Excellent panorama shots! I wanna fly in there pretty soon... the problem would be I'll fly in either via Dallas or Miami to get in there. And I want to ride on Avianca's A330.

---------------------------------------------------

Some Info about Eldorado

Bogota - Eldorado

The Bogota Eldorado International Airport is the largest airport in Colombia and that increased flow of passengers and cargo presents. His name "Eldorado" with no space between, based on the famous pre-Columbian legend, was established by Decree 2791 of 1959, although the facade is visible written as "El Dorado". In the design and construction of the airport was intimately involved General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, who since 1945, while in charge of the Office of Aeronautical Constructions War Ministry had already made plans with respect to the new airport in Bogota using their training as engineer.

Had the opportunity to carry out their plans when the plans submitted by Tippets-Abbett-Knappen-MacCarthy were rejected and ordered the work to ACE Colombian engineers, led by General Rojas Pinilla himself. Construction work began in 1956 and watched the construction of two tracks with all the technical skills to get to higher planes of his time, a line terminal building designed by Italian architect Domenico Parma and great freeway access. The size of the project at the time was considerable criticism because it thought that was oversized for the needs I had at the time, stated that the access highway (now Avenida Eldorado) was too big, and eventually decided to build the airport with a single track. The work was completed in 1959, with the airport opened on December 10 of that year, for its time was the most modern in Latin America.

On 28 May 1963 the construction was completed Air Command Military Transport CATAM (though the Colombian Air Force had almost continuous presence in Eldorado since its construction, but using the terminal building).

In the 70's (especially in 1973) there was a large increase in air operations nationally and re-think of a second runway for the airport (give reason to General Rojas Pinilla regarding the dimensions of the project initially should have been), however, the initiative was only in preliminary studies and the airport continued to operate with its single runway.

In 1981 Avianca built the airlift operations, initially for flights to its major domestic and international destinations. The 90s was full of changes for the Airport, starting in the year 1991 when he settled in the areas surrounding the Airport Center Aerocivil Aeronautical Studies (CEA) and the National Air Navigation. Air traffic had grown in numbers and priority was building a second runway to stop the growing air chaos, in the mid-90s and then began its construction was given to service in 1998. Also increased the height of the control tower without stopping operations of the airport, in a great piece of engineering. The Military Transport Air Command of the Colombian Air Force (CATAM) also had extensions and improvements in its infrastructure, access routes and capacity.

In this decade it became clear the need to expand the terminal building (described as "oversized" at the time of its construction), and to this end the national government began a tender that was won in 2006 by OPAIN consortium, made up Colombian companies supported by Unique - IDC, operator of Zurich Kloten Airport in Switzerland. For this expansion are plans to modernize existing facilities and construction of new facilities. In addition to this expanded and remodeled Avianca Airlift almost entirely, now all domestic flights of the airline depart and arrive at this terminal, international leaving the main terminal building.

Colombia's history has been reflected in the airport, which has seen some airlines have left the country due to socioeconomic status. Airlines like Lufthansa, KLM and Alitalia operated and from Eldorado at some point. Despite this fact, the airport is becoming one of the first in the continental cargo volume, and in a remarkable position on the number of passengers. Eldorado has not had an accident rate higher than any airport in its class, however, due to the presence of high hills in the takeoff path there have been some notable accidents, such as the Lockheed L-188 Electra and Aerocóndor TAME on the 727. Notable also was the visit of the Airbus A380 twice in 2007 in framework for certification testing of the Engine Alliance, the second and third visit to Colombia respectively, after the one held in January 2006 at the Airport Medellin (Rionegro) when the first tests conducted in the country.

Today it is a dynamic and ever-expanding airport with a promising future thanks to the works being carried out, and still positioned as the main port of access to and from Colombia.
