Sometimes when I look at pictures of Amsterdam, I can't help but wonder if it's got more bicycles than people.

I've come across a very informative study on the subject, titled 'Cycling to Sustainability in Amsterdam'.*

Here's an interesting extract from it:

600,000 bikes in Amsterdam in 2006, about 0.75 bikes per inhabitant
(City of Amsterdam, 2007). Amsterdam’s topography and
