I never said there's something wrong with Azerbaijan, but anyway, as was said, best is to think positive and that's what I'll do. Good luck.

Yes but comparing to France with Azerbaijan is kind of joke. Azerbaijan being under control 70 years. Do you know what does it means? 70 years somebody eats not only your resource but also killing your language, culture, history. Sending tons of oil and gas for the war (ww 2 (including soldiers)). If we be independent like France or some super country near him, i strongly believe today the image would be completely different. For 23 years Azerbaijan doing pretty well, even way better some countries in Europe.

Ferahim. I was saying France (as a random example), is NOT able to plan such a project of what, 5/6 billions dollars ! So, if you like, there is something wrong with France.

It would be pointless. I think it's far more likely it won't be build at all (which is the most likely scenario anyway), rather that it will be build lower than kt

i think it's better for Azerbaijan to invest for other things first like transportation, facilities and especially the pollution rather than built a km tower.such massive tower needs a good transportation and facilities to support it.

do people not understand the concept of private investment?

its their money they can do whatever they want with it
I would agree it's a waste if it was a government project

The country is probably the most poluted place on Earth.

Perhaps they should invest in cleaning up the mess left behind from decades of mismanagment in the USSR.

And not spend the money trying to build something that rises above the fumes...

No insult to anyone intended.

(and yes you can all come forward with your arguments that this is being build by private money.... Before you do. Please explain how those "private fortunes" were created: Did they manufacture something, did they provide services, were they incidently related to the powers-that-be....)

Why do so many people have such idealistic utopian development guidelines for Eastern countries? Just let them have their own projects instead of imposing some dogma.

First phase of Khazar Islands project to be accomplished by May.
22 APRIL 2014

WORK IN PROGRESS: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...1481751&page=8

The first phase of the huge Khazar Islands project will be completed in May this year, Azertag state news agency cites Avesta Company.
Khazar Islands, which is under construction on an artificial archipelago, will consist of 50 islands of different size with a total area of 3,000 hectares on which 19 residential districts will be built.

According to the company, the opening of a number of facilities, including beaches, restaurants, bridges and roads, are scheduled for May 28.
Besides, four km boulevard and two parks of 5 hectares for each will be put into operation by the mentioned time.
The project will be implemented in three stages. The total investment required in the Khazar Islands project is estimated at $ 100 billion. In general, it is planned to construct 20 km boulevard and 20 bridges.

The tallest building on the planet, the 1,050 meter-high Azerbaijan Tower, will be built in the territory of Khazar Islands as part of the second phase of the project. The Tower construction is expected to cost $2 billion.
The completed Khazar city will have more than 150 schools, numerous hospitals, and clusters of parks, shops, and cultural centers.

A yet-to-be-constructed airport will provide international access to the area.
The islands will be dominated by high-rise buildings and resort-like accommodations, with miles of unspoiled beaches and warm, shallow waters. Special considerations were taken in the design of the island's structures to withstand up to a 9.0 magnitude quake.

Work on the project to date has been funded by the Avesta Group itself. The Company hopes to reach annual profitability margins of 10-15 percent on investments.

Second fase: construction of 1050m tower.

"The tallest building on the planet, the 1,050 meter-high Azerbaijan Tower, will be built in the territory of Khazar Islands as part of the second phase of the project. The Tower construction is expected to cost $2 billion."

Highly unlikely. They still haven't shown any design for it, not to mention that land for the tower is most likely still not there.
