It’s business as usual at the NIA with a fantastic line up of events and concerts for the rest of 2012. It’s going to be an exciting and challenging project as we plan to remain open during the redevelopment with only short periods of closure during non-event months. No further images or drawings are available yet but rest assured we will post these when they are ready.

Thank you .... and good news that a missed opportunity will be corrected .... i.e. the NIA truly making the most of one of the best water front locations in the city, something that should've been given a lot more thought and consideration almost 25 years ago when the idea of a centrally located arena for Birmingham was first conceived.

True but they aren't the only culprits. If you study how the National Theatre is (still) layed out you'll see that the lovely south bank location is mostly being enjoyed by the bins and catering staff (being the closest thing to the river).

They are, though, in the process of correcting this.

Barclaycard deal will mean new name for NIA

1st March 2012

THE NEC Group has signed a five year partnership deal with Barclaycard which will see Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena (NIA) venue renamed NIA, A Barclaycard Unwind Experience.

The deal will also see Barclaycard become official payment partner of The Ticket Factory, the LG Arena, the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and the NIA, which is set to undergo a £20.6m transformation by 2014.

Dan Mathieson, head of experiential marketing and partnerships at Barclaycard, said: “Striking this deal gives Barclaycard a chance to showcase innovation in payment at some of the UK’s hottest entertainment events and venues.

Paul Thandi, chief executive at the NEC Group, said: "Having a partnership of this calibre is a landmark in the NEC Group’s renewed evolution. This partnership fits our business philosophy around providing meaningful live experiences for our customers.

“We share a drive to invest in technology and solutions that simplify the customer journey which means we will be able to offer an outstanding entertainment experience from start to finish.”

Good lord!!! Is that not the most appalling name - 'The Unwind Experience'. Why not simply 'The Barclaycard NIA'!!

I'm assuming they will change it after they realise how ridiculous it sounds to "normal" people, not how it sounds to advertising and marketing executives.

I think they have go their dates mixed up surely this press release was meant for April 1 not March 1

What a joke of a name

Not great for Barclaycard, who on earth will call it that. Doesn't work anywhere near as well as the LG Arena.

Still if it pays for the redevelopment then fine.

Let's hope LG don't expand it back to their original name - the 'Lucky Goldstar Arena' doesn't have quite the same ring!!! Lol. Saying that, it would still be better than the 'Barclaycard Unwind Experience!!!!!!!

I'm told the official name is 'The NIA a Barclaycard Unwind Experience'.

Same as 'The Wembley Arena a Barclaycard Unwind Experience'

Which simply means that the general public will call them....

..the NIA and Wembley Arena, which makes the sponsorship pointless.
