It was approved by "kommunen" already back last spring, so it has taken its time... like everything else in this town I could wish for more heights of course - as always! I hope the new train terminal building will be a bit more "grand" than the old one, especially i think these type of buildings should have a considerable height under the ceiling. The old one feels really cramped and cheapish. I find it a bit strange too that in the renderings the terminal building is slim rectangular, with the short end towards the tracks. It's not detailed enough renderings to really tell how it will work though.I like the connection bridge, and integrated heating cables is brilliant! That's something I'd like to see much more of in the walking streets and pavements around town.

The illustrations look really good. Got a miniature Barcode feel from them.
The area could IMO sure benefit from some attention as well. I've been to Trondheim several times but never been back there. I somehow felt it was only water behind the train station. |

That thought has crossed my mind as well.

It looks nice in the illustrations indeed. I guess much depends though on the detailed architecture on the buildings. One thing I am not too happy about though, is that it is planned as commerce buildings exclusively. In other words, no apartments, and no public functions on the ground floor. This means that the "bryggekant" along this stretch will be quite dead outside office hours.
During summertime, the pleasure boat harbour will generate some life though. Only too bad that the people will not get be able to get a single outdoor beer any place nearby.

The rightmost building: Inspired by the wonderful Obos Hq here in Oslo?
![]() Nice plan otherwise though. The buildings aren't designed yet, right? Of course with the exception of Rockheim.

Haha.. that one is already built actually, and it's only 8 floors, so a bit lower than the Oslo OBOS bldg. I think it's not too bad, it has some sort of frosty glass in between the stories, and continuous glass windows, so its nicer than the one in Oslo

The new hotel will most likely have a restaurant at ground level towards the water and the sunconditions will be quite good on that side.

Not the worlds biggest achievement either. Still it looks reasonable pretty in the picture I posted compare to how it feels when you stand by it.

But to answer your question, yes, only Rockheim and "Obos" is completed, the rest has been turned into a giant parking lot since Brattørkaia is delayed. The reason why its delayed is because they rejected Clarion Hotel Trondheim 3 times (due to the height, 8 floor was way too tall), resulting in a 3 year delay. Clarion Hotel Trondheim is been built on top of the parking garages of Pirbadet and Pir-terminalen (express boats). So they had to tear down the parking garage last year when Clarion started construction. So then they moved the parking lots to Brattørkaia. Now we just have to wait to Clarion and the new parking garage is completed in 2012. Hopefully, construction will commence a month after the parking is moved back again, but i bet it will take much longer than that! |

What will happen to the old Pirterminalen (in the background)? I might be alone in this, but I think it is a nice building.

old Pirterminalen will stand as before. Its a beautiful building, but it will look very misplaced between Clarion and Pirbadet.

I like it too! It has nice details and a good "solid" look. I dont think that it will look misplaced between Pirbadet and the congress hotel, it just shows variety.

Well, they're of course dependent on office space demands in the market. To me (i am not a market analyst though) it looks like it's quite a lot of vacancy in town for the time being. Hopefully the economy picks up and build up the needs for it quickly.

Brattørkaia new homepage
The new Brattørkaia homepage is up and running here:
http://www.brattorkaia.no/ On the positive side, the first building to be built (no 15A/B) is almost sold out for floor space with only 4,000 m2 vacant out of 20,000 m2 total. On the negative side of course, as I've stated before about this project, it's just plain shortsighted to build these buildings without public functions on the ground floor . And I don't understand why the city council allows it either; all the time they've massively criticized the lack of it on f.ex the "Gjensidige" building on Nedre Elvehavn, and called it a big mistake.
