Thanks for all those compliments
I would like to thank Madurai Gilli for accompanying me to all those places for the Industries photo tour and also many thanks to Kannan sir for encouraging me for population and publishing of data in this new thread. Hope everybody will extend their support and help in the maintenance of this thread and updates. And regarding Madurai airport connectivity, I fear that don't have any answers for your question and request you to follow our Madurai airport thread because none of our forum members will be hesitant to post updates on it once the moment they know something about it. ![]() Thanks all.

Hats off....Great initiative guys @ Madurakarenda (MK) & Dr.Gilli
![]() This is surely a valuable bit to change some people's wrong perception about Madurai portrayed by some movies & media. Few more industries u can consider to include, >> MEPCO on Madurai-Tirumangalam stretch - http://www.mepco.co.in/about-us.php >> Hi-Tech Arai Ltd - It's a pretty big company but can't find their website....their parent company Arai Seisakusho Co., Ltd website http://www.arai-net.com/english/company/history.html mentions about their ventures since 1989 and 1994 >> DuPont - They do DuPont Filaments and DuPont Non-stick coatings...also pretty big http://www2.dupont.com/India_Country...at_glance.html |

Fantastic initiative MK & MG.
Please include location (Suburb name & road name) in each factory Title. Many may not read through the text but will look at photos and move on. I want other Madurai based forumers to add their contribution also in this thread. It will be better if you mark these factories in Google Map and post. You may take one highway or region per post so that it is not cluttered. Please post other relevant matters like GDP, Labor potential, Mineral & Agri wealth of the region surrounding Madurai, Connectivity details wrt Industrial Development. Roads, Railway lines, sidings, Tuti Port connectivity, Nagapattinam / Karaikal port connectivity, Kochi Port connectivity etc. Your efforts will not go waste. All the Best. |

Thanks for all your appreciation guys..!! We(both myself & MK) thought that Madurai is not that bad in Industries, as it's actually quoted by many medias, and decided to go-around Madurai & its sub-urbs for taking snaps on Industries to prove it.We have a decent number of big Industries and quite good no. of medium & small-scale industries on par with major cities. We lack an industry of much highlights like BHEL for Trichy (or) Steel plant for Salem so far..Our TAMIN is taking its shape on the stretch b/w Melur and Tiruvathavur which will fulfill/satisfy us in this front..Anyhow, It will be too good if Govt. concentrates in bringing-up Graphite plant at Sivaganga too, that will boost the entire region. We could see a lot of land-parcels already bought by many outsiders & fenced with their boards for starting their industrial units here, especially in Ring-road b/w MIBT to Kappalur.Hope they, all take shape soon. LANXESS got shifted to Gujarat and We could find a new Logistics company called KERN at the same site.PRP Industries look too massive covering many hundreds of acres. We couldn't cover the Madurai-Vadipatti stretch which actually has good no. of Industries in recent times, especially an area called Nagari where we can find FENNER 2nd unit,TAFE Tractors,MITP along with many small & medium sized industries. Also We could not cover the Madurai - Alanganallur strecth which has decent no. of small & medium sized industries with a huge HATSUN Food processing unit. Bottom-line: Who told Madurai is a big village and have no Industries? - Please don't tell the same from atleast here-after. We have decent number of large Industries, in all sectors be it to be Automobiles, Rubber, Chemicals, Logistics, Metal Alloys, Textiles, Food processing etc. & many kinds of small & medium scale Industries excluding the ones in SIDCO Industrial parks around Madurai. We planned to cover the left items during our next visit, and have few plans to organise our threads in our forum, as many of our senior members feel uncomfortable with multiple threads. Madurai SSC-ians can express your opinions on how many threads we can have, each covering what topics etc. so that we can request our moderator/admin to do the needful. My opinion is to have more specific threads on key-areas so that It'll be an easy task to rewind it when needed. 1. Madurai-Infrastructure & Tourism (City Infra-Townships-Healthcare-IT/ITes-Educational institutions-Planning & Administration-Tourism-General discussions) 2. Madurai-City Transportation (Roadways & Railways) 3. Madurai-Retail,Entertainment & Hang-out (Malls,Multiplexes,Branded Retails,Hang-out places & Other entertainment places) 4. Madurai-History,Culture-Festivals & Gallery (Including testimonials) 5. Madurai-Industries & Developments (Manufacturing Industries & its SEZ's) 6. Madurai Airport (under Aviation & Airports) 7. Madurai Views (under Images & Gallery) 8. Meenakshi Amman Temple (under Heritage & Monuments) I am not stressing that We should have a seperate thread for each projects like Ring road, 4-laning of highways, Pearls township,IT Parks etc. but wish to have the appropriate discussions in appropriate threads rather than dumping all in a single thread. It will not be an easy task for any outsider if he wants to know some particular thing from a single thread.Instead if we have many specific threads on key areas like tourism, industries, history, retail etc.,their job will be made easy.Positives of having multiple threads: * More Specific * Easy to access & rewind for both us & outsiders * Motivation for new-comers to actively participate in the discussions. * Few people are much interested in selective discussions like our dhandapani sir in Madurai transportation updates, especially of City buses, new routes, new roads,ROB's etc/ Few only in retail news etc. * Not 100%, Specific threads like Madurai Industries will bring new Investments to the region but definitely it may be one among the 10 factors, atleast a starter(Induces the Investors to think of Madurai region after reading our forum, even if they don't have such idea actually at first..). * I am sure, Local medias are reading our forums. And It's not new, that still many reporters give false news including the statistics.Atleast Our discussions have a possibility to lead them in giving right reports. (Still I can read many tamil dailies giving false reports like Madurai airport is having 12500 ft runway etc.. I know few of them are following us here and in Social networking sites(FB) like Madam Ar.Meyyammai from Deccan chronicle, few from The Hindu etc.)It is our duty to fix them with our discussions, for which we need seperate threads on key-areas. Anyhow, It's all my lone opinion and I respect the feelings of other members too.. Opinions on organising Madurai threads are welcomed..!! My suggestion is to bookmark http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3128 for Madurai discussions and go back to Tamilnadu to see updates on Other cities..

Thanks MK for dedicating your time to post each and every snaps we took during our trip.. Let's plan more such trips in future for other sections like Tourist places - to highlight Unidentified places which need more attention (Thirumogur temple etc., Places where there are more chances to develop as tourist spot in Madurai like I told you during the trip (Thenkaal lake in TPK etc.) etc.
Let's plan our next trip soon..!!

MG,
I remember seeing the Du Pont plant on Madurai Melur Road. Also Sri Chakra Tyres (old name??) in Melur Road. Pandyan Chemicals (KClO3 plant), Kochadai area has Fenner, TVS Rubber, TVSTextiles etc. I have also been to a Pharma cluster near Madurai, where many small pharma formulation plants were there. There was also a scent factory. Tuti Road is fast developing. Many factories are coming up there. Pl visit the region when you are free. Kappalur SIDCO estate. Ramco Thulukkapatti Cement Plant near Virudhunagar. Bottling Plants on Dindigul Road. |

What is this huge white area in Melur - Thiruvathavur stretch ?
![]() Possibilities as per proposals: 1. CRPF 2. Indo-tibetian Battalion 3. Falcon tyres 4. Texmaco Tractors 5. TAMIN Granite polishing Industry 6. CIPET Institution Ruling out * Falcon tyres is no-more for Madurai. It got shifted to North/West India(Guess to Gujarat). * Just recently confirmed that TEXMACO have no plans for Madurai.Looks like It was a kind of fake promise to hike the real-estate scenario in these areas. * CIPET was promised at Idayapatti which is also in same stretch..Correct me If I am wrong. More Possibilities : * CRPF * ITBP * TAMIN Thanks to MK for digging out this picture from Google earth..!!

The Madurai Integrated Textile Park Ltd was commissioned by the Union ministry of Textiles in Thathampatti near Vadipatti of Madurai district in the Madurai to Dindigul National Highway and was one among the few Government commissioned textile parks of the country. It sprawls over a massive area of 106 acres and was inaugurated in Dec 2010 and below are the photos of it took from Madurai to Dindigul National Highway. I went inside it and took photographs of the roads in the campus and a board showing the occupants of plots inside it for their units and are following below.
