Kerala haj camp to begin on October 5

Quote:
MALAPPURAM: The camp for pilgrims being conducted by the state haj committee will begin at the haj house in Karipur on October 5. It will be inaugurated by Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal. The camp will have several facilities, including a 24x7 government clinic that will have allopathic and homeo doctors.

The special meeting of the haj committee held at the haj House on Monday has decided to inform each pilgrim the details of his/her flight schedule.

The pilgrims will have to reach the camp at least four hours before the departure of their flight, and they have been warned that they might miss their flight if they failed to report on time.

The inaugural haj flight will take off from Karipur at 10.30am on October 6. It will be flagged off by Union minister of state for external affairs E Ahamed.

Saudi Arabian Airlines is scheduled to operate 32 haj flights, each with 300 passengers, between Karipur and Jeddah. The pilgrims will, this year, take their return flight from Madina. As many as 9,000 people, including volunteers and government officials, will undertake the pilgrimage this year.

Minister for haj affairs P K Kunhalikkutty will inaugurate the Panakkad Muhammed Ali Shihab Thangal Memorial gate of the haj House on October 1. The haj cell will start functioning on the same day, and it will be monitored by Malappuram DSP (administration) U Abdulkareem.

Haj committee chairman Kottumala Bappu Musaliyar, district collector M C Mohandas and members of the committee attended the meeting. Bappu Musaliyar said the haj house would become active from Tuesday.

Dynamo Kyiv beat MSP Higher Secondary School 5-2 to win Subroto Cup final
Quote:

Striker Dmytro Zayikin scored four goals to propel a consistent Dynamo Kyiv from Ukraine to the Subroto Cup title with a 5-2 win over MSP Higher Secondary School from Malappuram, Kerala, in the final on Monday.

The losers punched above their weights but failed to threaten the Kiev-based Dynamo, who ended up with mind boggling 34 goals in seven matches and conceded only two, both in the final.

Rostyslav Taranukha scored the fifth goal while Muhammed Sabith scored a brace for MSP, which was playing its maiden Subroto final. Going into the final at the Ambedkar Stadium, everyone was wondering how many more goals Dynamo would score in the title clash, given their prolificacy.

The 3,000-odd crowd lent a festive touch to the setting and it seemed to unsettle the Dynamo players in the initial period of the match. Muhammed Safeer of MSP took a shot at the goal in the seventh minute but the ball sailed over the bar.

Dynamo found their stride and drew the first blood in the 10th minute through Zayikin. MSP conceded the second goal three minutes later and Zayikin made no mistake in scoring from close range. MSP then responded strongly and breached the Dynamo defence for the first time in the tournament.

Salman K's pass split the backline and found Sabith, who slotted it past the goalkeeper. The goal seemed to have a galvanising effect on the Dynamo players and they pumped in two more goals before halftime.

Zayikin completed his hat-trick in the 29th minute and Taranukha scored in the 25th minute to take the game away from MSP. In the second half, Zayikin scored his fourth goal to dash all hopes of a 'Liverpoolesque' comeback.

But the Kerala boys, cheered by a vociferous crowd, battled hard. They got their reward in the 54th minute when Sabith again found the net with a clinical finish. It was only a blip for the Ukrainian side that kept the sporadic MSP attacks at bay.

The spirit of MSP players was acknowledged by Dynamo coach Serhii Bezhenar, who said that it was the best opposition they had come up against in the tournament. "This team always looked keen to score and we were tested by them," Bezhenar said.

He said that his players were a bit overawed by the atmosphere and that was the reason why his players took time to settle down. "The players were initially overawed by the ambience.

But this was a great learning experience for our players," said Bezhenar, who last visited India in 1991 as part of the USSR junior team that played in the Nehru Cup.
