Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre will host a number of new MICE events next year with a focus on specialised trade fairs, meeting and world congress has never been held in Thailand.


Sarnit Karunyavanij, business development director of Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre, said that during the first six months, in January it will start with a consumer fair of Thailand Game Show 2012, the only fair for all true gamers under the concept "The New Land". This will be followed by the 1st Horti Asia 2012, the International Tradeshow for Horticultural and Floricultural Production and Processing Technology in May.

In the second half, Fastener Fair 2012, the International Exhibition for the Fastener and Fixings Industry, would be staged for first time in Thailand in September 2012. The last new conference is The Asia-Pacific Veterinary Conference (APVC 2012) & The Asia-Pacific Animal Health Summit & Expo, which will be held in October.

Sarnit said that Bitec is now the first venue for the MICE industry in Thailand that offers webcasting service which distributes live with broadcasting audio and video over the internet all around the world to unlimited number of viewers. The service was first available at METALEX 2011 which took place during December 21-24.

"This is an alternative for customers who would like to publish information in the real atmosphere of the event as well as reduce the cost of transportation and save time," he said.

Australia has shown interest in Thailand's solar power development, seeing the possibility of welcoming Thai investment to Australia, which is known as the land with the world's highest solar power concentration.


According to Krairit Nilkuha, director-general of the Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency Development, who recently had a discussion with Australian Ambassador James Wise and five Australian Members of Parliament led by Sid Side Bottom, the discussion also focused on algae-based fuel research and development as well as carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. Thai researchers could be invited to join Australia's attempts to turn algae into fuel and CCS. Australia is the only country in the world which enforces a law to support CCS technology, and a research institute has been set up.

During the discussion, they also exchanged views on alternative energy plans in both countries. Under the Australian Green Energy Act, it aims to increase alternative energy to 20 per cent of consumption in 2020. Thailand also aims to increase the portion to 25 per cent within 10 years.

Big dip likely in Q4 exports to China

Thailand's exports to China in the final quarter of this year are expected to show a substantial decline from the 62.8-per-cent year-on-year growth achieved in the third quarter, because of a high base from last year and more lacklustre demand in China amid the slowing global economy, Kasikorn Research Centre reports.

The shortfall in exports to China has also been exacerbated by the recent flooding in Thailand that inhibited manufacturing output.

Given this, exports to China in 2011 will probably grow only 27-30 per cent, down from the 33.2-per-cent growth recorded in 2010. Likewise, Thai imports from China may decelerate to just 28-per-cent growth, versus the 42.3 per cent seen in 2010. As a result, Thailand will continue to sustain a trade deficit with China of perhaps US$3 billion (Bt95 billion) this year.

In 2012, bilateral trade between Thailand and China will face several challenges. KResearch expects a more modest growth rate of 15 per cent or less, in line with the slowing Chinese economy.

ผลวิจัยจุฬาเผยภาษาไทย"บูม"รับประชาคมอาเซียน เพื่อนบ้านแห่เรียน

นายสมพงษ์ จิตระดับ อาจารย์คณะครุศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เปิดเผยว่า ตามที่ประเทศไทยกำลังจะเข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียน ในปี 2558 ทำให้คนส่วนมากมักเข้าใจว่าภาษาอังกฤษจะเป็นภาษาที่สำคัญ และเร่งเตรียมความพร้อมบุคลากร เพื่อรองรับการเข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียน แต่จากงานวิจัยเรื่อง "การเตรียมบุคลากรเพื่อรองรับการเปิดตลาดอาเซียน" ของจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย พบว่าภาษาไทยจะมีความสำคัญในการสื่อสารและการมีงานทำ และจะเป็นภาษากลางของกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียนเท่าเทียมกับภาษาอังกฤษ เพราะต่อไปประเทศไทยจะถือเป็นศูนย์กลางของอาเซียน มีการเปิดเสรีการศึกษา ขณะเดียวกันงานวิจัยยังพบว่า ประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน เช่น สาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาว(สปปล.) เขมร พม่า สนใจมาเรียนภาษาไทยมากขึ้น

นายสมพงษ์กล่าวว่า สิ่งที่กำลังจะเกิดขึ้นคือ ประเทศไทยจะเปลี่ยนจากระบบอุตสาหกรรมขยะคือ อุตสาหกรรมที่ผลิตพลาสติก มาเป็นอุตสาหกรรมสะอาดดูแลสิ่งแวดล้อมมากขึ้น เท่ากับเป็นการยกระดับแรงงาน และอุตสาหกรรมของประเทศ ดังนั้น สิ่งที่ควรเตรียมพร้อมคือ เตรียมส่งออกครูภาษาไทย ครูช่าง รวมถึงสิ่งที่เป็นจุดเด่นของประเทศไทย เพื่อใช้เป็นจุดแข็งสำหรับสอนชาวต่างชาติ สิ่งที่เป็นจุดแข็งของประเทศไทยคือ ภาคเอกชน ดังจะเห็นได้ว่าทุกวันนี้มีสินค้าไทยวางจำหน่ายอยู่ในทุกประเทศ ส่วนจุดอ่อนที่สุดของไทยคือ เรื่องการเมือง ปัญหากระทบกระทั่งกับประเทศเพื่อนบ้านบริเวณชายแดน และการเปิดประเทศอาเซียน จะเป็นแรงส่งที่จะทำให้เกิดการยกเครื่องการปฏิรูปการศึกษาอย่างเป็นระบบมากขึ้น

อาจารย์ครุศาสตร์ จุฬาฯ กล่าวอีกว่า สำหรับผลกระทบด้านสังคมนั้น ในปี 2558 จะมีประชากรทะลักเข้าประเทศไทยจำนวนมาก หลากหลายชาติพันธุ์ สิ่งที่ตามมาคือ ปัญหายาเสพติดทะลักเข้าประเทศมากขึ้น รวมถึงกระบวนการค้ามนุษย์ ปัญหาอาชญากรรม และที่สำคัญคือจำนวนประชากรเพิ่มขึ้น เกิดปัญหาการแย่งงานทำ ทำให้อัตราการว่างงานเพิ่มขึ้น

"โดยเฉพาะแรงงานระดับล่าง และปัญหาสังคมที่จะตามมาก็คือ ปัญหาการศึกษา เช่น ระดับปฐมวัย เพราะหากพ่อแม่เข้ามาทำงานในประเทศไทย ลูกก็ต้องตามมาด้วย ปัญหาสังคมที่เกิดขึ้นทั้งหมดนี้ จะเกิดขึ้นในช่วง 2-3 ปีแรกแรกที่ไทยเข้าสู่ประชาคอาเซียน หากเราสามารถควบคุมและแก้ปัญหาได้ ในระยะยาวจะเป็นไปในทิศทางที่ดี แต่ประเด็นที่สำคัญคือ ขณะนี้คนไทยส่วนใหญ่ยังไม่รู้ว่าไทยกำลังจะเข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียน และยังไม่เห็นความสำคัญของเรื่องนี้" นายสมพงษ์กล่าว

ด้านนายพินิติ รตะนานุกูล รองเลขาธิการคณะกรรมการการอุดมศึกษา (กกอ.) กล่าวว่า ขณะนี้ตัวเลขครูภาษาไทย และจำนวนนักศึกษาที่กำลังเรียนในคณะครุศาสตร์ศึกษาศาสตร์ วิชาเอกภาษาไทย ถือว่ามีไม่น้อย แต่ยังไม่ได้พูดถึงเรื่องคุณภาพว่ามากน้อยขนาดไหน อย่างไรก็ตาม สำหรับสาขาที่มีปัญหาขาดแคลนครูจริงๆ ยังเป็นสาขาวิชาหลัก เช่น คณิตศาสตร์ ฟิสิกส์ เคมี และชีววิทยา


นายพินิติกล่าวว่า ส่ยังมีนักเรียนนักศึกษาอีกจำนวนมากที่มีความรู้เกี่ยวกับการเข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียนเพียงผิวเผิน ยังไม่รู้ว่าเมื่อไทยเข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียนแล้ว ต้องปรับตัวอย่างไรกับสภาพสังคมที่มีวัฒนธรรมต่างๆ หลากหลายเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้อง ในระดับนโยบายจะต้องเร่งสร้างความเข้าใจ รวมถึงกระตุ้นให้ประชาชนตระหนักถึงการเตรียมความพร้อมในอีก 3 ปีข้างหน้า โดยโครงการปีการพูดภาษาอังกฤษ 2012( English Speaking Year 2012) ส่งเสริมให้นักเรียนรวมถึงข้าราชการพูดภาษาอังกฤษ น่าจะสามารถกระตุ้นความสนใจได้ส่วนหนึ่ง สำหรับระดับอุดมศึกษานั้น มีการแลกเปลี่ยนอาจารย์และนักศึกษาเพื่อเพิ่มพูนความรู้ระหว่างกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียน ในส่วนของสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการอุดมศึกษา (สกอ.) ได้รับงบประมาณจำนวน 10 ล้านบาท เพื่อใช้ในโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนดังกล่าว

"สิ่งที่สำคัญคือ ต่อไปประเทศไทยจะต้องมองในภาพรวม ระดับนโยบายต้องมีโครงการหรือมาตรการสำคัญๆ เพื่อกระตุ้นให้คนไทยเกิดการปรับตัวพร้อมเข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียน เพราะเราจะต้องอยู่ในสังคมที่หลากหลายวัฒนธรรม ขณะเดียวกันต้องมีทักษะในการแก้ปัญหาเฉพาะหน้า รวมถึงพัฒนาการทำงานให้มีทักษะรอบด้าน ไม่ใช่ทำเฉพาะหน้าที่หลักของตัวเองได้เท่านั้น" นายพินิติกล่าว

สำหรับทีมาของสมาคมประชาชาติแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ (Association of South East Asian Nations: ASEAN) หรือ “อาเซียน” เป็นองค์การทางภูมิรัฐศาสตร์และองค์การความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจในภูมิภาคเอเซียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ มีประเทศสมาชิกทั้งหมด10 ประเทศ ได้แก่ ไทย มาเลเซีย ฟิลิปปินส์ อินโดนีเซีย สิงคโปร์ บรูไน ลาว กัมพูชา เวียดนาม และพม่า อาเซียนมีพื้นที่ราว 4.4ล้านตารางกิโลเมตร มีประชากรราว 590ล้านคน ในปี 2553 ผลิตภัณฑ์มวลรวม (จีดีพี) ของชาติสมาชิกรวมกันคิดเป็นมูลค่าราว 1.8 ล้านล้านดอลล่าร์สหรัฐอเมริกา อยู่ในลำดับที่ 9 ของโลก เมื่อเรียงตามผลิตภัณฑ์มวลรวม มีภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาทางการของอาเซียน

สำหรับกฎบัตรอาเซียนมีการลงนามเมื่อเดือนธันวาคม 2551ทำให้อาเซียนมีสถานะคล้ายกับสหภาพยุโรปหรืออียูมากยิ่งขึ้น เขตการค้าเสรีอาเซียนเริ่มประกาศเมื่อต้นปี 2553และกำลังก้าวสู่ความเป็นประชาคมอาเซียน ในปี 2558

ทั้งนี้อาเซียนกำหนดวิสัยทัศน์ไว้ว่า ภายในปี2563อาเซียนจะบรรลุใน4เป้าหมายด้วยกัน ได้แก่1.วงสมานฉันท์แห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้(A Concert of Southeast Asian Nations) 2. หุ้นส่วนเพื่อการพัฒนาอย่างมีพลวัต (A Partnership in Dynamic Development) 3. มุ่งปฏิสัมพันธ์กับประเทศภายนอก (An Outward-Looking ASEAN) 4. ชุมชนแห่งสังคมที่เอื้ออาทร (A Community of Caring Societies)

ส่งออกอาหาร-นวดไทย-สปา เสิร์ฟบนเรือสำราญอิตาลี

พาณิชย์ปิ๊งไอเดีย เตรียมส่งออกอาหาร-นวดไทย-สปาไทย เสิร์ฟบนเรือสำราญอิตาลี หลังพบลู่ทางดี แต่ยังไม่มีสินค้า-บริการไทยบนเรือ

นายศิริวัฒน์ ขจรประศาสน์ รมช.พาณิชย์ เปิดเผยว่า ได้มอบหมายให้กรมส่งเสริมการส่งออกผลักดันการส่งออกสินค้าและธุรกิจบริการของไทยบนเรือสำราญของอิตาลี เพราะมีลู่ทางที่จะผลักดันได้ เนื่องจากปัจจุบัน ชาวอิตาเลียนนิยมท่องเที่ยวโดยเรือสำราญมาก มีการเปิดเส้นทางใหม่ และจัดแพ็กเก็จใหม่ๆ มากมาย ทำให้อุตสาหกรรมท่องเที่ยวโดยเรือสำราญเติบโตขึ้นทุกปี มีเงินสะพัดมากกว่า 1,500 ล้านยูโรต่อปี แต่ยังไม่มีการเปิดให้บริการร้านอาหารไทย หรือนวด หรือสปาไทย จึงถือว่าเป็นโอกาสดีที่จะเปิดตลาดสินค้าและบริการไทย

นอกจากนี้ สินค้าไทยที่ยังมีโอกาสส่งออกไปบนเรือสำราญ เช่น อัญมณีและเครื่องประดับ เครื่องปรับอากาศ ปลาหมึกสดแช่แข็ง เครื่องนุ่งห่ม อุปกรณ์ตกแต่งภายใน อุปกรณ์บนโต๊ะอาหาร เครื่องใช้ในห้องน้ำ เป็นต้น

ด้านนางนันทวัลย์ ศกุนตนาค อธิบดีกรมส่งเสริมการส่งออก กล่าวว่า การส่งออกสินค้าไทยเพื่อจัดจำหน่ายแก่บริษัทท่องเที่ยวโดยเรือสำราญ สามารถทำได้ทั้งทางตรงและทางอ้อม โดยทางตรงนั้นสามารถจำหน่ายสินค้ากับบริษัทเดินเรือโดยตรงเพื่อจัดจำหน่ายบนเรือ หรือแปรรูปบนเรือ เช่น อาหาร เครื่องดื่ม หรือจัดจำหน่ายทางอ้อม โดยการส่งออกสินค้าแก่ผู้รับเหมาที่เป็นผู้จัดจำหน่ายให้แก่บริษัทท่องเที่ยวโดยเรือสำราญ เช่น สินค้าตกแต่งภายในบ้าน และบริษัทซ่อมบำรุง

Saha Group, Thai President Foods mull power plant, noodle factory in Burma

Boonsithi and Pipat are seeking locations both in Rangoon and Mandalay for their integrated facilities. The biogas power plant will be handled by Saha's subsidiary Sahacogen, which will produce electricity for sale to the Burmese government. The water produced by the power plant will be delivered to the noodle factory for use in its production process.

Pipat said Thai President Foods already had an instant-noodle factory in Rangoon, which has been operating for about 10 years and is now running at full capacity of about 30,000 cases per month. With the second factory, the company would be able to double production of its instant noodles in Burma, which will serve not only the market there but also India. The expansion overseas is part of the company's strategy to prepare for tougher competition in the Thai instant-noodle market when the Asean Economic Community goes into full effect in 2015 and lets foreign rivals come in.

"With the government's regulation set to prohibit the import of palm oil, we, as one of the local instant-noodle producers, will face difficulty in competing with foreign rivals, which will have a cost advantage," he said.

The instant-noodle market is becoming saturated, with more than 39 packs per head per year in consumption. That is close to many developed markets such as Japan and Taiwan, which annually consume about 40 packs per head on average, he said.

This year the company will focus more on increasing the sales of cup noodles, which are now only 10 per cent of its instant-noodle portfolio.

"We will launch innovative products with superior quality and prices," Pipat said.

The company also plans to expand its instant-noodle business into more markets abroad, starting with exports and then setting up factories when the markets are ready. The firm hopes to increase its exports from the Bt1.7 billion expected for last year to about Bt2 billion this year.

"We are now shipping instant noodles to 50 markets around the world. We have already set up factories in Cambodia and Burma. We will also open a noodle factory, costing about Bt100 million, in Bangladesh in March or April to avoid the high import duty, which is 60 per cent," he said.

Thai President Foods will hold 55 per cent of the factory, while 10 per cent will be owned by Saha Pathanapibul and the rest by the local trading partner in Bangladesh.

Locally, the company will invest Bt500 million in a flour mill in Rayong with capacity of about 300 tonnes per day when it starts operating in 2013, Pipat said. Thai President Foods will hold the majority 60-per-cent stake in the mill, while 30 per cent will be held by Kerry Flour Mills and 10 per cent by President Bakery.

Thai President Foods expects Bt10 billion in sales this year, including exports, up from about Bt9 billion in 2011. Its domestic instant-noodle sales grew by 12 per cent last year.

PTT sees high potential in Cambodia

PTT is interested in investing in both upstream and downstream operations in Cambodia if the country is found to have considerable deposits of natural gas, said an executive of the firm.


Nuttachat Charunchinda, PTT's chief operating officer for downstream petroleum business, said recently that Cambodia has potential in the energy business.

Nuttachat was part of a delegation that visited Cambodia with Energy Minister Pichai Naripthaphan last month.

The executive added that PTT has yet to make a concrete plan on the matter. Its commitment to investing in Cambodia will depend on whether PTTEP, the group's exploration arm, finds sufficient amount of gas there, Nuttachat said. PTTEP has yet to conduct any exploration activities there.

Egat International is also reportedly interested in investing in producing electricity in Cambodia.

Nuttachat said PTT has expressed an interest in investing in the country to the Cambodian government and it is waiting to see what kind of opportunities exist. He added that the firm's plans for Cambodia would get clearer in the middle of this year.

PTT will also expand its retail business in Cambodia to 40 petrol stations within four or five years, from just a few stations at present, he said.

LA Bicycle seeking JV in India

LA Bicycle (Thailand), a leader in the Kingdom's bike market, expects to build a new plant in India this year after spending more than Bt100 million on a production line for its E-Ride electric bicycles in this country.

Chief executive officer Surasith Tiyavacharapong said yesterday that the company was in talks with a local partner in India. It will enter the Indian market via a joint venture in which it will hold 51 per cent and the local partner the rest.

"India is a high-potential market for us because of its large population. Output at the factory there will focus on both the domestic and foreign markets," he said.

The factory in India will have a capacity of about 30,000-50,000 units per year, targeting the mass-market segment. However, he declined to give more details about the size of the investment.

In addition, Surasith said the company was negotiating with a Taiwanese partner to penetrate the bicycle market in mainland China.

"We're thinking of which way and in which form to do marketing in China," he said, adding: "We have to make customers over there understand how LA is different from other brands in China."

The LA brand has been a leader in the mass-market bicycle business in Thailand and neighbouring countries such as Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. LA bicycles account for an average of 75 per cent of this market.

Under its three-year business plan, Surasith said the company aimed to be the market leader in Asia in 2015, buoyed by sales from all segments. Apart from the mainstream segment, LA has tried to expand such other segments as high-performance bikes, priced from Bt9,000 to more than Bt100,000 per unit, and the technological segment, featuring electrically powered bicycles.

He expects the LA E-Ride, which costs Bt25,000-Bt26,000 per unit, will push sales revenue to Bt4 billion this year. The E-Ride fits into both the bicycle and scooter segments. The company has registered its trademark and patent for the lithium-battery-powered E-Ride in a number of countries in Europe and Asia.

Surasith said the company would export the first set of 10,000 electric bicycles under an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) contract to Japan this year.

"We target sales of 10,000 electric bicycles totalling Bt500 million this year, aiming at the both domestic and foreign market at 50:50," he said.

The company's major export markets are Britain at 60-65 per cent, Germany at 20 per cent, and France, the Netherlands, Italy and Austria with the rest.

Excluding the electric-bike segment, LA Bicycle (Thailand) has total output of 200,000 units a year. Surasith said sales revenue from the non-electrical segment would grow by 20 per cent this year via 70 LA shops nationwide.

นางพิมลวรรณ มหัจฉริยวงศ์ ผู้ช่วยกรรมการผู้จัดการ บริษัท ศูนย์วิจัยกสิกรไทย เปิดเผยว่า สัดส่วนการลงทุนโดยจากต่างประเทศ (FDI) ที่เข้ามาในไทยปัจจุบัน ปรับลดลงไปมาก โดยปี 2554 อยู่ที่ 21% เทียบกับในช่วงปี 2548-2553 ซึ่งอยู่ที่ 30% และเป็นอันดับ 1 ในภูมิภาคเอเชีย โดยในปี 2554 ความน่าสนใจการลงทุนตกเป็นของประเทศอินโดนิเซีย ซึ่งสัดส่วนเพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 23% สูงขึ้นอย่างมากเมื่อเทียบกับช่วงปี 2548-2553 โดยอยู่ที่ 15% เนื่องจากเสถียรภาพในหลายด้านดีกว่า

Kingdom pushes for regional furniture cluster

Thailand has proposed the establishment of a regional furniture industry cluster to enhance the efficiency, productivity and competitiveness of Asean manufacturers ahead of the launch of the Asean Economic Community (AEC), said Dhanakorn Kasetrsuwan, vice chairman of the Asean Furniture Industries Council (AFIC).

Speaking after the annual meeting of the seven-member AFIC, Dhanakorn said that forming a cluster would require furniture manufacturers in Asean to share information on global raw-material sources, for example, to keep costs competitive. Doing so would enhance productivity and production efficiency, he said.

He said the idea would benefit all members; however, some manufacturers consider raw-material sources and certain kinds of production information to be confidential. Thus, it is uncertain whether the idea could be realised before the implementation of the AEC in 2015.

Within Thailand, furniture manufacturers have been trying for several years to establish such an information-sharing system.


"Once the Asean countries become a single market in 2015, this region will be more open to flows of funds, information and labour. I believe that if [Asean furniture manufacturers] can collaborate … the total trading value of the furniture industry in this region will grow," he said.

The members of AFIC are Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Burma, Indonesia and the Philippines. Vietnam is the group's largest exporter, with export value of US$3.9 billion (Bt123.24 billion) in 2011. Thailand ranks fourth with expected sales of not less than $1.1 billion in 2011. Thailand recorded sales of $880 million during the first nine months of last year.


The five biggest export markets for Thailand are Japan, the US, the UK, Australia and Germany.

Despite increasing competition from China, Thailand's furniture exports to the country continue to grow. They were worth $42.8 million in 2009; $60 million in 2010; and $73 million in the first nine months of 2011.

PTTEP eyes LNG blocks with existing PTT deals

The strategy of PTT Exploration and Production this year is to invest in liquefied natural gas blocks that have sales contracts with its parent PTT, which is part of its mergers and acquisitions plan. It expects to secure at least one LNG block this year.

M&A is not included in PTTEP's investment budget of Bt150 billion this year. That budget is for expanding the production capacity of its existing blocks, continuing the feasibility study for the floating liquefied natural gas project in Australia, and exploring new blocks under concessions in many locations, including Burma.

The company will sell some of its shares in concessions for deepwater petroleum blocks in the Andaman Sea and in Indonesia to other companies with expertise in this kind of E&P in order to avoid risk from a field that the company is not familiar with.

Anon Sirisaengtaksin, president and CEO, recently said PTTEP would follow PTT to negotiate with LNG owners that PTT is dealing with for LNG contracts. The company is targeting shares in LNG projects from which PTT has to purchase gas in order to have a business advantage.
"Every company that PTT deals with for LNG contracts, PTTEP will negotiate to acquire a stake in that firm. This is our strategy to grow from M&A deals. There are some that we're in the process of negotiating. We expect to accomplish at least one deal this year," he said.
PTT has to import LNG to serve domestic demand. The import proportion of LNG is increasing every year.

Anon did not reveal the M&A budget for the LNG blocks it expects this year.
PTTEP was continuing its collaboration with Statoil, Norway's national oil company, to seek opportunities to develop petroleum projects in locations such as South America and Africa, which may lead to new E&P projects or M&A deals. The company is also smoothing the way for Statoil to enter E&P projects in Asia. It is possible for both companies to cooperate in petroleum E&P in this region.

PTTEP owns three blocks in the Andaman Sea off Thailand. It is in talks with some E&P companies with expertise in this field, including Royal Dutch Shell. It expects to find partners for all its deep-water petroleum exploration projects this year.
"The proceeds from selling stakes in these projects is not a significant amount. The benefit for us is to avoid risk from the exploration of deepwater blocks that we don't have much expertise in, and to reduce the exploration cost," he said.

Of the Bt150-billion invest-ment budget this year, Bt100 bil-lion will go for E&P in existing |projects, which is higher than |nearly Bt100 billion last year. The company's five-year investment spending is set at Bt600 billion, of which Bt350 billion is capital expenditure. PTTEP targets to produce 290,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2012, an increase of 8 per cent from about 265,000 boed in 2011.

The Bongkot South field will start feeding gas in March, while the Montara project in Australia, after a fire accident two years ago, will resume operation in either the second or third quarter of this year.The company was waiting for the exploration results for Block M3, one of the petroleum blocks that was awarded to it by the Burmese government under concession. It is expected to produce good quality gas that can be fed to petrochemical plants. If the result is good, Burma might invest in the gas separation plant and gas-fired power plants. The company expects to verify the quality of gas from the block this year.

FTA talks finally approach finish line

Thailand and India hope to seal pact by March as part of a series of new cooperative ventures.

After eight agonising years of negotiations, Thailand and India hope to conclude talks on a wide-ranging free trade agreement (FTA) by March, according to Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul.

The bilateral pact on goods will be more liberal than the Asean-India FTA, Mr Surapong said during his recent two-day visit to India.

"The FTA is expected to provide great benefits in areas of trade, services and investments," he said, adding that issues such as market access can be more openly discussed through bilateral negotiations.

Thailand and India for nearly six years have had limited free trade in 82 categories, recently increased to 83, under the "early harvest" programme, which has helped double bilateral trade value over the period.

Mr Surapong was in New Delhi recently to attend the sixth meeting of Thai-Indian Joint Commission after a lull of almost four years. Taking part were representatives of both countries' ministries of foreign affairs, energy, natural resources and environment, commerce and labour, and security officials. Heading the Indian side was External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna.

"We had launched our bilateral and regional FTA talks in 2003," said Mr Surapong. "At that time we had very little experience in negotiations for FTAs. Over the years, our expertise has grown and so it is appropriate for us to start the agreements now.

"We plan to discuss a wide range of topics with the Indian government such as mutual cooperation in trade, defence, security, education, culture and other regional cooperation frameworks."

Mr Surapong was also preparing the ground for the official visit of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from Jan 24 to 26 as chief guest on India's Republic Day, for which only one head of state or government is invited annually.

Indian officials said the pacts being prepared for signing during Ms Yingluck's visit include a protocol for a framework agreement on free trade, action programmes for cooperation on science and technology and culture, as well as a memorandum of understanding on security cooperation.

Senior commerce ministry officials in New Delhi say India is taking an aggressive approach in the services sector but Thailand does not appear comfortable with giving more access to Indian professionals.

In the overall picture, said Mr Surapong, more market access will lead to liberalisation of sectors that will provide mutual benefits to both countries.

Since 2006, there has been vast expansion in trade between India and Thailand which has doubled to US$6.6 billion.

"The Thai government is also encouraging business communities in both the countries to increase their interactions so that we could explore further business opportunities," said Mr Surapong. "We believe there is huge potential in areas of science and technology as India has remarkable research and development capabilities."

Both countries also plan to set up CEO forums, expand cooperation on education and cultural exchange, facilitate Thai pilgrims to visit India and promote the production of Indian films in Thailand. Joint development of satellite-based geographic information systems is also in the pipeline.

Legal officials, meanwhile, are looking at expediting a bilateral extradition agreement and expanding mutual assistance in civil lawsuits.

Mr Surapong acknowledged concerns on both sides about the presence of Indian gangsters known to have operated out of Bangkok and other cities in Thailand, He said the two sides were keen on accelerating negotiations on transfers of convicts and an extradition treaty.

At present, the India-Thailand Joint Working Group on Security Cooperation looks into transnational crimes, counter terrorism and criminal justice matters.

The Joint Commission meeting also addressed other issues such as aviation rights, visa arrangements to facilitate visits of Buddhism monks, Thai pilgrims, businessmen and ordinary tourists to India, as well as support for the restoration of Nalanda University, the ancient centre of higher education in Bihar, and the cerebration of the 2,600th anniversary of Lord Buddha's enlightenment.

Both sides agreed to restore the strategic partnership initiated by the former Thaksin Shinawatra government. It will be announced when Ms Yingluck visits India.

As well, Thailand has asked India to transfer Thai aviation rights from routes not yet fully used to those on which there is demand for more flights.

Thailand and India are also working with other countries on a free trade pact covering the Bimstec group (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation).

As well, the two countries are in talks for setting up a cooperation fund, and a road to link India, Myanmar and Thailand. The Dawei seaport project in Myanmar and the Pak Bara deep-sea port in Thailand's southern Satun province will offer both countries even more opportunities.

CPF expands Asian reach

B66-billion deal with parent places SET-listed food giant on course for regional dominance.

Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CPF) expects to be the dominant player in most Asian markets after completing the acquisition of subsidiaries in China and Vietnam from the parent Charoen Pokphand Group.

‘‘Even if we keep growing at this rate we will not be able to feed the population of Asia for the next 20 years,’’ says Mr Adirek.

Pending final approval from a shareholders' meeting later this month, the acquisitions would help SET-listed CPF cover the Asia region with competitors falling far behind.

"Once the acquisitions are completed we will not only see our revenues in 2012 grow by 50% but we also expect our revenues for the next five to 10 years grow by a minimum of 15%," said Adirek Sripratak, the president and CEO of CPF, in a recent interview with the Bangkok Post.

While the deal worth 66.3 billion baht will give CPF a major revenue boost, the parent will retain some markets such as Burma, Cambodia and Indonesia and some food businesses in China.

Mr Adirek said CPF currently had no plans to seek further acquisitions from the parent as it wants to digest the latest ones first.

"We are dividing our areas between the parent company and ourselves and there is no overlap because even with the implementation of the AEC (Asean Economic Community) the agricultural sector would continue to be protected, so the question of overlapping on the other's turf would not apply," he said.

CPF currently has operations in India, Thailand, Turkey, Russia, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Malaysia and small stakes in Cambodia and Vietnam.

"Our intentions are to make the current acquisition good and even outstanding over the next two years while cutting back on a lot of the expansion plans to be prudent in our finances," he said.

With a potential to cover markets containing as many as 3 billion people, CPF should be able to keep its revenue stream steady even in the worst economic crisis that may occur, said Mr Adirek.

"Even if we keep growing at this rate we will not be able to feed the population of Asia for the next 20 years. We will grow with the growth of the region."

CPF's core business of livestock and aquaculture is the key to its operations. With the new acquisitions the company hopes to be among the top two in the world for animal feed. With the acquisition in Vietnam it could become the world's top producer of shrimp, taking advantage of Vietnam's long shoreline to expand breeding.

"There are synergies that we can derive from such acquisitions, such as lower overhead cost, lower raw material prices, and expansion along with the customer base as we will be a $10-billion conglomerate," he said.

Mr Adirek said growth was assured even if the global economy went into a tailspin because demand for food will continue to remain strong and even grow, as CPF's products are not in the high-end segment but basic foods that most people consume.

The deal with CP Group involves the purchase of 74.18% of Hong Kong-listed CP Pokphand Co (CPP), which has two main businesses _ animal feed in China, and integrated farm operations in Vietnam via CP Vietnam Corporation (CPV).

CPF will buy 18.79 billion CPP shares at HK$0.90 apiece from Orient Success International Ltd, Worth Access Trading Ltd and CPI Holding Co, a value of US$2.17 billion.

The company will help to fund the purchase by issuing 694 million shares priced at 30 baht each. The remaining US$1.49 billion (46.8 billion baht) will be paid in cash. The share issue will increase the number of CPF shares to 8.214 billion, up from 7.52 billion.

The deal is being made at a discount to the premiums paid for other acquisitions on the Hong Kong bourse, and is being pitched as a good deal to the investors of CPF.

"If you look at the premiums paid on share purchases in Hong Kong, they are about 46% over the past 10 years but our purchase has no premium," he said, noting that this was for the purchase of a business that took nearly 30 years to build in both China and Vietnam.

The purchase is likely to push up the debt-to-equity ratio of CPF to 1.4 times from the current 0.6 times but Mr Adirek says the profitability of the operations, along with prudence in capacity expansion in the years ahead, could bring the DE back to about 0.6 times in 3-5 years.

"We have been telling investors across the globe over the past few weeks about this, and our cost of funds would be low as we are issuing bonds to finance part of the deal," he said.

After the deal CPF will hold a 74% stake in CPP but eventually it may want to divest part of the holding to keep the free float in the market, although this is something that the management says it has not yet considered.

Mr Adirek says the plan for the company is to keep investing in markets such as Russia (500-600 million baht annually), India, and even in mature markets such as Turkey where value addition would require an outlay of 500-600 million baht annually.

As for the other operations, the company would like to keep its expansion budget low so as not to stretch itself, and instead focus on increasing the capacity utilisation of the companies it is acquiring.

CPF's acquisition in China alone will add 78 production facilities that are operating at a mere 55% of capacity, and in Vietnam they are operating at a low 60%.

"Despite the low capacity utilisation they are profitable operations and we intend to use very little funds to increase the efficiencies and utilisation rates, as there continues to remain room for growth in the two markets," said Mr Adirek. "The two countries would need only 4 billion baht annually for this purpose and after three years we will look at investing further."

ทั้งนี้ จะมีการกำหนดวิสัยทัศน์ให้เศรษฐกิจไทยพัฒนาอย่างมั่นคง ยั่งยืน และเป็น 1 ใน 10 ประเทศผู้นำการค้าโลกภายในปี 2563 จากปัจจุบันที่ไทยติด 1 ใน 20 ประเทศผู้นำการค้าโลก

ส่วนการจัดทำข้อตกลงเขตการค้าเสรี(FTA) ฉบับต่างๆ นั้น นางศรีรัตน์ กล่าวว่า ปีนี้กรมตั้งเป้าจะเจรจาจัดทำ FTA รวม 3 ฉบับให้เสร็จสมบูรณ์ ทั้งในด้านการเปิดเสรีสินค้า, ภาคบริการ และการลงทุน หลังจากที่ได้มีการเปิดเสรีสินค้านำร่อง(เออร์ลี่ ฮาร์เวสท์) ไปก่อนแล้ว ทั้ง FTA ไทย-อินเดีย ที่ตั้งเป้าจะเจรจาให้เสร็จในต้นปีนี้ และจะมีผลบังคับใช้ราวเดือนมิ.ย.นี้ รวมถึง FTA ไทย-ชิลี และ FTA ไทย-เปรู ที่ตั้งเป้าเจรจาให้เสร็จในปีนี้ และมีผลบังคับใช้ต้นปี 56

นอกจากนี้ ยังมี FTA อีก 2 ฉบับที่จะต้องนำเข้าสู่การพิจารณาของรัฐสภา ตามมาตรา 190 แห่งรัฐธรรมนูญ พ.ศ.2550 คือ FTA ไทย-สหภาพยุโรป และ FTA ไทย-สมาคมการค้าเสรียุโรป (EFTA) ประกอบด้วย สวิตเซอร์แลนด์, นอร์เวย์, ไอซ์แลนด์ และลิกเตนสไตน์ เชื่อว่าจะผ่านความเห็นชอบจากรัฐสภาให้มีการเจรจาได้ โดยกรมตั้งเป้าหมายเจรจาให้แล้วเสร็จภายในปีนี้เช่นกัน

Top-10 ranking seen by 2020

New international trade strategies are being planned in an attempt to make Thailand one of the world's 10 largest trading nations by 2020.

The country is currently ranked 17th globally in the value of its international trade, according to Srirat Rastapana, director-general of the Trade Negotiation Department at the Commerce Ministry.

The department is about to complete a trade blueprint for 2012-15, co-developed with Chulalongkorn University's Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration, which also features a vision for the next eight years.

According to Mrs Srirat, the new strategy will call for the Thai private sector to become more regionalised and internationalised both in terms of products and marketing.

"Currently, Thai production and products generally have two standards, with the one for local consumption featuring lower quality than the one for export," she said.

"Thai entrepreneurs from now on need to improve their products to the same international standard and focus more on research and development."

More cooperation between the private and public sectors will be needed to streamline the new strategy, she added.

Trade between Thailand and its global partners in 2010 was valued at US$377.73 billion, including $195.30 billion in exports and $182.42 billion worth of imports.

Among the 10-member Asean group, the kingdom was second only to Singapore, which recorded international trade value of $662.65 billion. "At a time when the EU, US and Japan economies are suffering setbacks and this is taking a toll on the world's economy, all interest is in Asia in which Thailand will also benefit," said Mrs Srirat. "In addition we expect to reap more from regional integration if we are well prepared."

She said the department this year would focus mainly on talks under the Asean framework to capitalise on the Asean Economic Community in 2015.

Thailand's trade with Asean totalled $75 billion, accounting for 19.8% of the total trade value with the world.

The department is also committed to moving ahead with free trade talks with India, Chile and Peru which are still pending. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is due to visit India on Feb 24-26. The FTA with India, which has been under negotiation for eight years, is said to be nearly ready to be signed, possibly as early as March.

Shrimp outlook promising 10% growth foreseen in spite of barriers

Thailand's shrimp industry looks promising this year despite lingering grave concerns about viral outbreaks, rising international trade barriers in light of the fragile US and EU economies, and more natural disasters.


"We foresee another year of good growth in 2012, as global demand for shrimp remains strong and the price is affordable," said Somsak Paneetatyasai, president of the Thai Shrimp Association.

"But this is the case only if no calamities break out like last year and farmers have decent farming management plans."

According to the industry's body, the world's shrimp production was estimated at 2.335 million tonnes last year, a slight drop from 2.35 million tonnes in 2010, with Thailand's farmed shrimp production making up 600,000 tonnes, down 6% from 640,000 in 2010.

The country's exports for 11 months ending in November were 361,460 tonnes, a 7.87% contraction from the same period last year, but by value they rose 9.78% to 101.13 billion baht, outstripping 100.94 billion baht for the whole of 2010.

The production decline was mainly attributed to heavy floods in late 2010 and early 2011 in the southern region and heavy rains and cool weather in the central and eastern regions in the second half of the year.

According to Mr Somsak, the country's shrimp trade is expected to grow by at least 10% in terms of both production and export value, boosted by strong global demand despite the troubled economies of the US and the euro zone.

However, he warned the industry remains concerned about rising non-tariff barriers in importing countries in light of the weak global economy. Of particular concern are the anti-dumping (AD) penalties by the US and the generalised system of preferences (GSP) cut by the European Union.

Washington currently imposes a 0.73% import tariff on Thai shrimp, a significant drop from 6% in 2004, when the world's largest economy first launched anti-dumping duty on Thai products to protect its local industry.

According to Mr Somsak, US authorities are now reviewing the AD duty on shrimp imports and Thai exporters are hoping for the best.

They expect the rate to be cut below 0.50% (de minimis), a level considered nil or duty-free in effect. But the US Department of Commerce looks set to treat the rates below 0.50% normally.

The decision may affect the US market, which makes up 46% of Thai shrimp exports.

According to Mr Somsak, the EU is also in the process of reviewing its GSP rules, planning to lower the number of countries that enjoy its privileges, with Thailand possibly one of them.

Thai fresh shrimp currently faces a 4.2% GSP tax rate, with the rate for processed shrimp levied at 7%.

The tariff could possibly rise to as much as 20% for processed shrimp and 12% for fresh shrimp if the Thai authorities fail to convince the EU counterpart to retain GSP for the Thai shrimp, he said.

The EU made up 16% of Thai shrimp shipments last year.

More importantly, Mr Somsak said one of the industry's key concern is the spread of the infectious myonecrosis virus (IMNV) now found in Indonesia and Brazil.

"It's fortunate Thailand is free from IMNV now, but we are closely working with the Fishery Department and related authorities to monitor shrimp imports to prevent a breakout," he said.

Thai-Peruvian FTA takes effect

The Early Harvest programme under the free trade agreement between Thailand and Peru took effect on Dec 31, 2011, covering 70 per cent of goods traded between the two countries.
According to the Trade Negotiations Department, under the scheme, tariffs on 50 per cent of all goods are zero per cent. Tariffs on 20 per cent of the goods would be zero within Jan 1, 2016.

Thailand will enjoy zero tariffs for a number of 3,985 items, against 3,844 items for Peru. Among Thai goods enjoying the zero tariffs include automobile, components and parts of which US$163 million value accounts for over 70 per cent of exports to Peru. Others are washing machine and rubber products.

Zero tariffs are also applied to the imports of ores, fish oil and frozen seafood.

The department expects bilateral trade to expand from US$589 million, registered in the first 11 months of 2011, due to the FTA implementation. It also hopes that this would raise awareness among Thai companies to use Peru as gateway to the South America. Peru has so far struck FTAs with a number of countries like the US, Mexico, Canada, European Union, Singapore, China, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

ดร.จักรกรินทร์ ศรีมูล ผู้อำนวยการศูนย์กลางการค้าและการลงทุนกลุ่มลาตินอเมริกาและกลุ่มประเทศแถบคาริบเบียน (SEA-LAC) มหาวิทยาลัยหอการค้าไทย เปิดเผยกับ "ฐานเศรษฐกิจ" ภายหลังการสัมมนาหัวข้อ "ลาตินอเมริกา อนาคตใหม่ของการลงทุน" ในงานบีโอไอแฟร์ 2011 ว่า SEA-LAC และสภาธุรกิจไทย-ลาตินอเมริกา อยู่ระหว่างการหารือวางแผนเสนอแนวคิดกองทุนส่งเสริมการลงทุนอาเซียน-ลาตินอเมริกา เพื่อเป็นช่องทางสนับสนุนด้านการเงินให้ผู้ประกอบการไทยที่ต้องการเข้าไปลงทุนในลาตินอเมริกาซึ่งเป็นตลาดใหม่ที่มีการเติบโตทางเศรษฐกิจสูง มีศักยภาพในการเป็นตลาดทดแทนในภาวะที่ตลาดอเมริกาและสหภาพยุโรปมีความอ่อนแอ และมีแนวโน้มจะเป็นโอกาสที่สำคัญของโลกในอนาคต
ทั้งนี้ อุตสาหกรรมชิ้นส่วนยานยนต์ อาหารบรรจุกระป๋อง และเครื่องใช้ไฟฟ้า ถือเป็นกลุ่มอุตสาหกรรมที่ผู้ประกอบการไทยมีโอกาสเข้าไปลงทุน เนื่องจากตลาดลาตินอเมริกามีความต้องการสินค้ากลุ่มดังกล่าวมาก ประกอบกับปัจจุบันกลุ่มทุนจากประเทศอุตสาหกรรมขนาดใหญ่ เช่น สาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน ญี่ปุ่น และเกาหลีใต้ เริ่มให้ความสำคัญกับประเทศลาตินอเมริกาและเข้าไปตั้งฐานการผลิตแล้ว ซึ่งถ้าผู้ประกอบการไทยมีสายสัมพันธ์ที่ดีกับบริษัทของจีน ญี่ปุ่น และเกาหลีใต้ ก็เป็นช่องทางที่จะสามารถติดตามเข้าไปลงทุนในอุตสาหกรรมสนับสนุนได้
นายไพรัช บูรพชัยศรี ประธานกรรมการสภาธุรกิจไทย-ลาตินอเมริกา กล่าวว่า การสนับสนุนในรูปของกองทุนส่งเสริมการลงทุนอาเซียน-ลาตินอเมริกานั้น มองว่าจะเป็นส่วนสำคัญในการผลักดันให้ผู้ประกอบการไทยมีโอกาสในการเข้าไปลงทุนในลาตินอเมริกาได้มากขึ้น แต่เมื่อประเทศไทยก้าวเข้าสู่ประชาคมเศรษฐกิจอาเซียนแล้ว กองทุนนี้ก็ควรมีบทบาทในระดับอาเซียนด้วย โดยเปิดให้ทุกประเทศในอาเซียนและประเทศอื่นๆ ที่สนใจเจาะตลาดลาตินอเมริกาได้ร่วมลงขันในกองทุนนี้ แล้วให้วงเงินกู้ยืมแก่ผู้ประกอบการที่มีแผนเข้าไปลงทุนในลาตินอเมริกา ทั้งนี้ เบื้องต้นประเมินว่ากองทุนดังกล่าวควรมีเงินทุนไม่น้อยกว่า 10,000 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐฯ หรือประมาณ 300,000 ล้านบาท
"ปัจจุบันยังไม่มีผู้ประกอบการไทยเข้าไปตั้งฐานการผลิตในประเทศกลุ่มลาตินอเมริกา แม้จะเป็นประเทศที่มีความน่าสนใจด้านการค้าการลงทุน ดังนั้น หากรัฐบาลเห็นความสำคัญของตลาดนี้ก็ควรมีมาตรการสนับสนุนที่ชัดเจน ซึ่งสภาธุรกิจไทย-ลาตินอเมริกา และ SEA-LAC เห็นว่ารัฐบาลควรมีการพิจารณายุทธศาสตร์การส่งเสริมการค้าการลงทุนไทย-ลาตินอเมริกา และมีกองทุนสนับสนุนด้านการเงิน เพราะถ้าไม่มีกองทุนนี้ การลงทุนในลาตินอเมริกาก็อาจเกิดได้ยาก"
นางสุภาวดี วิทูรปกรณ์ รองกรรมการผู้จัดการ บริษัท แอร์โรคลาส จำกัด ผู้ผลิตชิ้นส่วนยานยนต์และอุปกรณ์แต่งรถยนต์ เช่น ฝาครอบกระบะ ฝาปิดกระบะ หลังคาไฟเบอร์ เปิดเผยว่า ตลาดรถยนต์ในลาตินอเมริกาเป็นตลาดใหญ่ที่มีขนาดถึง 5 ล้านคันต่อปี โดยตลาดใหญ่ที่สุดคือ บราซิล มียอดขายรถยนต์ใหม่ 3.3 ล้านคันในปี 2553 ดังนั้น จึงเป็นโอกาสที่บริษัทจะเข้าไปรุกตลาดลาตินอเมริกามากขึ้น ล่าสุดอยู่ระหว่างการศึกษาลู่ทางการลงทุนตั้งฐานการผลิตซึ่งมองว่าเม็กซิโก และบราซิลเป็นประเทศที่น่าสนใจ หากมีการลงทุนจริงคงใช้เงินลงทุนไม่ต่ำกว่า 200-300 ล้านบาท และอาจมีพันธมิตรที่เป็นบริษัทท้องถิ่นร่วมทุนด้วย อย่างไรก็ตาม ยังคงต้องใช้เวลาในการศึกษาการลงทุนอีกหลายปี

CP-Meiji keen on Hong Kong

CP-Meiji Co, a subsidiary of Charoen Pokphand Group, is ready to enter Hong Kong's fresh milk market in the first quarter of this year after success in the yoghurt market.

Prasit Boondoungprasert, the company's president, said CPF in Hong Kong will be responsible for the marketing and distribution of its products. Meiji fresh milk will be available in all distribution channels from retail outlets, coffee and bakery chains to hotel eateries.

The company has exported its yoghurt to Hong Kong for a couple years and received a positive consumer response, selling about 10 million baht per year.

"Meiji's brand image in Hong Kong is very good and the market has huge potential. There are few competitors and the per capita consumption there is about three times higher than Thailand, at 14 litres per year," Mr Prasit said.

There are five fresh milk brands available in Hong Kong, but only one is local. Meiji competes with these brands in Singapore and is familiar with them.

"Our main concern is transport cost. We want to increase transport efficiency to reduce the time for shipments since pasteurised milk has a short shelf life," he said.

Meiji first exported dairy to Singapore a decade ago. Now it is the market leader there with a 35% market share despite tough competition from American, Australian, New Zealand and Indonesian brands.

The company also plans to penetrate Indochina in the future.

Exports make up about 20% of the company's total sales and are expected to rise to 30% over the next three to four years.

Sales of CP-Meiji in 2011 rose by 20% to 4.3 billion baht, about 5% higher than its earlier projection. The company adjusted its delivery management during the flood, enabling it to continue supplying retail chains.

Mr Prasit said it aims to increase its overall sales by 20% this year to 5.16 billion baht, with 80% from the local market. The company will spend 200 million baht, up 30% from last year, on marketing. It launched educational and sports activities last week dubbed Meiji Tensai to help build brand awareness.

CP-Meiji will also reduce its business risk from flooding by opening three distribution centres in suburban Bangkok, branching out from its sole distribution centre at its factory in Muak Lek, Saraburi province.

At least 10 million baht will be spent to develop its IT for better warehouse management. It also expects to launch a new flavour this year.

Mr Prasit said its new 2-billion-baht factory in Muak Lek should begin operation in the first quarter of 2013. Apart from producing cultured yoghurt, cup yoghurt and pasteurised milk, the company will expand its product line to functional dairy drinks.

The company's response to the government's planned minimum wage hike to 300 baht per day this year is to use more robots at its factory and increase the efficiency of its existing workers, he said.

The company's internal management system has also been improved to prepare itself for new international milk brands entering Thailand with the onset of the Asean Economic Community due in 2015.

นายกิตติรัตน์ ณ ระนอง รองนายกรัฐมนตรี และ รมว.พาณิชย์ เปิดเผยในการเปิดตัวตราสัญลักษณ์ Thailand Trust Mark หรือ TTM ว่า เป็นเครื่องหมายที่กรมส่งเสริมการส่งออกเป็นผู้พิจารณาให้ใช้กับสินค้าและบริการที่จดทะเบียนถูกต้องและได้มาตรฐานเป็นที่ยอมรับในระดับสากล ถือเป็นการต่อยอดความสำเร็จของตราสัญลักษณ์ Thailand’s Brand ที่สร้างชื่อเสียงให้สินค้าและบริการของไทยเป็นที่จดจำในด้านความหลากหลายและความประณีตพิถีพิถัน (Diversity & Refinement)

ทั้งนี้ การนำ TTM มาใช้จะเป็นเครื่องมือยุทธศาสตร์ด้านการค้า เพิ่มความมั่นใจให้ผู้ซื้อในต่างประเทศ ซึ่งจะมีส่วนช่วยสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้กับสินค้าไทย ปัจจัยเหล่านี้จะส่งเสริมให้ไทยมีศักยภาพการแข่งขันบนเวทีการค้าระหว่างประเทศสูงยิ่งขึ้น และพร้อมเป็นฐานการผลิตให้กับกลุ่มประเทศสมาชิกอาเซียนได้

นางนันทวัลย์ ศกุนตนาค อธิบดีกรมส่งเสริมการส่งออก กล่าวว่า ผู้ประกอบการที่สนใจสมัครรับตราสัญลักษณ์ TTM ต้องเป็นสมาชิกของกรม และเป็นนิติบุคคลที่จดทะเบียนในประเทศไทยที่มีภาพลักษณ์ดี ไม่มีประวัติเสียหาย โดยจะเปิดรับสมัครในเดือน ม.ค.ของทุกปี และปีนี้เป็นปีแรก

นายศิริวัฒน์ ขจรประศาสน์ รมช.พาณิชย์ กล่าวหลังประชุมหารือแนวทางสร้างความร่วมมือเพื่อส่งเสริมเศรษฐกิจการค้า การส่งออก ร่วมกับสภาอุตสาหกรรมแห่งประเทศไทย (ส.อ.ท.) ว่า กระทรวงพาณิชย์กำลังพิจารณาว่าจะมีแนวทางใดที่จะช่วยเพิ่มวงเงินกองทุนส่งเสริมการค้าระหว่างประเทศได้ เพื่อใช้ในการส่งเสริมกิจการส่งออกของภาคอุตสาหกรรมให้มีความสามารถในการแข่งขันมากขึ้น

ในปีงบประมาณ 2555 ส.อ.ท.ได้ยื่นโครงการเพื่อขอส่งเสริม 47 โครงการ จำนวนเงิน 17.9 ล้านบาท ได้อนุมัติให้แล้ว 2.3 ล้านบาท.
