Nothing really went wrong, the rumoured September date was never officially announced by All Star themselves. But know they have officially said that January 2013 will be when they open.
The planning application for new shop fronts and the change of use to bowling alley only recently got approved too, so things are still on schedule really. All Stars will have a stall at the Food & Drink Festival though to get a sampler of the place. |

We haven't had a true timeline in a while now so here's what'll be happening in Manchester, chronologically, over the next year (until May 2013). We actually have at least 2 "events" or timeline entries per month from now way up until October 2014, so I guess that stands us in pretty good stead. Obviously months fill up as they get nearer and nearer, but July 2014 already looks to be a really exciting month because we're due to have Victoria refurbishment finished, 1SPS finished and the entire First St North complex completed - all in one month!!
Anyway, here's October 2012; - Saturday 27th October; Stalybridge railway station remodelling will culminate in a 'possession' (whatever that is) running from now until Sunday November 4th. - October 29th until November 2nd 2012; The Co-operative convention at Manchester Central. 10,000 delegates, £12.8million boost to the city. - The enabling works for Phase 2 at First St are due to begin. - The first few employees will begin moving into Co-op's new headquarters at One Angel Square. They will move in phases from now until March 2013. - The new name for the Library Theatre & Cornerhouse will be revealed (I think this may have already happened??) - Middlewood Locks - the third and last consultation will occur to discuss uses of the site as well as form and "quantum" will be discussed. Funding? God knows. - The last of the Network Rail staff based at Victoria are due to leave so major work can begin there. - Peel are set to release Port Salford's detailed documents. - The "engagement programme" re HS2 route to Manchester will happen to discuss local views and concerns. Hm. - Dog Bowl; new bowling alley on New Wakefield St, is due to open. - Revolucion de Cuba is set to open on Peter St in the former Squares bar - 100 new jobs. November 2012 - Fabrica office and hotel development in Ancoats will be complete with 21,000sqft of office space and a 150 bed Accor Hotel. - Albert Square Chop House will open in Memorial Hall, Albert Square. - Cloud 23, Beetham Tower on Deansgate. Bar will reopen after refurbishment. - Ryanair will start flying 2 flights a week to Gdansk, Poland and Riga, Latvia from Manchester. December 2012 - 9th December; First Group will take over the WCML. - The Tesco Superstore at Old Trafford will open (yay) - Metrolink is scheduled to open to Rochdale. - New December transport timetable will come into service; it'll include an extra hourly service from Stalybridge to Manchester Victoria and then beyond to Wigan and Southport. Also, morning services from Leeds will now call at Littleborough and Mills Hill and they'll be a new Victoria to Leeds evening service. - Plans to completely regenerate Trinity Square (the one outside the Avenue North) and create a 'uniform' public realm scheme from the Avenue North to the House of Fraser, Deansgate is due to get underway. - Work is set to start on St Peter's Square revamp. Cenotaph has to be in place by Remembrance Sunday 2013, so make of that what you will.... - The X Factor Final will be held at Manchester Central. - Printworks; new mezannine level and escalators as well as full scale interior and exterior refurbishment is set to be complete. - The Logistics Hub at Manchester Airport City is due to open - Victoria station; new roof and development works will begin. - Planning application for a 350 bed Holiday Inn Hotel is due to go in for the former employment exchange on Aytoun St. - Salford Crescent train station; the main redevelopment works here will start over the Christmas holidays. January 2013 - 4 star Melia Hotel at First St North will start construction - First St North cultural facility will start construction - Construction due to start on Motel One hotel at Piccadilly. 18 Month build. February 2013 - Rail electrification on the Liverpool Manchester line is due to reach Newton le Willows and the WCML. Could allow for immediate electric services directly to the West Coast - T68 Trams due to have dissappeared from the Metrolink network by now (end of phasing out) - I+ Spinningfields office block will begin construction on grassland opposite RBS Building at Spinningfields. - Coronation St and ITV will move operations to Salford Quays. - Construction is set to begin on the National Graphene Institute, Upper Brook St. March 2013 - Restaurant aiming for Michellin Star will open in Tower 12. Quote: "Restaurant and Lounge@Manchester House will be run by Aiden Byrne and Tim Bacon." Best of luck to them. - Cycling Hubs are due to be complete in Ashton, Rochdale and Sale. - The Halle orchestra will move into St Peter's Church in Ancoats. - Miller St Ring Road extension will be complete. April 2013 - The Control Tower at Manchester Airport is due for completion. - Construction might start on the 42 storey River St tower in Hulme (if it's still going ahead). - Regeneration of Trinity Square and new public realm from Avenue North up to House of Fraser on Deansgate is set for completion. - BID* to introduce more shoppers into Manchester City Centre by extending the retail core could start this month and run for 5 years. *BID=Business Improvement District - Restaurant Bar and Grill on John Dalton St; new 'skybar' is set for completion. - Primark Refurbishment is set for completion (Spring) May 2013 - Sea Life centre at Barton Square, Trafford Centre is due for completion. - Local TV channels are due to be broadcasting by now (Manchester will have one) - Work is set to start on Metrolink 2CC (just says "2013")

NOVEMBER & DECEMBER 2012
Time for an update.
Coming towards the end of 2012 now. 2013 promises to be an exciting year, I'm sure many of you have witnessed my crane and construction maps over the last few weeks which have shown that Manchester could have 20+ cranes on its skyline by summer next year. Exciting indeed. This month we've seen the approval of Simpson's 42 storey tower in Central Spine, hopefully we'll be seeing more on that next year. We've also had the introduction of a new 14 storey Hotel la Tour at Riverside, Salford this month. It's been a slow last few years in construction, and this sector has fallen dramatically in Manchester in the last year or so. So much so that you can now count with your fingers the number of construction projects ongoing in the city centre. It's a shame, but the next year looks optimistic with many construction projects already starting or being approved/funding secured. News that we're out of the recession is a good start, but as a country we're still bumping along the bottom and we have a lot of work to do to make sure growth continues. I'm very optimistic for Manchester. I truly think the transport infastructure projects and digital world city aspirations, coupled with our vast airport, are enough to propel us into the top league of European cities by the turn of the decade. We just have to ensure growth and investment continues. Luckily, we have a cohesive and unified city region structure which makes us shine compared with our UK competitors, as well as making us a viable option for investment ... and that'll be vital in future. Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Here's the remaining months of 2012; NOVEMBER 2012 Exact dates - 1st November - Lavazza Coffee will open in the Trafford Centre - 3rd-4th November - Metrolink Airport Line; the bridge at Sale Water Park will be craned into place over the M60. - 24th-25th November - Metrolink Airport Line; the bridge at Havely will be lifted into place over the M56. Non-Exact Dates - Ryanair will start flying 2 flights a week to Gdansk, Poland and Riga, Latvia. - Cloud 23 Bar in the Beetham Tower will reopen after refurbishment - The Albert Square Chop House will open in Memorial Hall, Albert Square. - Fabrica Office and Hotel development, Ancoats will be complete. 21,000sqft of office space and a 150 bed Accor Hotel. - Skii Club will launch in Spinningfields. - Local TV Station; preferred bidder will be announced. It's between Metro8TV, MCR8, YourTV and Made in Manchester - "Early November" - HS2 Route into Manc will be announced. DECEMBER 2012 Exact dates - 4th December - Opening date of East Manchester Metrolink line to Droylsden. Non-Exact Dates - Planning application for a 350 bed Holiday Inn will go in for the former Employment Exchange at Aytoun St. - Logistics Hub at Airport City is due to start construction. - X Factor Final will be held at Manchester Central CC - Printworks; new mezannine level and escalators as well as interior and exterior refurbishment is due to be complete. - Victoria station - old roof will start coming down in anticipation of refurbishment - Salford Crescent station - main refurbishment works will start over the Christmas holidays and throughout the 2013 bank holidays - Work is set to start on the redevelopment of St Peter's Square. - Plans to completely regenerate Trinity Square near Tower 12, Spinningfields and create a uniform public realm scheme from Avenue North to the House of Fraser on Deansgate will get underway. - They'll be an extra hourly service from Stalybridge to Victoria, and then beyond to Wigan and Southport. Morning services to Leeds will now call at Littleborough and Mills Hill and they'll also be adding a new Victoria to Leeds evening service - Tesco Superstore in Old Trafford will open.

Cannot image the new mezzanine level in the printworks being completed by December... No work seems to have been done on it at all...

Flange posted a few months ago that there have been big internal changes, just within the actual retail units themselves and so invisible to us really. Maybe they've been installing the foundations and what not and all it needs is for the mezannine to be craned into place (or whatever they call it in an indoor space) But they're also planning on doing the external redevelopment by December as well. That is, reshaping of the LED lights on the front, the installation of a new LED screen on the Withy Grove AND Dantzic Street side of the building, and the erection (lol) of those red advertising strips on the front of the building. We'll see what happens throughout December. It's only logical they'd want it finished by Christmas? |

JANUARY 2013
We've reached the end of 2012. Now lets look forward to 2013, January in particular. This is set to be a very exciting month (provided no setbacks occur), full of construction starts and new (interesting) openings. 2013 in itself is set to be a year of growth - particulary in Manchester's construction industry - and by the end of it I've predicted that we could see ~20 cranes on the city's skyline - which is pretty positive. Anyway, here's what's happening in January:-
Big/important projects are highlighted in bold January 2013 Exact date(s) - 16th - Salford CC planning meeting; a decision on 14 storey Hotel la Tour and Springfield Lane scheme/foodstore is due. Non-exact dates - "By the end of January"; TV liscense bid for Manchester Local TV is due to be submitted. - Eon Reality's 3D visuals centre will open at Central Park - Work will start on refurbishing a further 210,000sqft of office space at Soapworks - 3 "new" office blocks created. - Damson will open a restaurant at MediaCityUK - 4 star Meia Hotel at First St North starts construction - Testing on Metrolink's East Manchester Line to Ashton will commence - "Pao Pao Cafe do Brasil" will open in the former Kro2 unit next to Tesco on Oxford Road - First St North cultural facility starts construction - Construction starts on 14 storey MotelOne hotel at Piccadilly - A school training students in the digital and tech industry is due to open (not sure where, I assume MediaCity?) - All Star Lanes will open in the Great Northern

Thanks as ever for taking the time to do this - much appreciated.
I think you will find, in the process of doing this, what the phrase 'optimism bias' means. Still there are one or two interesting things to get our teeth in to this year. |

Still needs planning permission to be granted, was showing a committee date for a while, but it looks to have had additional consultation in the last few weeks.
Vita is already showing as pending decision. |
