DAVAO | Ports and Shipping

The Port of Davao, Davao, Philippines, is located on the island of Mindanao. The Port of Davao consists of a number of ports, all within the Davao Gulf which is part of the Celebes Sea. SASA Wharf is one of the largest of piers in the Port area and busiest, the SASA Wharf is owned by the International Container Terminal Services Inc., which also operates at the Port of Manila and Port of Subic. The Port of Davao is largely dominated by Container Cargo, Raw Materials, Bulk Cargo, General Cargo and Passenger traffic.

"Davao Port", or the "Port of Davao" is one of the Philippines major seaports alongside Manila, Subic, Cebu and others. The Port of Davao, often called Port District of Davao, includes Davao City and the three provinces. Davao port services interisland and international shipments. The city is situated 974 kilometers south of Manila, on the shore of Davao Gulf. "Davao" also refers to three provinces: Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental. Davao City is located in Davao del Sur but is politically and administratively independent of the province. The access to the port of entry in Davao City is through Davao Gulf which has two approaches. One is at Pakiputan Strait between Davao and the water west of Samal Island. The other approach is at the east side of Samal Island mainly used as an exit channel of vessels departing from points north of Davao Gulf. Access to the subport of entry in Mati, Davao Oriental is through Pujada Bay. The Davao Gulf is situated on the south coast of Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippines. A number of Passenger ship-lines operate to Davao, including WG&A Superferry.

DAVAO CITY— On March 30, this city is set to welcome the first cruise ship to dock on its port, carrying 371 French nationals to visit.
Travel agency owner Wanda Teo announced in the weekly Club 888 press briefing the coming of NDS Voyages Princess Danae ship out of France after it docks at Papua New Guinea.
“In the past years, cruise ships only docked in Manila and Cebu. It took me some time to convince this group to try and take a look of Davao,” said Teo.
As soon as they arrive, French nationals will be taken to visit selected tourist destinations in the city.
The Department of Tourism also allotted a budget to show them around.
The visitors will be brought to Davao’s newest and largest park, the People’s Park; will be given a personal encounter with the eagles at the Philippine Eagle and will also be brought to SUL Orchids, given that the French love orchids.
Other areas where the visitors are set to visit are Davao’s shopping havens like Aldevinco where they can buy authentic Davao goods, and the newest mall in the city, Abreeza.
“This would be the start of more cruise ships including Davao in their destinations. We also expect good sum of revenues we can get through this visit,” she added.
Princess Danae passengers are given an entire day to tour around the city. They will also go to Cebu and Manila as part of the regular stop-overs.
Teo urged Dabawenyos to use this opportunity to show hospitality to the visitors as this could be the start for the coming in of more tourists to Davao.

http://http://www.pfda.da.gov.ph/dfpc.htm FISH PORT COMPLEX

Davao Fish Port Complex

The Davao Fish Port Complex (DFPC) is the seventh commercial fish port to be operated and managed by the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA). It is, however, the second major fishing port established in Mindanao Area. This 4.5 hectare complex serves as a center for the collection, processing, storage and packaging of fishery and marine products for distribution to Davao City's area of influence and to the export market.

The DFPC has become a major transshipment point and center of trade within the East ASEAN Growth Area (EAGA). The modernization of commercial fishery coupled with the required infrastructure is the country's commitment to EAGA.

Location

Situated in Daliao, Toril District, the DFPC is about 16 kilometers from the center of Davao City. It is located 125 degrees 35 degrees North latitude and 7 degrees N 10 degrees East longitude.

Davao Fish Port Complex

Services and Port Operations

In May 1995, local commercial fishing vessel started unloading their catch and conduct fish trading activities in this traditional landing site. Regular market hours are from 5:00 to 8:00 in the morning.

The breakthrough in foreign transshipment operations took place on July 12, 1995 when a Taiwanese fishing vessel unloaded, processed and packed its fish cargo at DFPC and eventually exported it to market abroad. These foreign fishing vessels are serviced by transshipment agents occupying bays at the market hall.

A One-Stop-Action-Center (OSAC) was established inside DFPC to facilitate processing of documents for fishery products that are to be exported and for the entry and dispatch of foreign fishing vessels.

Processing of marine products such as prawn, tuna, octopus, and cuttlefish are undertaken at the refrigeration building in addition to 24 hours ice production.
