You need to be lifethreatingly sick before they send out this one, for less serious cases other type transport is provided. Also VW-buses but without the equipment.
Nice one!

I've always wondered: Is there any specific reason why Netherlands is using Chevrolet ambos? Never heard that any other EU country is using them (at least with that amount).

I don't know exactly why. But maybe Chevrolet offers a good price. For I remember the Dutch are using the Chevy's since the eighties. In the eighties the Chevy's where used nationwide. Currently especially Amsterdam, Rotterdam and 3 or 4 other cities are using Chevrolets as Ambulances. Also the traffic police of Amsterdam and Rotterdam are using Chevy vans.

Old Chevy's from the 80's.

Hmm, interesting. What about fuel consumption when compared to other popular ambulance vehicles (MB sprinter, VW transporter). I think that Chevys use way more fuel?

I just found on the internet why the Dutch chosed for Chevy's. Also the modern Chevy's have LPG. The Netherlands are one of the largest gas suppliers of Europe, because there a huge gas recourses under the ground. So the gas cost should be very low.

Here is an answer from a Amsterdam Ambulance-chief. A forum user asked why there were so many Chevrolets. I just translated quickly with google translate.

The answer of VZA: (Ambulance service Amsterdam)

The choice of vehicle brand and type is by services based on their own wishes, ideas and also emotion taken in my opinion. At my appointment in 1984 was the Chevy at both the GGD Amsterdam as a natural choice where motivations as safety VZA (especially at collisions) and Acceleration as main points were raised slightly on each occasion but also if there there was the purchase of other brands and type vehicles. By various takeovers of surrounding ambulance services we also have with some Mercedes Benz Sprinters, and a "low" Mercedes driven. These were generally not popular with the ambulance drivers. As I previously pointed out also the perception/emotion played according to me; a Chevrolet comes sturdy about it. We actually purchase private vehicles in which emotion is also an important component. Management has always found it important that sufficient support on the work floor consisted in the choice of the vehicle in the belief that this is the life of the material will benefit.

The last time creates within the Group ambulance drivers of increasing interest in other VZA and Management type vehicles. I got the idea that there is now a situation where employees really interested and with open to alternatives like look where the Chevy vizier no more obvious choice. This is from the point of view of exploitation for the Management a chance to take some more choice in here and therefore targeted the cost component may account in their decision. In short there is now within more looked at effectiveness, efficiency and VZA exploitation if only years ago was possible.

--------------------------
So the Chevy was more an emotional choice from the personnel.
