More great architects and artists participating in the process of rebuilding the city:
- Marian Osinski
- Jan Borowski
- Witold Minkiewicz
- Lech Kadlubowski
- Jozefa Wnukowa
- Ryszard Massalski
- Tadeusz Czeslaw Polak
- Boleslaw Roginski
- Jerzy Stankiewicz
- Kazimierz Macur
And many, many, many more. They should not be forgotten...

I have a great deal of reverence for these unsung heroes who toiled in ruins, lived in urban caves for years to rebuild this nation and to those who toil now to put this country on its feat. A museum should be built with pics like the ones you posted and maybe interviews with these people to honour this work. Or at least a monument.

thanks rychlik.someone should really track down these people and interview them before they are all gone to get their first-hand account of what it was like to build in such conditions.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, but during WW2 over 90% of Gdansk historical center was destroyed. I think that museum dedicated to the people who were and are rebuilding this lovely city would be a good idea. Let's remember that reconstruction process didn't end and there's still a lot to be done (only around 500 out of 5500 historic buildings have been reconstructed so far and many interiors and facades are actually very purely decorated). The historic center within the 16-17th century fortifications has an area of 589 hectares (almost 6 km2) and only small part of it looks nice. I'm strongly opposed to the modernism and I really hope that few more buildings will be rebuilt to the pre-1793 appearance.

As I said before, I'd rather live in one of these spacious houses...

Than in a small flat built recently...

Thank you for your nice comments, but I have to sadly admit that I didn't even scratch the surface. Btw, I've found another brilliant source of post-war photos of Gdansk (not only)...
