Well, Kazan is a rich city, with a very developed industrial sector, and powerfull banks. Also they have the biggest IT Park in Russia, and one of the biggest in Europe. If I remeber corectly, Tatarstan (the region of which Kazan is the capital) is the richest in Russia outside Moscow. Therfore, probably they have way more many to invest in infrastructure then other cities, even without the help of central goverment.

Im not against this new line but i just feel sorry for other cities in Russia without even one metro line. If the city official sad that line is necessary then there is no doubt in that.

well I feel to say some on this. I follow the russian Metro development now for 40 years. if one city apart of Moscow have the power and willing to build fast it is Kazan. the first line was developed in just 7 years as in former SU time! Most construction power must now come from Regional governments - not from State funding! the law says it must pay 50 % for such projets, but this will not come! - about 10-15 % only from the ministry. so "smaler" towns with not so much power takes much more time to develop as Omsk, Novosibirsk etc.

I see the realisation of the first section within 5 years.

Many others cities are just don't really needed it, but opted to build it because of state funding, dedicated excusably to metro.

The age of cars has removed at least a 1/4 of all public transportation passengers off the stations and stops.

Some cites, however, like Moscow or St. Petersburg, need the metro as St. Petersburg has about 2,5 million passengers per day on it and Moscow between 6,0 and 7,5 million on it.

Smaller cities just need it for minor loads in many cases, excluding Nizhniy Novogrod, Yekaterinburg, and Kazan. These cities actually see the number of passengers increasing. Novosibirsk has a fair amount of passengers.

Samara, however, is just a waste of money as it's ridership is low and it's effectivity is none.
