I pass it most days, and could contribute pics. It certainly looked ready for action when I went by there on Sunday. It was after dark mind.

Here is the new Project Thread for the "Portland Green Student Accommodation & Office Development".

Portland Green Development - Shieldfield

Was passing this site 09/03/12 AM so took the following photographs (hosted on Photobucket) - perimeter trees make it difficult to picture site from north and east sides and once covered in leaf will be impossible but there are a few viewing windows in the boarded fence to the west levation

Piling work in progress to block nearest to Stoddart Street

Site clearance work being undertaken by Thompsons of Prudhoe to area east of Portland Road/ west of City Stadium - using some of their bigger "Tonka Trucks"

Metnor starts work on student accommodation project
by Ruth Lognonne, The Journal, June 25th 2012

PROPERTY Developer and builder Metnor has started work on a £120m student accommodation project in Newcastle. The Newcastle firm has entered into a joint venture with London-based Templewood Merchant Bank to develop a major new student accommodation village in Portland Road.

It will be one of the largest student developments in Europe and the £120m scheme will create a new student village of over 2,000 beds with associated retail and leisure facilities.

The project addresses the shortage of student residences in the city and will service both Newcastle and Northumbria universities as it is within walking distance of the two. The first phase of 275 rooms is currently under construction and will be available by July next year.

The following four phases are scheduled for development over the next three to four years. Chief executive Stephen Rankin said: “Things are pretty good for us at the moment and we’ve been pretty solid through the recession because by working in the student and care residential sectors we’re in the right area.”

Whoa! The renders on that billboard aren't the same as the original renders for this development are they?

Just sad for us that they've developed the worst of the new buildings first!
