Remember the boom years? When the giddy amongst us would create huge lists of what we expected/hoped for in the following year?
By the winter solstice each subforum would have it's own thread with giddiness galore. Suppose it is a sign of the times that those threads no longer get created, any way, my thoughts on what I reckon we will see in 2012. Very slow, frustrating progress with TMS, no new openings until December next year and then only to Mumps. Nothing on the Ashton line. HS2 bill will start it's way through Whitehall, but no mention of Manchester in the initial legislation. Detailed plans for Brum to Manc HS2 published in the summer. In Q3 LBG announce they are moving the north west operations to Spinningfields. Credit becomes increasingly hard to come by, beckoning a new economic reality. Large scale residential build in central areas are over, city centre developments are only business by the end of the year. Probably more, but cannot think of right now.

A major foreign bank will sign up to a 200m tower in Spinningfields, with ground being broken by end 2012.
The UK's position outside the Eurozone will bring consolidating global businesses into the UK, with Manchester the prime beneficiary. |

LNGCats and optimism don't go well together I'm afraid.
![]() Come on guys! 17 new wakefield st, co-op headquarters (and masterplan details coming about next year), Mediacity, etc etc! It's not all bad (although it is significantly worse than say, 2006.

Here my Predictions for 2012
Manchester Metrolink I think Oldham & Rochdale line will open in August 2012 with trams going a far as Shaw & Crompton and by end of 2012 testing will begin for trams going to Rochdale. I think East Manchester line will open in May 2012 but unlet as far as Velopark (Eastlands ASDA) and the possibly trams testing line to Droylsden. I also think TMS for new Metrolink line will be fix by May 2012 and whole of Metrolink system will close in mid July to beginning of Sep. Football I think Manchester City will win the Premiership on 29th April 2012 by beating Manchester United at Eastlands I also think Oldham Athletic will beat Liverpool at Anfield on 6th Jan in FA Cup third Round ![]() Oldham Athletic will also win the JPT (Johnstones Paint Trophy)by beating Swindon Town at wembley on 25th Mar 2012 .

Was not meant to be optimistic or pesimistic raher what you actually, really, honestly, think will happen.
Or won't happen.

I have a suspicion that the HS station will be over in Salford, possibly where Exchange station used to be.

If some one could post a link for last years please.
Given the tonnes of speculation on here, a new HS station at either Pomona, Salford, Mayfield or under Piccadily would not be a surprise. So I will say Longsightedness sidings or Trafford Park. Link for last year please.....

Ok come on, cheer up, things are better than that. Nobody's mentioned the most exciting thing in the city centre - the redevelopment of St Peters' Sq - this could be game changing for this part of town.
1 St P Sq will start piling in the Spring and should be well on the rise by this time next year. Work goes on to transform the Library and Town Hall together with the major makeover to the square itself. Exciting. |

Eyyyy look who was sort of on the ball! Apart from the Trafford Park hotels bit, was getting carried away by that point. Unfortunately I didnt predict that my laptop would blow up in my face some time around early December forcing me to use my phone until I save up 300 quid for a new laptop...
