YUP, EAAB(Edwin Andrew Airbase is also located at the left side of the airport. It is where the US, Russian, and Philippines military planes land. hehehe, the biggest aircraft landed in ZIA is the Russian Atonov aircraft and the USAF C130 (the biggest one with 4 engines.) Its also houses the EVERGREEN Inc. they have 3 helicopters and 2 aircrafts. There are also owned small aircrafts in ZIA.

too bad the govt didn't get the loan approved to tranfer the zamboanga airport to mercedes. hope they will try again to get a loan . hope celso lobregat the mayor of zamboanga will get motivated to get the funds for a new airport since the airport will be rename to his late mother.. it would be so nice to have a new airport in zamboanga like they have in iloilo.

I agree. I like the architecture of the Zambo Terminal. What if there's a fusion of the traditional "Moro-Lumad" theme of the terminal plus new design. Leave it to the architects, hopefully they would also show the cultura of Zamboanga and Mindanao in the new terminal.

In other words, the fusion of traditional and post-modern.

i think so....i agree that the zia architecture is unique and is reflective of filipino culture.....although it is small...it needs to be moved to another location...a bigger ang wider zia...its good to know na meron na palang flights to jolo....tawi-tawi...and sandakan...from zia....the last time i went to tawi-tawi in 2000 via zamboanga...it was by boat...left zambo at 6pm arrived tawi-tawi around 6am...if we could develop that southern part of the philippines that will be good for tourism....maalis lang yung mga magugulo dyan..

I hope that the new international airport will be in sacol island. Para madevelop naman ang Harina Blanco at Mampang area. This place become the heaven for smuglers kaya kung diyan itatayo ang new airport, peace will come.
Tambien yo mas favor kay cerca lang connel de amon casa na talon talon. Necicita, el camino del Talon-Talon y Sta. Catalina hace 4 lanes.

funds for a new airport in zamboanga worth about $150m was cancelled recently. i think it will take 10 yrs when we hear about the tranfer of the airport to mercedes again.

hope the next president will make building a new airport for zamboanga a priority. we will not get it from gma because the people of zamboanga didn't vote for her. thats why zamboanga is getting crappy funding from the national gov't

FYI the Largest aircraft that landed in ZIA is USAF Boeing C-17,Antonov An-24 was just a propeller-plane

Ese ya! Mismo yo queda ya viejo ta espera si cuando comensar el construcion. Nuay pa siempre comensar el construction el nuevo aero puerto mas de 15 anios pasado. Antes ya acorda yo kay por eso ya hace nuevo terminal kay el antes terminal ya quebra con el bomba. Cosa ya se!, el necicita del todo Zamboanguenio tiene polido plano el gobierno y sinceridad para poner pondo y prensipya ya el construction. No mas necicita puro ya lang plano y papel.

The reason in fact why ZAM is not getting new airport anytime soon is that, the government felt that ZAM is still into what it calls an upstandard among the airports in PI. You must remember that along with Mactan,Laoag,Davao and NAIA. ZAM was made to become one of this nation's major airport in the 70's. Thus it's current runway and facilities standards are still for an international airport. IMO though ZAM does not need a new airport just yet. What they need is to separate a the new military operations within ZAM to another field. opening the way for more spaces in ZAM. There are just besically few things I wanted for ZAM

1)runway resurfacing ( i dont think it need to be extended since it can handle C-17's right?)
2)construction of a taxiway
3)contruciton of separate cargo and export processing terminal
4)a terminal with 4 aerobridges and six remote parking stands for smaller regional aircraft that plies ZAM,SUL,TWI routes.
5) proper parking and retail facilities
6) upgrade of airport support systems like ILS,ATC systems and emergency responce units
