Construction of a secret bunker began in late February 1942.
By this time, Samara (Kuibyshev), which was evacuated from Moscow to the Soviet government, the party apparatus komunisticheskoy and 22 foreign embassies, was officially the capital reserve of the Soviet Union.
Stalin's Bunker in Samara - the most powerful of the now declassified bunker. Its depth - 37 meters, a height of 12-storey building. For comparison, the depth of Hitler's bunker in Berlin, was 16 meters, with Churchill in London shelter located at a depth of only two floors, with Roosevelt - two floors. Analogues of the building was not there, especially if we take into account the period of time. A giant "hole" was dug out in less than 9 months of uninterrupted round the clock work. In the bunker was an autonomous system of regeneration, and its air power. By the way, all this is still in working condition. Bunker and to this day kept sealed and is designed for full autonomy for five days. The once-secret underground multi-storey building is equipped with elevators. The lowest floor is a conference room for 115 people. Next - living room, designed to Stalin. On the upper floors - to protect the premises, warehouses and logistics services. The bunker could withstand a direct hit by the biggest aviation bombs at the time - above all this building monolithic concrete three meters thick, layer of sand and one meter long concrete "mattress."

Great thread! It's nice that they have put those tables on the buildings. I think Samara citizens are proud of being a capital in the past, aren't they?

Popov's radio station name ( Object number 15 )

Confronting Hitler's Germany and the Soviet Union began long before the Great Patriotic War (World War II). At that time, the main front of this confrontation was the front information. Capturing one European state after another, the Germans have not experienced major difficulties with the organization of broadcasting stations, they used the existing radio network. Flows of Nazi propaganda fell upon the heads of European citizens. The Soviet government, realizing the gravity of the situation of the Soviet Union, who was on the verge of war, was forced to immediately look for ways to counter Hitler's information machine.

Underground engineering building. The view from the street.

In 1939-1940, decided to build a city of Kursk, super-powerful radio transmitting station at 1200 kilowatts (at that time was enormous.) A draft, selected area. But the beginning of the war confounded the plans. Construction of the center of the transmitter was immediately relocated under the city of Kuibyshev (Samara). Already in July 1941 set a new platform under construction.

Freight entrance to the engineering building.

Based on the requirements of war was given the task to put a radio station into the ground, on top leaving only the antenna structure. Power supply cables are also conducted under the ground. Copper coaxial cables of large diameter, reaching to the antennae, too, were under the ground in a special feeder tunnel.

In the distance range of the transmitting antennas of medium range.
