Brattøra Development

The speedboat terminal at Brattøra is set to move. A new terminal building will be constructed on a pier further out in the basin, freeing up the inner part for pleasure boats and for use as a guest harbour.

A new cross connection over the railroad tracks will also be built for pedestrians to/from the Brattøra. This bridge will line up nicely to the new terminal building as shown in the bottom illustration. The plans were approved in the city council just before x-mas, so the construction work should start soon (I hope!)

Rockheim is delayed again.

Konkurs, brann, oversvømmelse
Nesten alt som kan gå galt har gått galt for bygginga av rockemuseet Rockheim.

I like how Rockheim went from a far-away, hidden museum to being one smack in the middle of everything

Also, although I too would have preferred a four-lane road, I'm in doubt if such a road could actually fit along the current route. Most likely they would have had to bury the whole road underground.

Looks like the Brattøra part will be more like an urban street than road

Which would have been a lot better if you ask me. There should have been a tunnel all the way from Pirbrua to Ila.

There isn't much room in Ila either, so it would mean a tunnel the whole route.

Just a very old plan of brattøra, where they build over all the railroad tracks.

It obviously won't look like this, but when they finally move the rail terminal it will free up quite a bit of land for development. I hope they don't throw it away with cheap and bland architecture.

Just a few renderings of A-lab's proposal for the new Central Station with Tverrforbindelsen.

Its because there are no detailed plans for this yet, even though the hotel is planned to be completed by 2012. But Pir2 won the competition in 2006 designing the new station. It will be 100 000m2 large and have a price on 2 billion NOK. My guess is construction 2015+. The 20fl tall tower is still in the plan and is suppose to be a landmark tower. I doubt something like that will ever get built though.

Different concepts for the Fosenkaia hotel.

The three different proposals for Brattøra.

It was of course the third one who won, the worst proposal.

Since Clarion Hotel was delayed by three years we now have to wait to its finished in 2012 before they can start construction on the plots between Rockheim and Tverrforbindelsen. All the parking space to Pirbadet and Pirterminalen was located on Clarion Hotel site, and the only place to move the parking temporary was of course to Brattørkaia.

Kinda funny, since Clarion Hotel was rejected in 2007, then redesigned, then rejected again, then the developer threatened to cancel the project, which gave the politicians such a headache they approved the original proposal! Three years for this gain: Clarion Hotel delayed, paying millions in worthless redesigns and planning, entire Brattørkaia delayed... yay!

So we just have to wait to they have made parkings!

Goddamn... useless politicians in this town obstructing development wherever and whenever they can! That being said, it still sounds weird that start construction of the Brattørkaia plots have to wait until the hotel is finished. Surely the parking garage will be completed long before the rest of the hotel, and surely there must anyway be other places to park if this is deemed absolutely necessary (which i think it doesn't ought to be). It's unbelievable if the reservation of the plot for a parking lot is what should put this construction on hold for 2 years.
