Air Tanzania will lease a 737-500, from today :

Dar es Salaam. Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) has leased a plane that is expected to arrive in the country today.The 108-seat Boeing 737-500 leased from Aero Vista Dubai has been inspected in Cairo by a team of experts from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA).

I read in Dailynews Website that they are planning direct flights to Dubai in three months time if they stabilize in local market !

I seriously wish this is not some bogus statement to spread smiles.

They needs more planes, there was an Aircraft producer in TZ some days ago and I hope Air Tanzania guys have made some meeting with them.

They need to lease more turboprop planes such as Q300/400 for domestic market then a couple regional jets for EAC/SADC region. Then think of going to Dubai and far east later.

And to keep operating costs down they need to follow this lead. No National airline should be left to go bankrupt for you may need it in circumstances where a private airline cannot dare touch.

Nine African airlines have come together to purchase aircraft fuel jointly, a move the carriers believe will increase their leverage and raise the value and quality of fuel being procured.

According to the African Airlines Assn. (AFRAA), the nine airlines participating in the program include Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Air Malawi, Air Namibia, Air Seychelles, LAM Mozambique Airlines, Precision Air, Rwandair and TAAG Angola Airlines.

If we only get South africa and Egypt air to join this then we would be a perfect combination or all major african airlines so we battle with the European strict air laws

ATCL back in skies in a week

Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) newly leased Boeing 737-500 plane will begin Dar-Mwanza-Kilimanjaro flights before embarking on international flights, the Chief Executive Officer Paul Chizi has said.

Speaking shortly after the arrival of the 108-seater plane leased from Aero Vista Dubai, Chizi said ATCL will resume flights in a week’s time, hinting at the possibility of linking Dar es Salaam to Dubai during the next three months.
“Tanzanians should expect the best services that they have missed for some time. This time we expect to give timely but affordable services,” he said.

Chizi said the company will enter into joint ventures with international flight carriers in a bid to expand its footprint, stressing that the initiative will be on a win-win situation.

“Through such partnerships, we will ensure there is a win-win situation. Where a company doesn’t benefit such partnership doesn’t last,” he said.

He added that the company’s plane undergoing repairs at Terminal One will be ready in the next six weeks and will help boost the company’s service delivery.

The leased plane has already been inspected by a team of experts from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) in Cairo, Egypt and a certificate granted for the plane to operate in the country.

ATCL recently launched a website in order to improve customer service delivery as well as boost the national flag carrier’s efficiency.

The website enables customers to make bookings without going through ATCL offices or agents and enables customers to air their views through social networks.

The ATCL CEO told reporters a few that acquisition of the plane was a short-term plan to enhance the firm’s service delivery, adding that the airline has a long-term plan that will be implemented accordingly.
