Photo trip on 20.02.'12

Yesterday (20.02.'12), me and our somewhat silent forumer Shyamnath executed a photo tour (planned this last week well a week before) around the suburbs of Madurai according to the following map. I had already collected details of industries around Madurai and we planned the photo trip accordingly. We roamed about for around 315 KMs. We started at 9.30 a.m and went toward Melur first and followed the map as shown below.

We roamed for this distance and we planned for a meet with forumers Shreevathsan (ilikemadurai) and Sundar sir (sundar_amu) in Milan'em mall, KK Nagar. The meet photos could be found in Madurai region thread. I will be posting photographs of the industries of these stretches and updating old entries of the industries thread by adding new pictures as well.

Thanks to Shyamnath for a wonderful photo tour and the others for turning up for the meet .

Govt. is wasting the natural resources available in southern region...!!

Sivaganga - Graphite
Madurai - Granites
Tuticorin - Uranium
Vattakottai - Copper Ores in coastal areas
...

Why can't they develop all these as SEZ's and do something good for our region people and their regime...

Hats off to MK & Shrivathsan to give us a visual treat on Industries in & around Madurai...Expecting more from you..

Suguna Poultry - Pannikundu - Tirumangalam to Usilampatti SH

Suguna poultry has set up a environmentally controlled shed its first of its kind in 2008 in Pannikundu area in the stretch between Tirumangalam to Usilampatti branching from the Madurai to Kanniyakumari NH. The following is the data available from their own website.

Quote:
SUGUNA POULTRY INAUGURATES FIRST ENVIRONMENTALLY CONTROLLED SHED IN MADURAI

Madurai, 11th September 2008
India’s largest poultry company, Suguna Poultry Farm Ltd, today inaugurated its first Environment-Controlled (EC) commercial broiler sheds at Erumalampatti village, Pannikundu, Thirumangalam in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu.

Suguna’s Environmentally Controlled Shed
Suguna Poultry has inaugurated its state-of-the-art EC sheds in Madurai to grow its broiler chicken the same way it is done in developed countries. This is the first technologically advanced shed of its kind in India with a capacity of 32,000 chickens per shed, with the farm capacity of approximately 2 lakh chickens per batch. Annual capacity of the sheds is approximately 12 lakh birds.

How does the Environmentally Controlled system work?
The EC system works by fans creating low pressure in the shed and air being circulated to all areas within the shed through a system of multiple small vents (mini-vents) located in the shed walls. Cooling is further assisted by a high pressure system of spray nozzles that create a fine mist and lower temperatures through evaporative cooling. Since the spray nozzle cooling system operates at 1000 psi, the water is atomized to a fine vapour that that does not wet the floors in the sheds.

The whole system is automated through the advanced climate control system. Also apart from having a temperature and humidity control function the spray system can be used to introduce approved levels of disinfectant to counter disease or to assist-in the task of shed cleaning. Optimal temperatures and humidity levels are programmed into the system and it maintains the levels 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, the entire feeding systems and the watering systems are fully automated. The entire farm can be operated and controlled from a single computer-based system.
Advantages of Environmentally Controlled shed:

* Improved feed conversion ratio
* Better quality bird meat
* Increased productivity and health of the chicken
* Reduced mortality
* One extra batch (or cycle) per year per shed
* Fully system controlled with no manual controls
* Records can be stored and retrieved for 5 years

At the inauguration Mr B Soundrarajan, Managing Director said, “We have always strived to maintain world class standards in all our operations. And we believe technology can be tapped to make this possible. This EC shed is one such step in using technology for better productivity, hygiene and safety.”

Suguna plans to have more such EC sheds across India.

Auro Mira Bio Energy Madurai - T. Kallupatti - Madurai to Quilon NH

The Auro Mira Bio Energy Madurai ltd is a power production industry that produces 10 MW power from firing bio mass and exporting it to the grid. The following data are available from websites.

Quote:
The purpose of the project activity is to generate clean power by utilizing the biomass available in the region. The power generation from the project activity will displace the electricity drawn from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB). The project activity generates electricity by firing biomass as fuel and exports the same to the southern region grid. Because of this, the project activity would reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions. In the absence of project activity, equivalent amount of electricity would have been generated by fossil fuel based power plant connected to the grid.

M/s Auro Mira Bio Energy Madurai Limited (AMBEML)1 is in the process of implementing 10 MW biomass based power project at T-Kallupatti village, Madurai district in Tamil Nadu. The power plant comprises of one travelling grate boiler of capacity 46 TPH at 66 kg/cm2 a, 495oC and a condensing type turbo-generator.

Travelling grate boiler is proven for burning wide range of fibrous biomass fuels with acceptability for higher size fuel particles up to 25 mm. The turbine will be multi staged coupled to electric generator. The GHG emission due to the combustion of biomass residue is neutralized by the photosynthesis process carried out by plants, thereby making it a carbon neutral fuel. The power generated by the project activity is exported to TNEB grid. The proposed biomass mix consists of Juliflora, bagasse, groundnut shell and coconut fibre. As an emergency plan, coal and other biomass residues may be used and emission reduction would be calculated as per the applied baseline emission methodology. Diesel generator set of 500 kVA capacity is also planned as a back up for the project activity, to generate power during emergency situations. The corresponding project emissions due to the DG set are deducted to arrive at the net emission reductions by the project activity.

Chella software has applied again

http://sezindia.nic.in/writereaddata...March_2012.pdf

Looks like Chella software has submitted the lease document and hence they are likely to become the co-developer for the developer ELCOT to build their own center in Ilandhaikulam over a sprawl of 2.24 acres (0.91 hectares). The 13th March 2012 BoA meeting for SEZs approval is awaited.

Screenshot of the Chella part in the agenda from the above source :

Last time their application was turned down because they did not submit the lease documents. This time it looks like they have submitted it from the pdf.

So, hopefully, they may get approval to build and start operations.

Nice to see the effort taken by Madurakarenda to take pictures of various industries and commerical buildings.

I had a strange experience few years back when i was going around Madurai to take pictures for the SSC forum. When i was taking pictures of the Dhaya cyber park the security guy asked to stop and started to come towards me. Since i knew who was building it i got afraid and for a second thought of just speeding away in my bike. But i didnt do that, the guy took my cell phone and said come inside the Engineer wants to talk to you. I went in and they asked me few questions and i showed my ID card. They deleted all the pictures and told me you don't know who is building this IT park. They were concerned because at that time the project was getting some bad press in many newspapers.

Tractor major to invest Rs.160 crore in expansion

Quote:
In order to continue its harvest of bumper sales at a time when the industry is logging negative growth, city based tractor major Rs.8,021 crore turnover Tractor and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE) will set up a new 60,000 units per annum plant in Madurai, said a top official.

Chairman and CEO Mallika Srinivasan told reporters here Tuesday: "We will be investing a new plant with an annual capacity of 60,000 units in Madurai. All our plants are operating at full capacity and we expect demand for our products to outpace industry growth."

"Overall the company will be investing Rs.160 crore in expansion. The new plant in Madurai involves an outlay of Rs.100 crore. The company will also set up an agricultural implements plant at an outlay of Rs.30 crore. Another Rs.30 crore will be spent on carrying out value addition at our Turkish plant," R.C.Banka, president added.

According to him the company has a total capacity of around 180,000 units per annum (600 units per day) and fresh capacity at Madurai is needed to meet the projected increase in demand. Post expansion TAFE's total annual capacity will be 250,000 units.

Officials told IANS by production improvement measures the per day capacity will be increased to 700 units per day by the end of this year apart from the new Madurai plant.

Last fiscal TAFE world's third largest tractor manufacturer increased its capacity by some internal adjustments and sold 148,112 units (brands TAFE, Massey Fergusson (MF) and Eicher) including exports of 20,396 units.

She said the company ships out its tractors to 73 countries and its export revenue is around Rs.1,200 crore.

Looking back at the fiscal that went by, Srinivasan said: "The first half of the year the industry grew by around 19 percent and we grew at 26.9 percent. From November onwards industry showed downward trend while TAFE continued its growth rate."

"Nearly 68 percent of our sales come from products that had been launched during the last three years. We expanded Eicher range of tractors. It was known as small horse power (hp) player and now it has tractors up to 50 hp."

According to her, TAFE will be launching a new 55 hp model this month.

Srinivasan said she is cautiously optimistic about the tractor industry's fortunes, and added: "The short term outlook is caution while the medium-long term outlook is optimistic. As far as TAFE is concerned we are bullish about its prospects."

"Going ahead we will be into soil preparation, harvesting and post harvesting agricultural implements segment," she said.

Queried about harmonization of components between its three brand models - TAFE, Massey Ferguson (MF) and Eicher - to cut costs, Srinivasan said each model has its own USP and that cannot be compromised to achieve advantages of common components.

On the company's Turkish plant she said: "Last year we sold 4,000 units and this year we plan to double that number."

According to her, the company is also participating in development of Centurion family of tractors (50-125 hp) along with AGCO Corporation.

"We will make the tractors in India and ship them out during the second calendar quarter of 2013," she said.

Thanks for the update. Good to see the expansion plans of TAFE. While TNCCoI keeps talking about car industries, silently TAFE is expanding.

What happened to the plans of Videocon investing in manufacturing somewhere between Madurai and Manamadurai? Does anyone know anything about it?
