This tower will go U/C at the end of the month, but there's lots of prep work going on. So I opened a thread to show the current state.

Great addition for Nagoya! This one was originally supposed to be taller though right?

Yes, originally it would be 260m tall, then it was reduced to 220m in early 2010 before the latest reduction, or better finalization of the design to 211m at the start of this year.

Judging from the second render, it doesn't look as bad as I initially believed.

Yesterday the start of the construction was celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony.

Interestingly most of the articles still mention a height of 220m, could it be that the 211m is the roof height and the 220m the architectural height. Or did they got some old information?

And let's hope it's 220m.

I would love to see that midrise sticking next to the JR Tower to be nuked and replaced by nice greenery. It looks like a giant grey wall. What is that exactly? A building?

Biggest Train Stations by floor space:
Beijing West Railway Station 510,000m2
Nagoya Station 410,000m2(Actual)
+ Nagoya Station New Building 260,000m2
+ Mei Station 1-Chome Plan 179,950m2(I guess this is the floor space, pdf in Japanese, I know something, but kanji not yet)
So, Future Nagoya Station 849,950m2??
My question is if Mei Station 1-Chome Plan would be part of the station too? And I can´t find Osaka Station floor space, is the actual Osaka Station bigger (in floor space terms) than the Actual Nagoya Station??

Mei Station 1-Chome cannot be considered as part of the station since it's not developed by JR Central. It's the redevelopment of the former central post-office, developed by Japan Post.

Osaka station is 430,329.45m2, slightly bigger then the current Nagoya Station. But there are currently no big plans for Osaka station, they just completed a big project that added 210.000m2 to the station.

This map shows how the station for the Chuo Maglev will be located directly under this building. The Maglev tracks will run 30 meters deep trough the basement of the tower.

This means that the foundation work is not just for the tower, but also for the station. Making it a bit more complicated then the usual work for a 200m tall tower.

http://chixa.exblog.jp/

You could also say that this will make the tower a proper station tower and not just a tower that's part of the station complex.

I just came across this document about the project, especially the Chuo Maglev station that was published last month.

http://www.city.nagoya.jp/kankyo/cms...enkotodoke.pdf

And at first I didn't notice something really interesting until I saw height of the tower in the diagrams. It said 220m, the former height this project had. That means that the construction sign and the JR press releases all talked about the roof height of 211m and not the actual height. So this tower is going to be 220m's after all, that's good news.
