Great pics Van! The guy from Ozamiz does it again! That's the VOR\DME station you have there. Looks like the runway just got a coat of asphalt and new markings. Also realized this airport have airfield lighting....if it works.

As far as I know VOR - is a radio navigation system that transmits signals from the ground to an aircraft to enable the pilot to determine their location. Pag tinatrack mo ang specific radial from the VOR, it will give you a specific "waypoint" from your point of origin to your destination etc. Para di mawala ang piloto

DME- gives you a slant distance from where you are in relation to the DME equipment, (the one located at the top of the VOR)

Plans for upgrading of Roxas City airport on

by Jemin B. Guillermo

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, March 9 - Plans for the approval of the improvement of the Roxas City airport are currently being finalized.

Transportation and Communication Secretary Mar Roxas revealed that one of the improvements that will be initiated in the airport is the installation of night-rated facility to accommodate aircrafts even during night time.

Roxas, who was with General Manager Jose Angel Honrado of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, during the installation of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas new office here, said that they are now considering the putting up of night-rated facility in order to decongest the traffic in the runway in Manila airports, particularly at the NAIA terminals.

He stressed that so far, the country has 86 airports, 44 of which have commercial flights and 21 of these airports, including Roxas City, experience passenger traffic.

With the Roxas City airport to be equipped with facility and technology such as runway lights to operate even at night time, more will be coming to Capiz, he said.

Roxas said that he had earlier sent a team here to inspect, evaluate and present recommendations in line with the needs of at the airport terminal here.

As recommended, he said, they are now undergoing a program of work for the modernization of the terminal building of Roxas City airport.

Roxas revealed that the airport in Roxas City is one of the most well-equipped in navigation technology and one with the longest runways in the country.

Nice development. Seaports and Airports are vital on Roxas' economy being the gateway to that part of the Visayas. Nearby islands jump off point is Roxas, LGU should update it's masterplan now to more than ever.

Despite Roxas Airport is surrounded by 3 International Airports(Kalibo International Airport, Iloilo International Airport and Boracay Airport), we are still experiencing passenger traffic!
