Biblioteca (1735-1740) by Pietro Piffetti (1701-1770), once in Villa Madama, Turin, since 1879 in Palazzo del Quirinale, Rome.

Piedmontese Interior Architecture, although not in Piedmont anymore.

I'm italian and I'm excited by Piffetti and his Biblioteca. I know very well this great artist and some days ago I saw the temporary exposure dedicated to this genius here in Turin. But I never see this beautiful thing. Piffetti had a unique style to use precious wood, turtle, motherpearl, ivory; sometimes he used to do some trompe l'oeil in his works. I see this here. And I see also some massonery symbols: this is strange.

Compass, square and ruler are represented matched to the maps of the fortresses of Pizzighettone (the bigger one) and Guastalla (the smaller one): they show the siege of Pizzighettone(1733) and the Battle of Guastalla (1734), during the War of the Polish Succession, at the end of which the House of savoy obtained the Crown of the Kingdom of Sardinia.

Not a matter of Masonry - a matter of Ballistic in fact.

Novi Ligure.

Piazza delle Piane. As the name clearly shows, Novi Ligure is a corner of Liguria annexed to Piedmont as late as 1815, thanks to the Congress of Vienna.

Hence the typical Genoese Baroque architecture, quite distinctive from Piedmontese Baroque Style.

The Mole Antonelliana is a late-neoclassic squared dome with a spire atop, built around 1864-1890, height mt. 167.

Almost eveything else is Baroque.

Beautiful additions to this thread - one of my favorites.

Good to see you positing here again Normy.
