Feature: Campuestohan Highland Resort: ‘Home of Giants, Superheroes’
06/10/2013

The five-hectare mountain resort, strategically-situated on the border of Bacolod City and Talisay City, is easily-accessible to people passing through new routes, parts of which are still deemed below standard, however, are considered good enough for people with private vehicle especially those coming from Bacolod City for a travel time of just a little more than half an hour, passing by Barangays Granada and Alangilan.

Its main attractions at the moment is the fact that it is home to giant-like superheroes whose imposing structures and life-like replicas are a standout on a fantasyland now a favorite hangout of the young ones, children and kids, including teeners, the not-so-old adults who just love to pose beside their favorite superheroes standing aloft at no less than 15 feet garbed in their highly recognizable, familiar outfits in full color and splendor.

They are - Superman, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Thor, The Iron Man, NBA Great Michael Jordan, Elvis "The Pelvis" Presley, Batman, The Flashman, The Terminator, The Green Lantern, and soon, the sitting Kingkong, that towering behemoth and the biggest, most furious of them all, still under construction on a pedestal of sorts.

Several other fantasy structures, including Alice in Wonderland and the religious icon Our Lady of Lourdes fronting a clear water spring overlooking a thick forest and mountain peak near the log house and future hotel.

Several other fantasy structures of prehistoric times and wildlife, such as the Reindeers, the Rhinoceros, Hippopotamus, sea monsters and big fishes, giant Marlins, Eagles and the like still abound in this 5-ha. resort and entertainment complex across the Mt. Makawili mountain range usually being traversed by local folks on board a cable car to the next point on Mt. Magsaya.

Plans and changes took a number of years to complete in order to transform the once forested and unreachable place into one that is ideal for a resort and recreation area that it is today.

At Campuestohan today, teeming with visitors and tourists especially during weekends, are facilities including a kiddie pool, swimming pool for adults, children’s playland with imported amenities from China, a huge slipper designed as a speed boat, onion-shaped and igloo-like camphouses, among others.

Still under construction is a pavilion that can house at least 300 guests, a giant chess board, giant zodiac signs, and other distinct sights that can easily attract attention.

A horseback-riding area will also be established at the back of the log house named "Cano Gwapo," overlooking Mt. Makawili and Magsaya which are frequently enveloped by thick fogs, accounting for the constantly cool atmosphere.

The Tan couple, who are best remembered for the highly-successful "Sinugba Restaurant" which served Bacoleños for more than 20 years, was the toast of many Negrenses and their guests from all over the country for more than a decade with tasty sea foods and broiled fish, plan to revive the famous restaurant in the mountain resort. Indeed, many more pleasant surprises are expected and in store at Campuestohan, the true wonderland in the near future. That’s for sure.*

New resort has a great view

A pavilion for conferences and parties, and an artificial river are also being built at the resort where Tan also plans to revive his famous Sinugba Restaurant. There will also be a place where guests can go horseback riding, a sunken garden, and a wedding altar and carriage for couples who wish to marry there, he said.

He is thankful to Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia for improving the road in Alangilan and to Talisay Mayor Eric Saratan for the work done on the Campuestohan road, which will also greatly improve the lives of people living in the area, Tan said.

Only about three-and-a-half kilometers of the road to the resort have yet to be paved but Saratan is planning to develop the tourism potential of the property owned by the Talisay City government nearby, Tan said.

I think it's just proper to add the word "Highland" to the thread title since the official name of the project is "Campuestohan Highland Resort". Campuestohan is the name of the place where the resort is located.

a cable car system going down to the proposed EK type amusement complex in Talisay would be awesome, maybe they could do a joint venture and both will surely benefit.....hope it would not be a danger to air traffic as it is in close proximity to bsia.

Cano Gwapo

Cano Tan is still developing the area, but already available for use are the swimming pool, the Children’s Park and the log cabin which has several rooms that, due to the cold weather, have no air conditioning. The natural coolness of the place is more than sufficient to keep one under the blanket or wrapped in a jacket.

The Children’s Park has multi-colored imported rides and slides that are not seen anywhere here yet. Cano is putting rubber matting around the area for the children’s safety.

He is also constructing a 300-seater pavilion which he hopes would be ready by September. It will have a restaurant reminiscent of his popular Sinugba Restaurant which featured grilled chicken and sea foods. It will be open for seminars and conferences with lodging at the cabin and the cluster of igloo-like Bonita Huts that have unique features, like one platform, that serves as a large bed for four. It is wonderful for family bonding. It has a terrace for outside eating and lounging.

There are other amenities but I liked best the free-flowing water that comes from a spring inside the forest. Cano constructed a plume that brought the water to the resort and into the swimming pool but this has to be filtered because it has rich organic element. The current is so strong that Cano said several foreigners are interested to harness it for a 25-kw hydroelectric plant.

The water naturally flows through a series of canals and feeding into a grotto.

That would be great...the resort will be providing power for its operations and might supply power to its neighbors as well.
