Versailles Castle, France

imagine the visit with that song

Garden and exteriors ( august 2011 )

from Wikipedia :

"The Palace of Versailles, or simply Versailles, is a royal château in Versailles in the Île-de-France region of France. In French it is the Château de Versailles.

When the château was built , Versailles was a country village; today, however, it is a suburb of Paris, some 20 kilometres southwest of the French capital. The court of Versailles was the centre of political power in France from 1682, when Louis XIV moved from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in October 1789 after the beginning of the French Revolution. Versailles is therefore famous not only as a building, but as a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy of the Ancien Régime."

Floor area : 67,000 m2
Number of windows : 2,153
Number of rooms : 2,300
Staircases : 67
Paintings in the museum’s collection : 6,123
Drawings in museum’s collection : 1,500

Spectacular!
I'd been here once and my photos do not give justice to this gem - the gilts, the patterned floors of marbles of varied colors,
the chandeliers, the pieces of curved furniture, statues, the forest-gardens,
the priceless pieces of arts and the biggest diamond and ruby I ever seen in my life.

thank you for sharing your photos.

Versailles really captures that feeling that the monarchy had - of being solar & divine .

Great photo tour, Maxou!

I visited Versailles in 2003 while I was in France for foreign exchange. It's a spectacular place, that's for sure!

Did you get a chance to visit Marie Antoinette's cottages on the grounds? It's like a fairy tale land.

Regrettably I did not have time to visit Marie Antoinette cottages because the garden is so immense that it is necessary more than 3 hours to see all the copses: (

Simply, The Best

Emulated, but never equalled - many of the European Royals tried to rival Versailles but none came anywhere near the quality of this remarkable place. Good photos.

Please tell me I'm not the only nerd out there who has fond memories of that Castlevania game that set one of its levels here...
