My London in 2012

It's been a while since I actually posted some London photos and thought it's about time to do that from now on once in a while.

I know London is not exactly underrepresented over here and personally I get bored viewing all those "different London" threads but I hope at least some of these photos will be of interest to some.

So let's start...

Views from and around the Thames Path in the London Bridge-Millenium Bridge area

1. The Shard rising on the other side of the River Thames

2. Close-up of the Shard's facade

3. New Developments along Thames Path. Not sure what to think of them. They're alright I guess

4. Thames Path may detour a little bit due to some obstacles right near the river but the path is clearly marked or even illuminated as in this case

Views from around Millenium Bridge

Views from around Millenium Bridge

5. St.Pauls Cathedral seen from the Millennium Bridge

6.

7. City of London. That tower with little blue lights is the 202m high (230m including the antenna) Heron Tower. Looks rather bland in the day but better in the night

8. Millennium Bridge

South Bank

9. Birches near Tate Modern gallery. We'll be back to this one later

10.

11. Barclays Cycle Hire terminal. Over the last couple of years London engaged in promoting cycling as a means of transport. This has gone a reasonably long way by now. A lot of people are commuting to work including myself

12. Charging station and parking for electric vehicles.

13.

14.

More coming soon.

Thank you, openlyJane

Continued. A brief tour of Tate Modern which is one of world's largest contemporary art galleries with over 4 million visitors a year. In my view it is one of the best (maybe the best) attractions in London

15. Western entrance which leads to what used to be the turbine hall of the Southbank power station. Nowadays it features temporary exhibitions

16. Turbine hall

17. Model of the gallery which includes the U/C annex which should be ready this year. It does need an extension. Despite being big it doesn't seem to cope with the numbers of visitors

20. Illustrated Soviet books about constructions in the USSR

21. I have seen this one a few times and seemingly it's been in the gallery for a while. Not sure what exactly this exposition represents though

Thank you all!

I shall carry on with more pictures from Tate Modern.

22. Controversial picture?

23. ... if so, then the title of the picture above is even more controversial

24. Some well known and controversial names too. Being a 'political dissident' in China can surely improve the chances of getting accepted by Tate Modern

25. Ai Waiwei's artwork: Sunflower Seeds.

This one is called "Fillette" which means Little girl or Child

Gerhard Richter's exhibition (paid for) currently can be seen in Tate Modern

Despite the ticket price of £12.70 there was a long queue of those willing to see Richter's artwork

more coming...

Continued from Tate Modern

I liked this artwork...

...even more interesting is that it's made in 1916... in Russia

A video installation by a Serbian (or is he Croatian?) artist. From what I understood he was criticizing the commercialization of the media

A model of the unfinished Burj el Murr in Beirut by a Lebanese artist

This was the first one I have seen (The Cut). The parking space was empty though.
