A cold-weather subway train runs a test in Harbin on Aug 21, 2012. China's first such trains, produced in Changchun, Jilin province, will start running in Harbin later this month. Doors are thicker on a cold-weather subway train. The trains are designed with special heating and heat preservation. For example, they have high-power air conditioners and electric heaters under the seats, to keep them running in extreme cold weather, such as -38 C.

Not very snowy.

The January average temperature of Harbin is -18,4, and the records fall indeed below -40. But the January precipitation is just 3,4 mm (melted water - dry snow is thicker of course). The total precipitation of the 5 months November to March, all of which have average temperatures below zero, is 33,8 mm.

Any comments from locals?
