Bhubaneswar (BBI) | Biju Patnaik Airport

The on-going developmental work at the Biju Patnaik airport in Bhubaneswar, which aims to upgrade the airport as an International airport, is likely to be completed by June, 2012. The project of new terminal is delayed by an year. It will become operational by August,2012. Developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) as part of the upgrade of 35 non-metro airports across the country, the new terminal, with its futuristic design, will have trusses making arches for the main lounge of the terminal building. The expansion work, being implemented by the Airport Authority of India (AAI), envisages construction of new International terminal building complex with all modern amenities, which includes 3 aerobridges at a cost of Rs 150 crore.The new International terminal building will be of 18000 sq m. The entire structure will be according to green building concept.The energy efficiency monitoring of the new terminal will be computer controlled. There will be four lifts and escalators to help passengers of all age groups. The new terminal will also have digitally controlled public address and car calling system and an additional space to park another 10 luxury coach buses and 400 taxis.A source, hopeful that the March deadline would be met by the construction wing of the AAI, said The Rs 150 crore-project will have space for all the stakeholders. For example, Air India and the Central Industrial Security Force will be allotted space that will be used according to their requirement, but within the guidelines of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security of India. The new terminal will provide facility to the domestic flights while the existing one may be used as an international flights. On completion of these works, the final capacity of the Bhubaneswar airport would be 1000 domestic passengers and 384 international passengers during peak hours as per IMG norms, says Former Union minister of state for civil aviation, Praful Patel. Great pics Sourav. Is their any schematic map or some kind of master-plan available for the new BBSR terminal? Looks like they are going with the tried and tested design.
