Lyon metro can become very busy at rush hours.
Not necessarily what you may expect in the subway of a medium sized city like Lyon.

Line D trains are undersized while platforms were built for 4 cars train, the trains are only two cars long.

If Lyon Metro could become busy, authorities need for new or extended trains. How much money should city spend on buying each 4-car train? The cost is allows to better understand the problems

Around 250 millions euros for this line (on photo by Minato Ku) and also 250 millions euros for other lines.

Lyon metro is among the 10 first for average ridership / km, with too short trains ...

Yes, it's expansive. Lyon has not enough money to buy this trains before 2020/2025 and needs also new buses, more tram cars ...

ENS Lyon and Halle Tony Garnier
Two stations of the new extension that will open on February 19.

ENS Lyon
This stop has an island platform due to the lack of space

After this station, the line will use the new Raymon Barre bridge to cross the Rhone river and reach Musée des Confluences and Hôtel de Région - Montrochet the current southern terminal stop.

We did not mention it, but the president of Grand Lyon said there will be studies for a 5th metro line in the 5th district of Lyon.

Today is opening of the new tram extension - from Meyzieu Z.I. to Meyzieu Les Panettes on line 3 and at the same time SYTRAl launched public inquiry on T3 improvements, which include (as far I understood from text):
  • T3 separation from Jonage to Decines
  • Building new tram terminus near future Grand Stade
  • T3 separation at Meyzieu Z.I., allowing better T3 services to Meyzieu Les Panettes
  • Improves tram & Rhoneexpress platforms at Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie
  • Creation of Gare Part-Dieu Sud stop
  • Safety improvements on level crossings

These aims were taken from SYTRAL's website in French, correct me if I was wrong with translations

Here is map of study:
