Light installations, Mall of Scandinavia

Some clips showing off the light installations at the mall, overall designed by light planners ÅF Lighting, highly commended for their work at this project at the 40th Lighting Design Awards earlier this year. The whole mall has over 32,000 light fixtures and 32 roof lights.

The facade is lit up with a moving light installation, and the entrance features a light animation consisting of 1,200 linear floor and ceiling luminaries requiring synchronous activation of around 15,000 data channels, using LED technology by Insta Elektro GmbH, Germany.

Inside the mall, there's a 65 meter long sculptural light installation, inspired by the northern lights. It was designed by Swedish B-Reel and Mediatec with help from the London-based video architecture firm BAJT, featuring 3,800 LED strips, mapped in real time by using the video production suite d3.

Great! Huge malls are in demand, in Russia as well, by the way

costly for the constructor yes, but not the owner of the mall. The constructor made a bad decision in the procurement and offered to much to get the job. I think it is good they just can pass on cost above what they offered to build it for when they signed the deal.

This is an incredibly beautiful mall. Hopefully they will get some better transit access. A major train station (Solna) is just a little bit too far from the mall. I wonder how many people go there by train since it is just a 7 minute ride from the city center of Stockholm.

On the weekends the commuter train is often packed with people going to and from the mall.

As far as the distance between the station and mall, I guess it's a question of definition because I don't think it's far between the two at all. The main entrance of the mall is basically right at one end of the station. You just have to cross the bridge over the tracks and you're outside the mall.

hard to believe they are building such malls in Sweden, but I guess people like them given the climate...very cosy to walk around on a cold night and socialize within a climate-controlled environment.
