I don't say it much but some of these buildings are a little over the top.

All side-towers are likely placeholders.

Everything on that renders looks like concept - including the main tower.

Many of these towers look unreal. I don't think that every tower is a serious planned project.

since they pretty much destroyed a mountain to get enough sand to create the islands
the local government does not allow them to get any more sand from close by mountains
and resulted in a big delay

so now probably they will use the same method Arabs used

Just a tiny off topic comment but I can't keep myself when I see that very futuristic and awesome future cluster, even without the masterpiece.. planned to being build. What is the plan in one of the poorest country in the world (edit - around 70th in the list of richest countries) ? Invest in buildings and hope tourists will come ? Hope that buildings will attract businesses ? How wrong is this. Is this really a good investment with gaz, oil incomes for their economic growth ? When you think Azerbaijan represent 2% of the GDP of France for example, and that I can't at all imagine such a project in France (even with a higher growth). I just think there 's something wrong and it seems to be a very bad investment. I bet 90% of the office/hotel spaces in that cluster will be empty in the next decade.

Even poor countries can have nice things. There are quite a lot of people driving sports cars and owning mansions in Nigeria. Azerbaijan is not the richest in the world but it can have this tower no problem.

Of course it's a private investment, it does not mean the investment is clever, it often seems to me that oil revenue is lot of cash not injected in the economy, out of the system, like a toy in few children hands. If sometimes that kind of project maybe coherent and believable such as in Dubai, I'm not sure it can be transposable and being sustainable anywhere. I hope for them it will work though. I want to see the cluster built but... for the long term, wait and see.
