Probably visionary, it's a private developer and its not approved, yet. Also it's aimed as world's tallest building, not mentioning that it may have been taller than Kingdom tower though. In Baku i can't really see it going up, but well it's still news, even if it's crazy news.

A local investor is hoping to build a 185-storey building in Sahil (formerly Primorsk) in the southwestern suburbs of Baku.

The State Committee for Construction and Architecture has not yet received an offical application from the developer, the committee's deputy chairman, Dovlatkhan Dovlatkhanov, told Fineko.

He said that local investor Haji Ibrahim had started preliminary work on the project.

"As far as we know, the investor has already hired an architect, who has designed the initial sketch of the project which encompasses an offshore area in addition to the coastal zone and envisages the construction of artificial islands," Dovletkhanov said.

"The construction of a 185-floor building in the Baku settlement of Sahil is technically feasible. More detailed information will be provided after the fully developed project has been reviewed by specialists of the State Committee and the Ministry for Emergency Situations's evaluation committee," Dovletkhanov said.

A source in the Emergencies Ministry confirmed to Fineko that the project would be technically possible, but questioned whether it was needed at all.

Azerbaijan has experience of creating artificial land mass. Back in 1925 Lenin’s Cove, as it was then known, in Bibi Heybat was filled in.

If Haji Ibrahim's project sees the light of day, the Baku (Sahil) skyscraper will be taller than the world's tallest building - the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Kingdom Tower isn't mentioned and 185 floors don't sound like over 1000m unless it has a gigantic spire. I think the developer doesn't know about Kingdom Tower yet.

Wow, it is still good to know the news even if it is crazy, or maybe not really crazy.

all these projects are really crazy. but i think this has more chance to be actually starting then the one in port of sudan, yet this project will most likely not come far either

A thread for this one? Is that an actual proposal?
I would say it's more a vision until now.

maybe thats the reason they get crazy, so people get to know the city. or they just thought after baku gets to hold the eurovision they can do anything but then again its a private investor so you never know

Although they have started the project of Khazar Islands to be honest I don't believe this building called 'Azerbaijan Tower' within Khazar Islands project to be built anytime in the future.

Azerbaijan Tower

More information on the project is here http://www.khazarislands.com

You're ugly! Exquisite design, very futuristic, like a building out of the game Anno 2070

If that is the original project, the adjacent towers would have to have 70-120 floors as well.

First Port Sudan and now Baku, what is this supertall troll race about? Do they think it's funny to just propose a tower like that, completely unrealisticaly just outta fun? Well, actually that is funny and I think I'm gonna propose a 2km tower for Slovakia
