
