The Census is out. Canada is just under 35,million now.

Interesting to note that Saskatoon grew by more people than Kitchener. I'm a bit confused as to why they have Halifax's city population the same as its CMA population. The City of Halifax is usually listed at about 120,000.

Halifax's city population is its CMA population. HRM is so big that no other municipalities qualify to join its CMA. Old City of Halifax isn't a statistical area anymore.

I worked on this part-time in the summer. Nice to see it out.

Saskatchewan has really turned it around; really great to see that. It looks like all the provinces posted bigger gains except for Ontario, which still took in the most people overall.

Only 3 provinces grew faster than Ontario: BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. It's good for Canada to have other provinces growing the fastest. It's basically been all Ontario for the last 140 years. Maybe the rest of Canada beyond Ontario should get the growth for the next 140; Ontario already has 38% of the population. I'd prefer if that were down to 20-25%.

Well, if you live to 250 years of age you might see it happen! Don't get your hopes too high, however, as we know historically there are swings and shifts in the population and it doesn't always just continue going exponentially in the direction of the past five years. You will also have to place an enormous hope and faith in the heavily polluting industries of the tar sands, as traditional oil reserve supplies in Alberta begin to run out by 2030. But, there is always hope!

Less then 100,000 until the City of Toronto surpasses Chicago. It should only take about 3 years at most to take it's 4th place title away.

What growth? Chicago proper is declining in population. Also, my last figure was wrong. That was Chicago's population in 2000. They are now at 2,695,598. So Chicago has lost about 200,000 people in 10 years while Toronto has gained about 100,000 in five years. In other words, Toronto is gaining roughly the same amount of people that Chicago is losing. Toronto should become the fourth largest city in North America within the next two years.

I was referring to city proper populations. I don't like comparing CMA's. The Chicago CMA covers a ridiculous amount of area. If Toronto covered the same we would include the entire Golden Horseshoe, Oshawa, and possibly all the way out to London as well.

Chicago City area - 630 km2
Toronto City area - 606 km2

Chicago CMA area - 28,160 km2
Toronto CMA area- 7,125 km2

Actually it was only 2,695,598. That 2,884,382 is an incorrect number over on SSP's data base.

Yeah, I corrected it in my last post. It's surprising to see how much that number has declined. 200,000 less people in 10 years? I thought the exodus to the suburbs was over.
