But the approach maneuver for RXS is hard core if the winds are coming from the north. Just experienced a "fighter jet" circle to land approach earlier. Landing at RWY 32.

Nice presentation of the video Habagat. It was a textbook landing I thought, not hot and high or else it will end up at the threshold and a little short at the edge of the concrete and not going beyond it - "Kalibo style". The tarmac is begging for a good dose of high pressure wash and that white fence has to go to give it a more healthy landscape as the dirt stain is not a very welcome sight as you deplane. Are the passengers crowding around the baggage carousel or this is another case of free for all as the ground crew lays down the baggages to the counter from the cart, - "Ozamiz or Pagadian style". It does help to calm your nerves hearing the two folks singing in provincial dialect but I'm intrigue with the tag they are wearing, - I suppose authorized by CAAP only. One more thing, while the country is abound with capital cities with their own fishports, why does Roxas have the bragging rights of being the "Seafood Capital of the Philippines"?. Enjoyed the video and the pics, thanks!

Thanks! I guess the Capiznon folks may answer you better regarding the claim as to being "Seafood Capital." All I know is that most of the oysters, shrimps, shells, etc are being exported out of here.

I did said that t'was hot and high at that time since I saw the PAPI lights were still all in yellow, instead of 2 PAPI lights on red and other on yellow. But we felt the dip when the plane was aligning itself at the airport.

The ID was CAAP-authorized issued, if we look closely.

Baggage carousel is working, although the baggage claim space was built for turboprop era days.

He meant the AirPhil overshooting incident at Kalibo recently.

You were at the base leg when you saw those PAPI at four white bars( yes, the aircraft is still at higher altitude). Only the pilots will see if they are on glideslope as they align for final approach, That dip is probably when they trimmed the ailerons and adjust speed for landing. Sorry I have to refer to Kalibo as that was a classic controlled braking by the APX pilot to allow the gears to roll over smoothly from concrete to grass and gravel. I see Roxas is actually a good source of aquamarine products. Good to know.

Hi there litigs...regarding the bragging rights of Roxas as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines, well, it is based on the amount of exported products by the province. Though the Philippines is an archipelago and most cities have their own fishing ports, Roxas City outshines them all in terms of aqua marine products. Thus, the government rendered such title to the city and the province as a whole. Aside from that, Roxas City is also known as the Cutfoliage Capital of the Philippines, Garden Center of Panay, Venice of the Visayas and the hall of fame recipient of the Cleanest and Greenest component city in Western Visayas award. You can inquire more about this with the city or provincial tourism office in Roxas or at the DOT Regional Office in Iloilo City.

If I may interrupt. The claim of Roxas City or the province as Seafood Capital in particular is FLAWED. That is a fact of fiction promoted by DOT.

General Santos alone has 10 times more export earnings from tuna than the whole panay island output combined.

The biggest of them all is also found in Mindanao. The place is called Zamboanga. If you happen to find a sardine can, care free to look where it is canned. The same can you find here in the Philippines is the same can you find in japan, Singapore, hong kong, the united states, middle east and europe. Fish output there are transported by shiploads to different part of the world.

And why are they there? Because Celebes and Sulu have abundant supply of marine products.

If you are in Iloilo, Kalibo, Roxas or Caticlan, ask your local fish dealer where he gets his SEAFOOD from and they will tell you the answer. If you are in Iloilo, watch the roro boat from bacolod and tell me what vehicle you always find other than cars and buses. FISH CARS. And they are coming from one place, Zamboanga.

FYI. Now back to regular programming.

I guess you're making it too obvious as to why I raised that question cause I came from the South in one of those provinces you mentioned facing Celebes sea and I have relatives in Bacolod and Ilo-ilo coming to our place to savour the fresh catch. Needless to say, we are not bent on stirring the hornets nest here, just so happened that the banner headlined one of the post. I shouldn't have asked.

lol it depends on your perspectives..but you are somewhat right putting DOT on the stand. So when you go in Gensan, do tourists go there primarily to eat seafoods?

Of course many can claim to be the Seafood Capital of the country on the context of annual catch. you might be today but not in the years to come.

On that note, define what context is a Seafood capital can be claimed?

and if we go on topic here..do you have figures of marine products passing thru Gensan Airport? Do any of us here have the figures for Roxas?

I mean cmon guys..If some city here in the region claims to be the football capital..so whats the basis of the claim? Did DOT promoted them too?

BTT

Its in the Philippine Yearbook bro. Grab a copy of it.

By the way, its the very reason why PAL fly the 330, the 340 or the 747 to Gensan.

Seafood is a mouth-watering discussion so to complement that, how about a round of alcohol to go?, nope were not talking about drinking with "pulutan" but rather the "Tanduay" sheds in all airport parking areas. Did CAAP enter a contract with Lucio Tan's conglomerate?, this sheds seem to be everywhere now, Roxas included.
