Surrealplaces hits New York: Part I

I spent some time in New York city recently.......it was my third time, but the last time I was there was the year the Rangers won the cup (1994). In many ways it is still the same city, but it also seemed much different. The first thing I noticed was how much cleaner it was. Some areas that felt dangerous back then seemed much cleaner and safer today, the people seem much friendlier. Maybe it's just me, but the city has a much brighter, vibrant feel than it did in the early 90's.

I've been to a few large bustling cities such as London, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Chicago, Dubai and New York IMO is the greatest urban experience. Here's 50 pics, hope you enjoy them.

Excellent pictures. Very artistic.

You didn't change, the city did. Since the early 90s it has changed tremendously and is indeed much safer and more prosperous. It is still cleaner but it is starting to backslide on that. For a while we very few homeless people but now they are re-appearing in large numbers again.

Back to the future!

Cleaner and Safer at a Price

I was in New York too twice recently and felt safe walking alone at 3 in the morning anywhere. But there is a catch, I saw the police treating people like garbage. I mean policemen yelling at people for the most ridiculous reasons, police treating people like they were trash... they really looked to me more like military police than a civilian police. Also, there were a few occupy wall street people gathered in a small plaza downtown, there were about 5 policemen for every poor soul that was trying to protests in a peaceful manner... cars with tinted glasses flashing siren lights and helicopters flying overhead. In another episode a subway policeman arresting a poor 14 year old because he jumped the subway turnstiles... and hancuffing him... 14 y.o.?

Not sure if the cleaniness and safety is really worth creating a military police occupation force but that is a subject for another thread I guess....
