Do they have the same passports, or is there a difference ?

Different passports - the Hong Kong passport has vastly more visa-free access overseas than the Chinese passport.

Hi, not 3.3%, should be 10.7% increase from last year 42 mil passengers.

Sea-Tac Airport reports 32,819,863 for 2011, up 4.01% from 2010 and slightly over its all-time high from 2008.

International was up 6.3% to 2,985,028. That includes growth of 8.81% for Asia (1,020,439) and 11.94% for Europe (800,209). Canada declined 1.07% (970,730). Presumably the other 193,650 was Mexico.

Sea-Tac finally has its added runway, which has allowed it to operate properly in bad "instrument only" weather. That's apparently given carriers to the confidence to add routes. We've added a handful of new overseas routes in the past couple years -- still not a major overseas gateway but a lot better than before.

Hopefully one day, BER would meet or even surpass Frankfurt Airport in terms of passenger numbers.

I think the key here would be flights from overseas/foreign carriers (in addition to commitments from local carriers like Lufthansa, etc.).

Hopefully, I would want the Japanese airlines (JAL and ANA) as well as a few Asian carriers (i.e. Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, EVA AIR), a few from the rest of Europe (i.e. British Airways, KLM, Air France, Alitalia, etc.), a few from the Americas (i.e. United, Delta, etc.).........then the Middle East carriers (i.e. Emirates, Qatar Airways, Ethiad, Oman Air, etc.)

In short, whatever Frankfurt has and is now......will what Berlin Bradenburg must be or will be.

My opinion

There is zero chance of that ever happening. As a matter of fact it won't even be able to challenge Munich as the second busiest airport in Germany, but is pretty much poised to remain No.3 forever.

Once the third terminal in Frankfurt opens in 2015 it will have a capacity of approx. 90 million. Munich is also planning to build a new runway and a new terminal which will raise the capacity to approx. 70-75 million annual passengers.

Compare that with the fact that Berlin will have an initial capacity of 30 million with the possibility to extend it to 50 million in the future.

There simply is no demand for such a large airport in Berlin. While it is the largest German city it is located in the least populated region of Germany. On the other hand one third of the total German population lives within a 2-hour drive of Frankfurt airport. And foreign tourists can't even remotely make up the difference.

Brazil

I have not noticed the 2011's numbers of brazilian airports here, so here they come. If any of you are patient enough to introduce them on the charts, I'd be very grateful:

It does get quite close though. Bear in mind that more international airlines seem to fly to Beijing rather than Shanghai.

top 50 cities in 2011 by air passengers. probably Manila and Osaka will be part of top 50 but i didnt find statistics yet.
New York City is composed only with JFK, EWR, LGA and SWF (HPN and ISP doesnt released statistics yet)
Pheonix also counted only with PHX, the same with Toronto (only YYZ)

The busiest airport in the world by MFMinn, on Flickr

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport remains the world's busiest airport, according to the latest global ranking of airport traffic. But No. 2 Beijing is gaining ground. Atlanta's airport, the world's busiest since 1998, handled 92.4 million passengers in 2011, up 3.4 percent year-over-year.

But according to figures released by Airports Council International, Beijing Capital International Airport saw a 4.7 percent increase to 77.4 million passengers, slightly narrowing Atlanta's lead. Beijing could eventually become the world's busiest airport, but the 2011 figures make clear that time is not soon.

London Heathrow came in at No. 3, with 69.4 million passengers, followed by Chicago O'Hare with 66.6 million passengers.

Atlanta did not make the top 30 airports list for air cargo traffic. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has made increasing air cargo traffic a priority since he campaigned for mayor.
