dear MK & MG
You people have done a great Job in covering many units which are located in and around madurai. I knew most of them since I am tracking what is happening in madurai for the past 30 years. While I greatly appreciate the effort you people had put in, I would like to bring to your notice the following. Since Madurai is a tier two city, we need to cover the industries etc which are located within a radius of say 25 to 30 Kms only and not beyond. We cant claim industries which are located 75 Kms away as industries in Madurai. I doubt labors go from madurai all the way to these place, work and return to madurai for sleep. In case of madras, what industries located in Sri Perumpudur or beyond may also be considered. But when we talk about madurai city, we shouldnt consider in the same way. Many of the units you have given are 60/70 Kms away and few are even 90 Kms away. For eg Madras Cements. The factory is some 70 kms away and their Head Office is at Madras. Rajapalayam Mills is 90+ Kms away. These are not really helping industrialisation of madurai. By this yardstick, we need to bring the total match box, cracker units located in Sivakasi and many textile mills located in Theni, Rajapalayam, Aruppukottai, Dindigul-karur road, industries located in pudukottai etc into madurai Industries. TN Govt cement factory TN cements is located near rajapalayam. We need to bring that also here. How can we do that? I think we may need to exclude 1 - Madras Cements 2 - Moser Baer solar unit 3 - Ayyanar Textiles 4 - Arasan Aluminium 5 - VTM Limited 6 - Rajapalayam Mills and 7 - Ramalinga Mills While the above units may be helping to some extend madurai indirectly, can we claim that these are industries in madurai. We all knew virudhunagar and Dindigul districts have many educational institutions inluding polytehnics, engineering colleges etc and in that case we need to say they should be included in madurai educational institute tag (as and when such thread is created). Is it correct? Any thoughts? Last edited by ANANTH; January 24th, 2012 at 08:28 AM. |

![]() Ananth, Whatever you have mentioned is correct. I was about to compose such a post, but you have done in more detail than I would have. . MK & MG, All your efforts are highly laudable. Great work!!. You guys have indeed made the Madurai thread very active. With regards to this thread, as Ananth has suggested we should cover industries in around 30 Kms radius from Madurai. Else this would become South TN Industries Thread and not Madurai Industries Thread. .we dont intend to hurt anyone or curb the enthusiasm, but just want to ensure that the focus of creating this thread does not get diluted. |

sorry mates, the thing is i scout for industries in kappalur in google maps and get distracted by industries nearby and end up somewhere farther as the above mentioned places, and i thought that posting the data won't do any harm because i know many people travelling in the madurai to shencottah passenger to go to their offices and also the industries use madurai airport and trains for the logisics, will stick to madurai circle hereafter, thanks

Dear MK
As Madhan pointed out, I am also saying the same. We dont want to hurt you or MG in anyway. U people have done great work. It is just that the thread should have industries from madurai or at the most from madurai district and not from other places, irrespective of whether we call it as madurai industries thread or madurai region thread I knew many people specially those who work in Banks, Offices go daily to sivakasi, virudhunagar etc by passenger train and return. They prefer to stay in madurai with family due to children education etc etc., But that no is minimum. Also becaue people use madurai airport for logistic reason doesnt mean that, that area should come under madurai. In that logic, most of the labors from KK dist use TVM airport and should we say TVM region should consider KK in it? Anyway once again hats off to MG & you for the efforts and I hope to see more and more posting from you. Last edited by ANANTH; January 24th, 2012 at 11:06 AM. |

Ananth & others,Even I was about to express the same when MK posted the Madras cements in thulukkapatti here.MK, You can delete the posts which are not relevant here. Leave alone Nilakottai, Manamadurai & Sivaganga region bcs the SIPCOT in Nilakottai is close to Madurai and any company making their base there will refer it as their Madurai unit. * Industries b/w Madurai and Arupukottai can be acceptable even if the exact site lies in APK or Virudhunagar districts. But the same b/w APK and Vilathikulam cannot be considered as Madurai region industries. The same rule applies to every directions. We can include Industries within 45 Kms radius from Madurai city.

When we say Madurai Region, it is not city alone.
Please cover Madurai, Virudhunagar & Theni / Periyakulam, Ramnad / Karaikudi districts also. Since there will be only a few industries there, it does not matter much. Madurai will be the Hub for all these districts. Cheers |

If the thread is "South TN industries" then it is a different issue. As I mentioned in one of my post, if we have to consider Mds cements and Rajapalayam Mills here then we can consider Ramaraju Surgical cotton - Rajapalayam + there are some more textile mils in Rajpalayam itself TN Jaya Bharat Textile Mills - Arupukottai Virudhunagar Textile Mills - Part of Thiagarajar mills group - Virdhunagar Janakiram Textile Mils - Theni Madura cements (Yassin Cement brand name) - Manamadurai Pandiyan Graphites - Manamadurai Many other textile mills, Industries and so on located in Erstwhile Madurai, Ramnad districts into this thread. If you notice most of them have their head office also in the same place where factory is located or at madras. Hardly any of the unit has Head Office at Madurai. For that matter even madurai base Madura Coats and Fenner doesnt have their HO at madurai. Last edited by ANANTH; January 24th, 2012 at 02:18 PM. |

Actually you said it.
Erstwhile Madurai & Ramnad districts is perfect. No South TN. We will have Thirunelveli, Tuticorin & Kanyakumari as a separate region. There may be some overlaps in MDU Tuti Corridor. It is okay. |

While searching for something about Madurai, i got into this DIC (District Industries Center) website - http://www.dicmdu.in/automobile.htm
Just wanted to highlight about vehicle body building industries in Madurai. As per DIC website, >> Body Building Units: There are more than 40 body building units in Madurai for automobiles. Madurai does have some well known body building industries like TVS, Vinayaka BBI, Linga BBI etc.., Though the numbers / size may be less comparable to similar industries in Karur/ Namakkal area, it is still worth an industry to mention in this thread. But 'am not sure where these Industries are located in Madurai....Pls elaborate if you know. |

@ MK - As you are posting the factory details in this thread in a specific nice format i would like to request you to consider this factory too in your next update.

Atlast you did that MK.. I was searching for their location from the first..Vaigai Industries are doing their good business here.Though their main thing is rice brian Oil refinery, they're concentrating on other type of agro-based industries too. They are one among the few from Madurai to set their foot abroad.. They recently opened their industry in Sri lanka and guess already planned for a similar one in Thailand. As Kannan sir, Madurai need not to be a HUB for any kind of Industries.. Because Madurai is proving its industrial worth in almost all the fields, take it to be : * Agro-based * Textiles * Auto-mobiles * Granite Industries * Rubber Industries * Chemical Industries * Healthcare products industries * Steel/Alloy Industries * IT/BPO Industry - Though no IT biggies except 2 units from Honeywell, We have many small scale IT companies and well-established BPO base. With the start of International flights from Madurai International airport, I hope IT/ITes and Logistics kind of industries will further be explored.
