What would happen if the Lakers and Clippers met in the WCF?
This question might never have been asked before Chris Paul signed with the Clippers but it's something to think about. We all know the Lakers are perennial contenders for the NBA Championship but they are in rebuilding mode right now. They'll most likely make the playoffs but I honestly don't think they'll win the championship. Nothing at all wrong with that.
But the Clippers are doing something they have never done: Starting to become relevant in the NBA. They have, since pretty much for as long as anyone can remember, sucked. When people think of bad basketball teams, they think of the Clippers. But I think the Clippers are on their way up. Now comes the interesting thing: If the Lakers and Clippers were to meet in the Western Conference Finals, I think it'll rank as one of the biggest sporting events in LA history. Right up there with the Olympics. It'll tear this city apart but in a good way. The amount of coverage it'll receive by the local media, as well as sports and probably US media like CNN and all of that would be mind blowing. There would obviously be Clipper bandwagon fans but I don't think I would mind. Remember when they made the playoffs in 2006 and were THIS close to beating the Suns? Hollywood would shit a brick. There would be all sorts of Laker/Clipper parties. People would be designing clothes left and right. It would be a huge moment in LA that's for sure.

Odom is out of the triangle offense, so we'll see how Bynum does it. Kind of a shame that Lakers just gave away Odom for almost nothing. We'll see how Mike Brown can hold the team up.
Clippers? Definitely goin strong. Billips and Butler will really compliment Chris Paul. And don't forget Blake Griffin and Mo Williams. This will definitely be interesting to watch.

That is a very interesting proposition. |

agreed! if the Clips learn how to play defense, which Chris paul, billups and Butler will help with, they will be a real force. According to some Vegas books, the Clips are now the fifth most likely team to win the championship. think about that! (miami, Lakers, bulls and OKC ahead of them) An all Staples Center series would be the best thing ever. All the shows will be from staples, the parties, the events, etc etc etc. Huge |

Well, it's only preseason, but that was quite a shocker. Without Odom, the Lakers are solid with big men, but no longer dominant. This exposes their backcourt and puts more pressure on everyone to score and stay in shape, because they bench is not that strong. The short season might help, but the intense schedule hurts.
Clips are for real. MUCH more energy and desire than the Lakers. I can easily see them and OKC in the west. |
