probably aserbaijan tower, considering it will start rising when kingdom tower is risen half way already and aserbaijan tower wants to be the tallest building and they know kingdom tower is 1007m they want to build it 1050m tall. But then again you never know, like Burj Khalifa was hidingg the final height for quite a while the same may happen for Kingdom Tower and then it may get closer than expected. Sure thing is that when Aserbaijan Tower really gets a go it will be an amazing competition

What's to guarentee that that many tourists will visit? What's there to see?

NYC doesn't even have that many tourists per day, c'mon now.

Azerbaijan aims to put up world's tallest building

(Reuters) - Oil revenues have already fuelled a high-profile construction frenzy in the former Soviet state of Azerbaijan, but in an attempt to raise its profile further, the Caspian Sea country is looking to build the tallest building in the world.

Tentatively named Azerbaijan Tower, the planned 1,050 metre structure will dwarf Dubai's Burj Khalifa to look over Baku's largest development project which is planned to include dozens of artificial islands and a Formula One race track.

Following in the footsteps of other oil and natural gas-rich post-Soviet countries along the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan wants to use its newly found oil wealth to project an image of modernity in a country where the Nobel brothers struck oil more than a century ago.

A planned 41 islands that will dot the Caspian Sea will be connected by 150 bridges.

"One million people will live here...It will be Venice, new Venice," said Ibrahim Ibrahimov, the brains behind the project and the head of real estate developer Avesta, seen as close to President Ilham Aliyev.

Ibrahimov said that American, Turkish, Arab and Chinese investors have already showed their interest in the project which is expected to cost some $100 billion.

Ibrahimov said the project will be completed between 2020 and 2025.

Construction work is currently underway on a road system which will include a Formula-1 quality race track.

In an attempt to return Baku to the glamour it possesed during the years of its first oil boom more than a century ago, five-star hotels are under construction, as well as a sprawling, curvaceous construction designed by architect Zaha Hadid.

The country will host Eurovision song contest in May in another chance for Baku authorities to showcase the city. Rights groups and residents say that much of the new construction is being carried out with massive forced eviction of residents across the city.

Azerbaijan Plans World’s Tallest Tower At ‘New Venice’

Azerbaijan plans to build the world's tallest building 3,645 feet high thanks to its vast wealth amassed from its oil revenues.

Tentatively named the Azerbaijan Tower, the building will be surrounded by dozens of artificial islands and a Formula One race track. The tower will overtake Dubai's Buj Khalifa which is currently the world's tallest building at 2,723 feet.

41 islands will be created on the Caspian Sea that will be connect by 150 bridges.

"One million people will live here...It will be Venice, new Venice," said Ibrahim Ibrahimov, the leader of the project, to Reuters.

Kana Guluzade, marketing director of the Avesta company, told the Associated Press that the construction site will include hotels, apartment buildings, and a business center.

The project costs an estimated $100 billion. It will be completed sometime between 2020 and 2050. Ibrahimov said investors from America, Turkey, China, and various Arab countries are already interested in the project.

The Formula 1 copycat race track is in construction.

Baku, the capital city, is undergoing a construction boom as five star hotels and magnificent construction projects by architect Zaha Hadid are popping up throughout the city -- at the cost of citizens. Reuters reported that rights groups and residents say they are being forced out of their homes in mass evictions across the city in favor of these construction projects.

Construction for the Azerbaijan Tower will start in late 2013.

Azerbaijan will host the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest from May 22 to May 26 at the Crystal Hall in Baku.

We don't know anything about the final design. So, at the moment it's impossible to say

But at the old proposal it is easily 100m or more. That old design is very fat
