Sarajevo 1984

I know this is a one picture per day thread and I don't want to put a downer on anything, but these two images have to seen together. Possibly one of the most poignant pictures of Olympic history, the damaged Olympic monument at Igman Olympic Ski Jump, damaged after the Bosnian war. The Olympics is supposed to promote peace and goodwill, 10 years after the Sarajevo games 100 000 people had been killed and a nation scarred. From seeing Sarajevo full of life and colour for the Olympics, to a city under siege with people being shot by snipers as they walked to work, nearly 20 years on this is still upsetting to see. Thankfully the sadder images of the Olympics are few.

There was a fullpage spread behind The Times paywall, they're from The Metro. They even got the dog in!
