Discount retailer branches out to Arbil
ISTANBUL - Anatolia News Agency Local discount retailer Kaliteli İndirim Marketleri (KİM) is planning to open two stores in northern Iraq, the semi-autonomous Kurdish region, in its first investment abroad, according to a top executive. “We have met all the necessary official requirements and inked deals in January. We will inaugurate two supermarkets in Arbil in May,” said Hamit Akçay, general manager of KİM, adding that another supermarket will be opened in Iraq this year. The discount retailer plans to open stores in other Iraqi cities including Suleymaniyah, Basra, Mosul and Baghdad, according to Akçay. In the long term 10 stores will be opened per year in Turkey’s southern neighbor and the turnover target for 2012 in Iraq is $25 million, he said. “The first of the stores will be inside a shopping center called Royal Mall, located on one of the most busy avenues. We will open a 2,500 square meter of a supermarket in the shopping center. Our second store will be across Arbil Fortress, which is the historical centre of the city.” January/17/2012 source: http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com |

If you can potentially attract many customers from the location due too the surrounding shopping environment then it's worth it. You must take into account close coffee shops as they'll be your competitors, if this is the case, then it's probably not worth it, since it'll be difficult to compete with an existing business in close proximity to your new business. There are many factors to consider if you wan't to value how worthy the rent price is.. I worked in a similar location in one of London's biggest malls, selling ceramics (it wasn't easy) |

Thanks alot Euphrates. Rent is becoming a real problem in Erbil - residential and commercial. I lived in the US for 15 years, for that price, you can open with a bigger space right in the heart of New York!
Royal Mall looks promising, but what worries me is down the street (About 1 mile down) they're building a much bigger and alot better looking mall (Mega Mall) that I think will be the next big hit here in Erbil. |

Yes, Megamall is almost complete anyway : http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1094913 You should ask for the rent price before the opening of Megamall, speak to contractors, maybe it's slightly cheaper than the asking price of Royal mall, also look at the space they're offering. (The rent price is probably very similar) Find out the rent price, compare and evaluate with Royal Mall. It's your pick. Last edited by Euphrates; February 4th, 2012 at 11:46 AM. |

Very nice mall I like it..
And $2,000 is too much in my opinion, not worth it. |
