my dad's from there i've been there before: so alive, surprisingly spacious n clean, and extremely friendly. its one of Africa's urban success stories in its infrastructure and growing economy and investement. it has ALOT of potential, and is quite impressive for an African city metro of only 1.5 million people but, atm, to be honest i must say the skyline's ermm.. DEAD (lol) but i'd love see a pic of the skyline in 10-15 yrs time.

The national theatre looks nice ..

But nothing much around the city. 4/10

This is a great city that will have a great skyline in the future. My family comes from ghana. It is a peaceful and vibrant city at night with virtually no crime at all 5/10 to the skyline at present though.

some other architecture and pics around the city:

(independance arch - like a little arc de triomphe!!)

(elmina castle near accra)

(overhead shot)

(accra temple)

(government building)

(independance square)

(university)

and of course my favourite...

(national theatre)

I'll have to agree with Lumpia that the Downtown is somewhat lacking, but as Ghana is quite a stable country, the future looks bright. Also, any country that takes as much pride in its National Theatre building has got to have its priorities in the right direction!!

No vote now...I'll hold off a few years.

Actually, i remember seeing loads of cranes the last time i was in Accra (2002), so i'm sure the skylines growing as i type. I've heard that Kotoka International Airport (thats the Airport in Accra) has now been expanded and the new buildings added are glass n steel beauties I'd love to see pics of either the plans or how the new Kotoka looks

Hopefully they will build the new airport, but it looks like they expect it to cost only $76 million dollars. I think a new modern airport will cost quite a bit more than that.

Wow! Thanks alot for the link.. i like what i'm seeing! it keeps a distinct Ghanaian flavour while still being ultra-modern, the roof is in the shape of the Golden Stool, and they've even made the shade at the departure entrance in a kente design! It still seems abit too southern-focused tho.. They couldve put in a few more influences from the north in the design as well to balance it out, for instance, the Larabanga mosque in the north is one of the oldest mosques in Africa, and one of Ghana's most beautiful traditional buildings..

But, its great! A better international airport means better international investment
